  • The Costarican Typical House transaction was my first interaction with airbnd and with rental of a non-hotel vacation stay. I am very happy to share that the entire experience, from start to finish, was absolutely positive! The host, Luis Carlos, responds promptly and honestly to all messages communicated before, during, and after the trip.
Since minute one of our arrival to the house, my family and I were treated as one of the Muñoz Ramirez family members. Surprisingly, it felt as if we were reuniting from an extended period of time from not seeing each other. The host (and his family) will take time out from their scheduled activities to make you feel at home, provide recommendations, and even give you a personal tour of their city, nearby attractions, and insight to a true local experience.
I am very happy to have shared my visit to Costa Rica with such a loving, helpful, and considerate host. Thank you, LuisCa!

  • My husband, two friends of ours, and myself all had a wonderful stay with Luis and his family. Though we only stayed one night, Luis was so nice and communicated well before our arrival. His family was so kind and generous to offer us fresh fruit from their plantation, breakfast in the morning and the house had everything we needed. The shower was a little colder than we are normally used to, but it was not a problem because it was so warm there. We would definitely stay with Luis and his family again, they were so nice and very accommodating. We had a great time telling stories and getting to know Luis and the property for our one night stay. This is the perfect place to stay if you're looking for a place that is close to the airport or if you plan to explore San Jose.

Thank you so much Bekky, we had a great time with you. Hope to meet you all again.

  • We were excited to be here but were disappointed with the way that it turned out.
When we arrived on a Saturday, we were about an hour early. We didn't have a phone that made local calls, so I couldn't notify them. They were still cleaning and doing dishes when we got there, which is fine. However, five minutes after we got there, the water wasnt working for the house. Luis didn't seem too phased by this. I asked him if it was normal and he said no, and at he didn't know why there was no water, and left. So we had to walk around to find a store that sells water so we could cook, flush, etc.
The water came back on at 7 in the morning with this loud banging noise. When we arrived back at the house at 8 at night, the water was off again. I walked over to Luis's house but nobody came to the door. Luckily we had a car at this point so we drove around looking for a store that was open that late on a Sunday. The water came back on at 3 AM, waking everyone up with the loud banging noise. We investigated and realized the house uses a water barrel. And now that it was filling with water the pipes were banging against each other. After about 30 minutes of trying, we managed to silence it.
I had previously arranged our situation with Luis. My boyfriend and I would be there the first night with one of his friends who was leaving the next day. After his friend left, my boyfriends mother and brother would be coming to stay. He said this would be fine. 2 weeks before the trip, we found out that my boyfriends sister would be coming. I emailed Luis as soon as I found out asking how to pay the extra person fee, but never heard back.
On the last day, several people in my party asked if they needed to pay him. He said no, but then cornered me and told me i needed to pay him for the extra person. I didn't have any cash, and told him this is why I asked to pay ahead of time. He said he messaged me about paying in cash but there is no message in my BnB inbox. I told him we had to spend 50$ on water for the whole weekend and he said that it is my fault for not telling him about it (even though nobody was home and I didn't have a phone to contact him). He also questioned me about some people that came to pick up my boyfriends friend, sayIng that his mother thought i had 6 people spend the night because she saw them leave the house. Later in an email he said that the water was a city problem the first night and the second was because someone broke the toilet (nobody did). Overall, very disappointing.

  • Very nice house and incredibly friendly family.I can not say enough nice things about this listing.the house is very convenient to central Costa Rica attractions like paos volcano and to the airport. We came during Christmas break and the family had our kids play holiday music on their keyboard, shared a drink of Nancy and their family tamales.

  • We enjoyed our stay here. The home is in a great location to visit sites in and around San Jose including some National Parks. Luis Carlos was very helpful and the nice surprise was having a typical Costa Rican breakfast brought to us our first morning.

  • We were treated so well by Luis' entire family. They picked us up at the airport (so nice as we just had a long trip) and made us a delicious typical Costa Rican breakfast. It was a nice way to arrive in the country. We met Luis, Melissa and their folks who shared a drink he makes from a fruit called Nancy. It was a lovely and strong nightcap. :)

This is a very typical and comfortable Costa Rican home. It was neat to see how coffee beans are grown right outside our door. The other side of the house shares a wall with a clothing store that plays thumping music from 9am-5 or 6pm. The volume varies, not always so loud and we were not there most of the day.
The house was very clean with fluffy white bath towels. The shower is different that what we know back home--The temperature is like a warm tropical rain.
They called us taxis when needed and translated to the cab driver where we were going. The Ark herb farm was a lovely and close day trip giving personal tours and ends with a really beautiful tree house.
Santa Barbara is a safe place to walk. We tried a restaurant Melissa recommended just down the road and they lent us umbrellas to walk there. The supermarket is just down the street past the main square, also an easy walk. A great was to begin or end a visit with a glimpse into everyday life in CR.

  • We had such an amazing time staying here and we can't say enough good things about the entire family. From the moment we arrived we felt welcomed, and our one-year-old son was immediately 'adopted'! The house was perfect--clean, comfortable, private, and everything we needed was included. Luis Carlos and his family even lent us the family baby crib! Such a special thing. The property was very peaceful and we were well fed from the numerous fruit trees and vegetable plants that our hosts generously shared. The location is great for commuting to San Jose, Heredia, or Alajuela, although we really enjoyed poking around Santa Barbara too. Our hosts provided us with lots of helpful information about the surrounding area. We feel lucky to have met these new friends and we know we will be back again!

  • We stayed at the Ramirez guest house our first night in Costa Rica. Wish we could have stayed longer! They are such a lovely family - generous, warm and patient. The house is clean and comfortable. I wish we could have roamed around the plantation more. It is a very pretty place.

  • Luis and his family are lovely people, very kind and gracious. Being on the same property as the main house we were able to establish a good relationship with the family. We were treated to homemade tortillas warm from the oven one morning and a delicious homemade bread on another occasion, both very much appreciated. The house is really cute and well-maintained. We would definitely recommend a stay with Luis and his family when planning a vacation in the Central Valley of beautiful Costa Rica.
