Interaction with Guests
I'm in close correspondence with all our guests during their inquiry, throughout their stay and after their checkout. I answer questions within a few hours at all times.
Additionally our bilingual concierge Diana, is there to greet and be of assistance to our guest during their stay. Diana and I maintain close communication and pay close attention to guest requests and feedback.
The great thing about our location is that the most important thing is just a short walk away. The beach! In fact it's more like a 7 minute walk. Even a shorter walk is Mary's Restaurant, which we highly recommend for their seafood specials and an overall fun atmosphere to hang with family and friends and shoot some pool. There is a small convenient store (Super Chico) in town and a surf shop (Feedom Riding), both are a short walk from the villa.
We recommend all our guest to have a means of transport so you can get to enjoy more of the area. We can suggest rental car agencies which have very competitive prices just message us. Another option is to rent ATVs. We can arrange the delivery of ATVs to the villa ahead of time so that they are here when you get here. Taxis are available in town and our concierge would be more than happy to arrange pick-ups and drop-offs.
Other Things to Note
One of the nicest things about our location our proximity to the Mal Pais Fishery. You can head over there and buy some fresh fish right off the line. The fisherman will filet it for you right on the spot.
The variety of fish caught off the Mal Pais coast includes Red Snapper, Sea Bass, Grouper, Snook & Tuna just to name a few. It really depends on the season. It's just down the road!
If you are traveling with children we'd like to mention that our concierge Diana is great with kids. She is a local school teacher and she runs a children camp. If you need babysitting or nanny service during your stay just lets us know ahead of time.
Ask our concierge Diana for snorkeling gear, we have a couple of brand new sets.

A very comfortable penthouse in a quiet residential area but set up on a hill and in no way overlooked by other homes around. There is another apartment downstairs so ask and then confirm again with the owner Adi if this will be occupied for you stay dates as he can let you know either way. Adi was very helpful and took a lot of time in giving us tips as to how to get here, hire car, ferry ride etc. The house is airy and has a wonderful terrace with grill and even with a resident solitary (small) bat (he was so gorgeous, completely harmless and it was wonderful to watch him take flight for the night at sunset on a couple of occasions -- please never think it's ok to touch or move him, it wouldn't be!!) as well as an amazing hot tub. This was lovely for a relaxing soak under the stars after a "tough" day on the beach learning to surf ! The pool is shared with the downstairs apartment, maintained daily and really gorgeous too. Diana, the concierge lives on the property and her house is at the entrance of the property, again not overlooking this the penthouse. She is super helpful and will give you any information about the area you might need. Restaurants we liked included Mary's (just around the corner), The Bakery for breakfast or brunch in Santa Teresa, Katana (Asian food -- really yummy) a little further up and a number of the many smaller more locally rustic places dotted through. There are great bars around too for sunset cocktails. We loved Roco Mar (right on the beach) for the sunset especially on a Sunday; they have great passion fruit mojitos, a Sunday night DJ (really good Ibiza club type music) and activities for the kids with ropes and swings and a beach fire and hula hoop dancers. The sunsets on this coast are some of the best I've seen in the world. There are many beautiful beaches of course! Hermosa is great for gentle surfing but has enough too for more experienced surfers. There is a beach just past the fish market in Mal Pais that is a little gem too, great for snorkeling and rock pool exploration. If you care to walk down the path into the reserve from the same place, maybe about a mile you'll find an even more secluded beach there. You'll see howler monkeys in the reserve and lots of iguanas and birds too. Overall, you can't go wrong with this property or with the area. There is plenty to do and see and as I sit here in New York City now, I feel rather nostalgic...
Wow, thank you for such an amazing and informative review Samantha. I really appreciate you taking the time like that. It was a pleasure having you and your family at the penthouse. I look forward to having you stay with us again in the future.
Take and care and best regards, Adi : )
Our days at Pacific Azure in the Penthouse apartment were just great. The home was very comfortable and well kept and we all loved the pool. Mal Pais is quite out of the way, which we liked. We were disappointed at first that we were not closer to the beach, but ended up loving the location and did walk to the rocky beaches twice. We are not fluent in Spanish so we did not speak with our downstairs neighbors, who sang with a loud radio until after 1:30 am. While it appeared to be quite fun for them and we were happy they enjoyed their evening, I'd suggest meeting whomever you are sharing the house with and requesting reasonable behavior through Diana if you can't communicate. That was really the only negative of the four days, which is hardly controllable by anyone. We'd go back.
This place was amazing!! The location, amenities and the attentiveness of the host and Diana the concierge are first class!! My only regret was not cooking more in the house. We finally decided to buy food and fruits from the local market and cooked breakfast, lunch and truly enjoyed the surrounding beautiful green mountain, the monkeys and the sound of the Surf. Also, taking a swim in the pool at night while stargazing was spectacular! You must travel here and enjoy the peaceful nature of this place. Finally the surfing locations are incredible. We surfed every day and there is nothing like surfing with the Sun setting while you are in the ocean. Thank you for providing such a beautiful place for us to spend our time in!!!
Just returned from an 8 night stay at pacific azure. WOW!!! As we arrived in Mal pais, the concierge, Diana, was there to greet us and show us around the property. She was so helpful, sharing restaurants, possible activities and anything else we could have needed. The house was beautiful. The pool was amazing, especially the multiple lounge chairs that were great for naps in the shallow pool section. Every morning and evening the jungle wildlife would come alive. Following the jungle noise at night, we were able to hear the waves crash on the beach.
The only day that our group wished we could change was the day we left....everybody wanted to lengthen the vacation. I highly recommend pacific azure!
Thanks Evan for the really nice review! Glad you guys enjoyed our beach house and our pool. Would love to have you guys again anytime! I will pass on the compliments to Diana, she really does do an amazing job. Hahaha, funny about not wanting to leave the last day.
Best Regards & Thanks Again!
Adi was incredibly helpful and quick to respond to all of our questions before we came down to Costa Rica. The concierge Diana also was very friendly and told us all we needed to know about the place. The house itself is modern and clean, with a beautiful kitchen and a wonderful scenic balcony. Me and four friends rented the "penthouse," which is essentially the upstairs floor of the house. The reason for giving four stars is the third room (with a single bed) ended up being way too hot at night (probably hotter than 80º). It also wasn't clear to us based on the listing that we'd only be renting the upstairs portion of the house. Other than that we had an excellent time at the house and would recommend it to other travelers.
Thank you Chris, appreciate the great feedback and the recommendation. Heard you guys had a fabulous time with Miguel's surf lessons! I will defiantly make sure the air temp situation on that third room is resolved thank you so much for letting me know. Best Regards and hope to host you guys sometime again.
Absolutely loved the house! Very clean! Diana is so sweet. We would stay here again! There's a restaurant down the street called Mary's it's delicious. It's also helpful to have a car or ATV if you are staying here to drive into town with!
Great place to stay. Awesome contrast with rest of santa Teresa. The caretaker was very helpful. Having mary's so close is important. Good yoga at indigo nearby. Enjoy bone jarring rude to capo blanco

Mal Pais and Santa Teresa have long been under the radar of the Costa Rican traveler. Discover this beautiful part of the planet on your next vacation to Costa Rica. You'll feel right at home at our stylish vacation rentals while the relaxing rustic environment will most definitely let you unwind.
I enjoy watching people fall in love with Mal Pais, the locals and the laid back lifestyle. Funny how our guests are always tempted to extend their vacation.
My name is Adi and I've lived for over 20 years in Costa Rica, which is about half of my life. My family and some of my most amazing friends live just around the corner.
It's simple, start your day with a good cup of Costa Rican coffee... surf, explore and relax with your family and friends. It's all right here! What else does one need. : )
