The Space


Possession of a San Francisco Short-Term Rental Registration Certificate certifies that the registration certificate holder has agreed to comply with the terms of the San Francisco Short-Term Residential Rental Ordinance (San Francisco Administrative Code Section 41A). This ordinance does not require an inspection of the unit by the City for potential Building, Housing, Fire, or other Code violations.

Your fully furnished master bedroom suite is located in an elegant Castro home built around 1930. The light and airy 13' x 15' suite features a queen-sized bed with a heated mattress pad, two armoires, a chest of drawers, two nightstands for storage, a wing chair for reading, a desk and comfortable chair for writing or web-surfing, a stereo, TV with Roku/Netflix/HuluPlus, wireless internet, full private bath with hairdryer, and walk-in closet with iron and ironing board. I provide luxurious bed and bath linens and terry cloth robes for your use. Because your room is in the back corner of the house, with windows on two sides looking out onto a lovely tree-lined residential street, it is very quiet and private.

You may enjoy strolling along the many small neighborhood streets nearby, featuring quaint houses and beautiful views of the surrounding hills and the skyscrapers of the Financial District visible in the distance. Your bedroom is stocked with many Bay Area guidebooks to inform you about the plentiful local attractions and restaurants. A cell phone with unlimited voice calls and texts is available for your free use during your stay, if needed.

You are welcome to use the public areas of the home, including the living room with fireplace and baby grand piano, formal dining room, and well-appointed kitchen (fully stocked with all sorts of appliances, espresso maker, pots and pans, cooking utensils and dozens of interesting cookbooks). Washer and dryer are available for use by advance arrangement.

Should you be traveling with an infant or small child, I have a Graco "Pack 'n Play" portable playpen/bassinet with a 3" foam mattress that you are welcome to use during your stay.

Street parking is generally available, but you are welcome to park in a space in front of the garage by advance arrangement (except during the once-a-week 2-hour street cleaning window).

The heart of the Castro district (with the Castro MUNI Metro Station to downtown and the rest of the city) is a pleasant 10-minute downhill walk away, and the 33-Stanyan bus (stop less than 100 yards down the street) will whisk you to the restaurants and bars of the Castro, lovely Dolores Park, the hip hangouts, restaurants and galleries of the Mission, the 16th Street/Mission BART station, and Golden Gate Park. The historic F-Market streetcar will take you on a leisurely journey from the Castro to downtown, the recently renovated shops, markets, and eateries of the Ferry Building at the foot of Market Street, and on around the Embarcadero to Fisherman's Wharf and Ghirardelli Square.

My home is an easy one-transfer BART($8)/MUNI($2) ride from San Francisco and Oakland International Airports.

P.S. San Francisco has determined that Airbnb hosts should collect the city tax charged on hotel stays. I believe in the value of the hotel tax -- its revenues provide much-needed support to arts organizations throughout our city. As of October 1, 2014, Airbnb is collecting the hotel tax directly at the time of booking -- you should see a separate line item for the 14% tax when you confirm a reservation. I have reduced my rates for new reservations as of October 1, to account for the fact that Airbnb, not I, will be collecting and paying the hotel tax.

House Rules

I ask that guests refrain from smoking tobacco in the house, but you are welcome to smoke on the front porch.

I love animals, and will consider hosting your friendly, well-trained pets as well, on the condition that you keep track of them, make sure they do no property damage, clean up any accidents right away, and allow them to roam the house. Please contact me to make special arrangements if you plan to travel with pets. I generally will charge a $200 security deposit to guests who bring their pets, and will refund the deposit at the conclusion of your stay. I hate to add this wrinkle, but must do so as a result of recent guests who promised to clean up after their 4-month-old puppy, yet departed suddenly on their last night, leaving both odorous and tactile "gifts" from their puppy.

Please treat my kitchen as your own, and make sure to put any used dishes, flatware, glassware, pots and pans, etc., in the dishwasher.

I ask that conversations, media-watching, etc. be relatively quiet and subdued between 11:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m.
