Welcome to my home!
In the heart of the residential New Town, close to many of the historic sights and transport links, my flat is in an amazingly central location, great for getting around a city which is just made for walking.
The New Town is a World Heritage Site famed for its beautiful Georgian architecture. My flat is part of a traditional Edinburgh tenement dating from 1807. Set on the third floor, it has stunning views sweeping across the Firth of Forth as far as Fife (weather permitting!).
Your bedroom looks out over the city. It has a 4'6" double bed and plenty of storage and hanging space. Linen, plentiful towels, a dressing gown and a hair-dryer are provided. The bathroom (shared with just one) has a bath with a shower over and 24/7 hot water.
If you need a quiet break between seeing the sights, there is a cosy sitting room with a tv, and there is a high speed Wi-Fi connection for emailing. Tea and coffee are available on tap and, for breakfast, a free selection of cereals, toast and fruit for you to help yourself to for breakfast.
The New Town is a wonderful, less visited historic part of Edinburgh, well worth exploration. Close by is Carlton Hill, with striking monuments and views over the Royal Palace of Holyrood and Arthurs Seat. A short stroll away is Princes Street, with its gardens overlooked by Edinburgh Castle and the route leading up to the historic Old Town and Royal Mile.
Metered parking (free at weekends) is in the nearby streets. The national bus and railway stations are about a 10-15 minute walk, as is the Airbus airport bus link. The newly opened Edinburgh tram link also passes by just up the hill in St Andrew's Square. There are various convenience stores and all the amenities you might need, as well as lots of local eating and drinking places to choose from, from the restaurants and bars of George Street, to the local artisan cafes on Broughton Street, all a short walk away.
Highly recommend this lovely apartment close to the centre of Edinburgh. We had a great stay and Lorna was an excellent host, going the extra mile to help us out with tips on places to visit and providing a good breakfast. Would definitely come again!
Lorna was an amazing host. We got in quite late and were leaving very early the next morning for an event, and she was there to greet us and give us a quick tour of the flat. She had breakfast all laid out (cereals, toast, jams/spreads, milk, yogurt, fruit!) for us when we woke up the next morning--a perfect start to the day! The flat is super central (very close to the Edinburgh bus station and Edinburgh Waverley train station) and has a beautiful view. The flat and the room itself were nicely decorated and clean. We had exclusive use of a high-spec bathroom that was very clean. Would definitely recommend staying here!
Lorna was lovely and very welcoming. She went out of her way to work around my arrival time- which wasn't really necessary but was much appreciated! The flat is brilliantly located, in a beautiful part of New Town and felt like home for the short time I was there. I came up for the festival, so it was very much- late nights and late mornings, I was conscious of not disturbing Lorna's routine but she made me feel very comfortable and slightly less guilty about it! The little touches are what made the stay worthwhile- the dressing gown in my room, the cotton pads and buds, the fresh berries at breakfast, the painkillers!! I'm very glad Lorna came with me to see my friend's show- as a host she's very easy-going, helpful and up for doing stuff- although she also lets you 'get on with it' and gives you your own space. A very pleasurable experience.
I was made welcome immediately, not only by a hot cuppa, but also by Lorna hauling my suitcase up the final flight of stairs (there are a lot of stairs, I always overpack and my knees are bad).
Everything about the listings are accurate. Perfect view, beautiful neighbourhood and the photos represent exactly what you get. The breakfasts were superb. The fresh fruit was delicious, the coffee good and strong. After being honest about my morning mood (hopeless at small talk until after coffee) Lorna let me surface at my own pace.
I was able to have a hot bath each night after running around the Festival all day and tumbled into a deep sleep nightly in the comfy bed.
Lorna and I had lovely chats about this and that when we met up. She even took my advice about going to see a show I enjoyed: hope she enjoyed it, too.
Lorna's airbnb will be my first stop on my next visit to Edinburgh.
Lorna is a great host. She gave us detailed directions to the apartment and was very welcoming when we arrived. The room is extremely comfortable and nicely decorated, as it the whole flat.
It's location is perfect. Less than a 15 minute walk to the train station and close to all of the action, while being nice and quiet.
Each morning Lorna left a beautiful breakfast on the table for us, which was really appreciated.
We had a busy weekend at the Edinburgh Fringe, so didn't spend as much time in the apartment or with Lorna than we normally would on an AirBnB listing, but I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Lorna's place to anyone.
Lorna's flat is central, very attractive and is immaculately kept. Lorna herself was a fantastic host. She was very welcoming and went out of her way to help me with directions, restaurant suggestions and ideas for places to walk, see and get a great coffee! This was my first experience with airbnb and it was way beyond what I expected. Did I mention the fab breakfast - definitely not to be missed! Or the great view over towards the Forth of Firth. Extremely comfortable and enjoyable.
I'm now in my second year of Airbnb hosting. It's been great fun and I've been lucky enough to meet and host some wonderful people.
Having lived in Edinburgh on and off for over 20 years, I hope I can share some ideas to help you get a more "local" flavour of this great city, as well as passing on top tips given me by fellow travellers for the best sights in Edinburgh and beyond.
I look forward to welcoming you to my home!
