The apartment was cozy and was close enough to the main square (Plaza de Armas). Raul's parents were very sweet and attentive, and made sure we had a good experience. The only cons were that the apartment was close to a street market so there was a lot of trash on the streets and it was kind of dicey walking home at night. The apartment also didn't have hot water. But overall we had a good authentic Peruvian experience.
If you want to experience the real version of Cusco, you need to stay at Raul's apartment. Having also experienced San Blas neighborhood, I can say for sure that walking near this apartment will make you feel way more connected with the city, and the locals. Unfortunately, we didn't meet Raul but we did meet his father (also named Raul) who was fully helpful and had answers for all our questions. He even lend us a toaster!
The reservation was canceled 56 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
Huge apartment with everything you will need for longer stays. Checkin and checkout made easy with Raul's father living in same apartment block. Walking distance to most important touristic spots. Older style furnishings but very clean. Felt like a home. Highly recommended!
Raul was away during our stay but we were greeted and treated like family by his parents. If you like to travel like a “native” this is the perfect place. It is located in an apartment complex, just a 15 minute walk from the center of town, where you can shop from the locals. There is no shortage of local stands, markets and vendors. The apartment has all the essentials if you want to prepare your own meals. It is spacious and the bed is VERY comfortable.
Raul was the perfect host! My friend and I really enjoyed getting to know Raul during our 3 days in Cusco at his apt. His apt was spacious and very comfortable. It is located in a non-touristy area conveniently close to the Mercado Central de San Pedro where you can pick up all kinds of good stuff to eat and take home as souvenirs. The kitchen is well-stocked and included an electric teapot, coffee maker and microwave.
On our return trip from trekking to Machu Picchu, it was particularly nice to have the use of a washer & dryer in the apt. And for those travelers who need to know this, the hot water shower pressure isn't the best and a bit tricky to use but you get used to it.
We also enjoyed the use of Raul's stereo to listen to music and TV to watch DVDs in the living room. These little things and comforts from home helped to make our stay in Cusco that much more enjoyable.
Raul is an intelligent, talented young man and musician. He is fluent in English. Raul is kind, friendly, thoughtful and knowledgeable. He literally went the extra mile for us. He kindly took the time to take us to two Incan ruins just outside of Cusco, Q'enqo and Saqsaywayman (both highly recommended). We enjoyed Raul's warm hospitality/company and learned a great deal about the fascinating ancient cultures of his people and country.
Fantastic overall experience and highly recommended host/apt.
