Beautiful old Crofthouse situated in the stunning bays area of the Isle of Harris. The house was lovingly renovated and restored by oursleves sits by the sea above the tranquil small working fishing harbour below. We have Wifi, TV, HiFi and record collection, a DVD player and Playstation with games for big and little kids. Sleeps 4 adults in one double and a twin room, with 2 childrens beds and a further sofa bed downstairs if needed.

The house is our own family holiday home so it is furnished as such. It has a friendly family atmosphere with every possible utility you might expect of a family home. It is centrally heated and has a Rayburn stove and a woodburner too. There is a full bathroom with Roll Top bath and power shower. We also have a Piano, Guitars and and easel for the creative.

Really enjoyed our stay, loved the property and the location. A great place to come back to after a day walking the dog on the many glorious beaches or after some sightseeing . Remote location, as most places are on Harris but really handy for Tarbert and the beaches.

We had a beautiful stay here and would love to return. I would recommend this home to all family & friends. Great base to explore Lewis & Harris and so relaxing and welcoming. Everything has been well thought out for guests, down to the smallest details. Washing machine, dishwasher, great cooking facility's, wonderful space for everyone, good quality towels and bed linen were much appreciated too. Great collection of DVD's, books, guitars, piano and the coolest music collection to pass your evenings. I loved waking in the morning to see the sheep wandering past and the sound of the sea....beautiful, perfect location. Book here, you'll thank yourself for it!

Crofthouse is in an idyllic spot on the Bays and Islands part of South Harris-secluded and peaceful ,but only 15 mins from Tarbert and the West Coast beaches on remarkably well maintained if small roads! Actual location is a dead end so not even passing traffic -and all you can hear at night are the sheep.., No tourist buses here! A perfect base to relax in Jonny 's lovely cosy and well equipped home and from which to explore this gem of an island Hope to be back and highly recommended!

We absolutely loved staying at Jonny's place. The open plan layout is really spacious and welcoming and light-filled. There are heaps of great books and CDs, and the shower is brilliant. We had the best time and would definitely recommend this place, particularly to artists and those who love tranquility and rural escapes. Thanks, Jonny!

Disappointing holiday rental property My wife and I are not unfamiliar with the process of offering self-catering accommodation to the public, having previously owned a property in the east of Scotland that was of genuinely 5-star standard. The current Crofthouse at Stockinish did not come remotely close to this level and was the more disappointing because we came on from one in Lewis that was far better. In trying to provide a balanced review let me begin by saying that considerable effort has been expended on the external restoration of the house and that internally it was clean and warm, the latter due to the somewhat noisy oil-fired central heating. The shower was also of above average effectiveness. In itemizing the negative features (as we saw them) I offer the following list. Despite no mention in the published details, the house is not suitable for anyone with even mild mobility problems. The drive is steep and loose-metalled and poses a walking hazard. The staircase lacks a complete handrail and the only toilet is located upstairs. The beds are small, poor and uncomfortable. The bathroom wash hand basin is cracked right across the bowl, is discoloured and has taps that are very unsatisfactory. The bath is discoloured. On the ground floor, instructions for operating the assortment of television and hifi equipment seem to be non-existent. Signs of a ‘Please do not . . .’ kind proliferate. There was no welcome pack of any kind provided. Overall, the impression created was of an approach to self-catering more commonly found in the 1970s where any old assortment of second hand fittings and furniture was deemed acceptable. We felt that this property did not match up to the rental charged.

Response from Jonny:
I feel I must respond to this unfair and unrealistic criticism. I think it goes without saying that everyone else who has stayed at our cottage has had a wonderful time. We are on various sites not just this one. Firstly the cottage is our own family second home not a five star listed accommodation, it was never listed as such. Five star accommodation is available on the island at much more expense if searched for. In response to the questions on mobility issues, again it is not listed as having any of those features. If mobility issues have been a problem in the past most people have contacted us beforehand. This covers the issue with the graveled drive also, most people dont find graveled drives a problem. They are very common on the islands. The bath is an original cast roll top bath, not a brand new plastic affair. The instructions for house are in a blue folder which is left of the sideboard and the do not signs are for people safety, such as "mind your head". Regarding decor from the 1970's,this is clearly not the case but we do have various pieces of antique furntiture. Overall I think that the person renting the property has not looked at the listing properly or the pictures as the booking was taken very quickly when someone cancelled last minute. Im sorry they feel they had bad time, no one else has complained in all the time of renting the cottage either here on airbnb or anywhere else.

This is a really nice comfortable place to come. Nice view of the wee harbour and only 15 minutes drive from Losgantir beach, which is amazing. For us, the fact that we could pick up a guitar or tinkle on the piano really helped make it extra special and the dvd collection was more than able to see us through the evenings. Come prepared, though. Shops are thin on the ground in Harris, and there are no proper supermarkets, though the wee community shop in Leverburgh covers most needs.

The Croft house is a comfortable family home restored with love and a creative eye for detail. As artists ourselves the only thing missing was a wider outlook but the position demonstrates a requirement for shelter in the siting of older properties. We altogether loved it and will come back.
