Posh Castro Suite w/ Private Bath

House - Private room · Caselli Avenue, San Francisco, CA 94114, United States

The Space

Your fully furnished master bedroom suite is located in an elegant Castro home built around 1930. The light and airy 13' x 15' suite features a queen-sized bed with a heated mattress pad, two armoires, a chest of drawers, two nightstands for storage, a wing chair for reading, a desk and comfortable chair for writing or web-surfing, a stereo, TV with Roku/Netflix/HuluPlus, wireless internet, full private bath with hairdryer, and walk-in closet with iron and ironing board. I provide luxurious bed and bath linens and terry cloth robes for your use. Because your room is in the back corner of the house, with windows on two sides looking out onto a lovely tree-lined residential street, it is very quiet and private.

You may enjoy strolling along the many small neighborhood streets nearby, featuring quaint houses and beautiful views of the surrounding hills and the skyscrapers of the Financial District visible in the distance. Your bedroom is stocked with many Bay Area guidebooks to inform you about the plentiful local attractions and restaurants.

You are welcome to use the public areas of the home, including the living room with fireplace and baby grand piano, TV/media room, formal dining room, and well-appointed kitchen (fully stocked with all sorts of appliances, pots and pans, cooking utensils and dozens of interesting cookbooks). Washer and dryer are available for use by advance arrangement.

Street parking is generally available, but you are welcome to park in a space in front of the garage by advance arrangement (except during the once-a-week 2-hour street cleaning window).

The heart of the Castro district (with the Castro MUNI Metro Station to downtown and the rest of the city) is a pleasant 10-minute downhill walk away, and the 33-Stanyan bus (stop less than 100 yards down the street) will whisk you to the restaurants and bars of the Castro, lovely Dolores Park, the hip hangouts, restaurants and galleries of the Mission, the 16th Street/Mission BART station, and Golden Gate Park. The historic F-Market streetcar will take you on a leisurely journey from the Castro to downtown, the recently renovated shops, markets, and eateries of the Ferry Building at the foot of Market Street, and on around the Embarcadero to Fisherman's Wharf and Ghirardelli Square.

My home is an easy one-transfer BART($8)/MUNI($2) ride from San Francisco and Oakland International Airports.

Your host is a friendly 49-year-old gay classical musician and attorney.

I look forward to welcoming you to San Francisco!

P.S. San Francisco has determined that Airbnb hosts should collect the city tax charged on hotel stays. I believe in the value of the hotel tax -- its revenues provide much-needed support to arts organizations throughout our city. Therefore, the rate for stays of fewer than 30 nights includes the applicable hotel tax amount. Note: Airbnb is in talks with San Francisco government regarding the hotel tax, and Airbnb announced on 3/31 that it plans to start collecting the hotel tax from guests directly as part of the booking process beginning sometime during the summer of 2014.

  • I had a wonderful stay at John's place. I felt very, very comfortable throughout my stay. The room felt private, cozy, and had all the amenities described in his listing. He was a great host and even offered muffins on the day I checked in. I highly recommend it if you're looking to stay in the Castro area. I would definitely stay again.

  • We have stayed at several nice hotels during our holiday in the US. The 3 nights we spent at John's place were by far the nicest! John is the perfect host and we loved the room and Johns house. The area is very interesting and friendly, we loved it :-) John made us feel like home, and we would have loved to stay for longer and get to know him better. He also makes the best banana bread!! We highly recommend John's place, and we really hope to be back someday. Francis and Sunniva from Norway.

  • This was our second visit to John Kelley's beautiful Airbnb. It was just as wonderful as the first...every effort is made to insure the comfort of guests. Homemade scones and banana bread, conversation with John, extraordinary surroundings and an excellent location put this home way over the top. The room is lovely and very accommodating...wifi at a lovely desk, private bath, great towels and heated mattress pad with dual controls. The furnishings are beautiful. This home is outstanding.

  • Great space and hosts! Will definitely try to stay here again so hope it does not become so popular we cannot.

  • We stayed with John and Rob for ten days as part of our honeymoon on the West Coast. They were wonderful hosts: very friendly and considerate; we felt like part of the family. The accommodation exceeded expectations and was very comfortable and stylish; it was the perfect base for exploring San Francisco, especially the Castro

  • We had a great time staying with John & Rob. Their place is great - plenty of room and very well appointed. Parking in the neighborhood was also pretty easy once Rob clued us in on the details. They were also great hosts with some helpful insight and I would recommend anyone interested in this neighborhood stay here!

  • We had a most wonderful stay at the Castro suite hosted by John and Rob! Can not recommend this lovely home high enough. Everything was way over the top…heated sheets! fresh breakfast pastries! knowledgeable host! great location…and the home is a visual feast! We left the snowstorms of the east coast for the warmth not only of the weather but of the host. Public transportation is nearby as well as lovely plantings, pocket gardens, and a fabulous lively shopping district on Castro Street. The views are spectacular and Kite Hill is a short climb nearby. We LOVED our stay here.

  • John and Rob were amazing hosts! The room was immaculately clean, and they even provided tour books to review and a basket of treats. I actually split my visit to the city between John and Rob's place and the Hyatt Regency downtown, and I much preferred my time with John and Rob.

They were very helpful with providing directions around town, told me some interesting stories about the neighborhood, and even picked me up from the BART station when I first arrived because it was raining - what service!

They were incredibly friendly, and I couldn't recommend them enough. Thanks John & Rob!

  • We had such a nice time at the Castro Suite hosted by John and Rob. The location is just great (it's ten minutes from Castro Street). Both the room and the whole house are spotless. The bedroom (including a large bathroom) is very spacious and so comfortable (thanks for the Ghirardelli treats in the basket!!). When we needed information about SF, Rob and John were always available and very helpful John and Rob have been very kind and considerate and we're very happy we got to meet them. Their hospitality has just been amazing and we will definitely stay with them again next time (in 2015?...we hope so!!!). By the way, John made some excellent baked goods during the week end :-) So if you're looking for a place to stay in this amazing city, do not hesitate! This is THE place you are looking for!

    Response from John:

Thanks, Lionel -- we are so glad you enjoyed your stay with us! John

  • We had a great stay at John and Rob's home. They were very accommodating, friendly, generous with their home's public spaces, a very well outfitted kitchen, and city tips. The guest room is very comfortable and well appointed, the bed excellent. The bathroom is clean, good sized and pleasant. We enjoyed the neighborhood, from which we walked, bussed, took muni trains all over the city. We ate at several very good restaurants on or near Valencia and Mission Sts. I also have to mention that the home is heavily scented, to which I am a bit sensitive. However, once I located the plug in air freshener, and unplugged it, the guest room's scent dissipated and was fine. Thanks for a great stay in a fun and attractive neighborhood.
