Located in a historic district on the Gold Coast of Long Island's North, Shore Sea Cliff is One Square Mile. This Victorian gem is one of the best preserved villages on the East Coast and boasts of being one of the most popular seaside resorts at the turn of the twenteth-century. The real stars of the neighborhood are the many architectural beauties that have survived to delight another generation. Plan to take lots of photographs as you walk to narrow street and lanes.

Sea Cliff is a safe & quiet residential neighborhood and you won't need your car if you want something to eat or drink.

Within walking distance to the village, there's l pub that's very popular with the locals, a sushi restaurant and many more good places to dine at or take out from the deli or pizza parlor. My favorite market is North Shore Farms, the store with everything gourmet from fresh produce, to a sushi bar, homemade spinach pie right out of their in-store bakery and an array of cheeses fro around the world. The exact location id listed in your guide book.

If you need a hairdresser or an old fashioned barber shop, they are all in the village along with a vintage clothing store and a new wine shop.

You can take a short walk down to the beach or a short walk up the hill to see a spectacular vista from Memorial Park otherwise known as "Hippie Park."There are several other park throughout the One-Square-Mile village of Sea Cliff. The scenery is just as beautiful in cooler months as in the summer.

The Sea Cliff library, a former church, has printed walking tour guides and a helpful staff if you "need to know" anything. The library is one of my personal favorites. The third Thursday of each month the library hosts a jam where local musicians play mostly guitars & banjos with a few surprises.

Just a short drive from here, you can visit the Nassau County Museum of Art, the former Frick Mansion and estate. Often called the Rodeo Drive of Long Island, The Americana Shopping Center tenants include Prada, Brooks Brothers, Donna Karan, Dior, Escada, Ralph Lauren, Tiffany and Gucci to name a few. Apple has a beautiful store there too.

On your way back to Sea Cliff, you might go through the historic Village of Roslyn and stop at Bistro Critone for a wonderful meal or just enjoy a glass of wine on their deck overlooking the pond as the swans swim by.

Sea Cliff was one of the favorite destinations of Manhattan's cafe society as they ferried from the city to Rum Pointe. The old village is still here to be enjoyed today. Come explore! Bring your camera along. You won't be disappointed.

  • My girlfriend and I were looking to get away from the city for a few days during spring break but neither of us are able to drive. This place was absolutely perfect for us. Not only was it a breeze to get to Sea Cliff via the LIRR, but Rosanne also offered to drive us to and from the station which was above and beyond.

The studio was very cozy and clean and everything we needed was provided. We spent a few days walking around and exploring the town, which is an easy walk from the studio. We were also just a 2 min walk to the beach and despite it being cold, still managed to have a great time as there is a gorgeous view of the LI Sound.

Her adorable dog, Blue, was also a bonus! We bought him a few toys and treats and she let us play with him in the yard.

Sea Cliff is just far enough for a fun getaway but not too far to be a hassle. If you're looking for a cozy and convenient location with gorgeous views, an incredibly gracious and generous host, and an adorable dog...this is the place to be!

We are already planning another trip to this Long Island gem.

  • It was a wonderful writing weekend. I worked very hard on my writing and at night I slept like a baby in the comfortable, clean apartment. Roseanne was a great host (and she seems like such an interesting person). I'm actually booked for another writing weekend soon!

  • This was our first Air BnB experience and we couldn't have asked for a more wonderful hostess! Rosanne was very accommodating and flexible to our needs. The apartment was SUPER cute- you can definitely see an artist's influence in it's tasteful decor & layout! We had such a great time just relaxing, visiting with Rosanne, and taking in the beautiful scenery. Oh, and Sea Cliff.... what a charming little village! It's full of Victorian style houses, quaint little shops, & dramatic ocean views. Our visit turned out to be quite serendipitous as we actually decided to move there.... My boyfriend just started working in the Long Island area and we were staying at Rosanne's while looking for housing. Meanwhile, we just couldn't help but fall in love with Sea Cliff/the surrounding area. As fate would have it we found an apartment right downtown that turned out to be just right for us-we are so excited to now be able to call Sea Cliff home!

  • We made planned to make an appointment very late and we were so suprised when rosanne accomodated us on such a short notice. She is the absolute nicest host. She had had laid out a guide to the town with reviews on all the nearby restaurants and the place was spotless when we arrived. Everything was neatly ordered and very clean. The shower was great, really it was. The bed was comfortable. The tv was excellent.... Nothing wrong with the place, it was stunning and elegantly designed. Rosanne is the best host, very warm and friendly. The place is very comfortable. 10/10

  • I had an absolutely wonderful stay Whimsey By The Sea. It was peaceful and comfortable. The area is friendly with a great grocery store nearby, a Starbucks, and dining. It's a great to take a walk or just stay inside and read a book, do some work or watch tv. With all the snow that fell on long island that week, it made the whole stay seem like a winter wonderland. Rosanne was a gracious host. She even went as far as to drop off a few snacks at the apartment while we waited for the driveway to be cleared! I would definitely stay there again if I'm traveling to the area.

    Response from Rosanne:

Hopefully you will return when the weather turns warmer.
Only someone young at heart sees snowed-in as a winter wonderland. Great!

  • Lovely studio. Everything was new and clean. Great for short or long stay. The house also has a patio with an amazing view. The village is within minutes from the house, a very convenient and safe neighborhood. Her dog, blue, was very friendly and I enjoyed greeting him in the mornings. Would love to stay at this place again in the future, especially during the summer!

    Response from Rosanne:

Wow! Thanks for sharing your feelings about your stay at the studio. And, Blue & I do hope to see you again when you can enjoy a sunny day on the patio.

  • Rosanne was very flexible about arrival time and was welcoming when we arrived. We were sad not to encounter her again in our 3-day stay! The apartment was clean and comfortable and we had a lovely stay.

    Response from Rosanne:

Glad you enjoyed the studio and our little town. Hope you return to see it all again in the summer

  • What a cute little place in beautiful Sea Cliff!
We had a great stay and Rosanne was the best host imaginable - she is wonderful! As is her dog Blue :-)
We will come back for sure!

  • What a nice flat- the location is quiet, nestled amongst beautiful older homes with a gorgeous view of the water. The flat itself is quite comfortable: there is a kitchen area with a small refrigerator, a microwave, a sink, a coffee maker, dishes and cutlery; the bed is far more comfortable than one might expect a conversion bed to be, and while this seems like a silly detail, the water pressure in the shower is wonderful, which makes the morning so much nicer.

Rosanne stocked the kitchen with coffee, tea, sugar/ sweeteners, cream, and juice, which was a lovely touch- there were even candies in the apartment! Basic toiletries are also at hand, in case you've forgotten anything, and linens/ towels are provided.

The entertainment system works with Netflix, if you have an account, and has basic channels. There's also a good selection of VHS films available in the flat- something there for everyone!

    Response from Rosanne:

Sarah seems to have covered everything beautifully down to last detail. I've tried to make guests as comfortable as possible with little touches of luxury and every amenity that can be stowed in a studio.
Thanks Sarah for appreciating Whimsey by The Sea. Hope to see you again soon.

  • What a great view of the bay! Add the beautiful grounds, a gracious host, and a charming apartment, and you've got the makings of a marvelous Airbnb experience. Although not exactly centrally located, Sea Cliff is a quaint, little town, with enough "commerce" nearby for any need.

    December 2013
    Response from Rosanne:

It was great to have another Airbnb host here and get his feedback. Conway aptly described Sea Cliff as not central but he agrees the stunning five-mile view speaks for itself.

Born in Brooklyn, studied interior design at Pratt Institute After thirty-five years in the field I retired to write full time. My articles on design & architecture have been published & I am working on a second book. (website hidden) I have lived in Sea Cliff since 1977 and never tire of the place or its residents. The studio was designed as the ideal pied-a-terre for those who treasure small luxuries: B&W movies, sunsets, and walks along the beach (like me & my dog Blue). An interesting book, good food shared with friends, and writing, all bring me joy. Simple things please me most.
