We have a beautiful and private guest room with private bathroom in our 160 year old historical home, located deep in the Bywater. Hear the sounds of trains, tug boats and the odd roosters crowing at sun set and sun rise while being steps away to the famous Vuaghan's Bar, great southern authentic BBQ at the Joint, great old world style and jazz at Bacchanal Fine Wine & Spirits and we are adjacent to the Marigny neighborhood which is home to Frenchman street, where all great New Orleans musicians play. The room has a comfortable double mattress and its own private bath room with traditional claw foot bathtub.
We have a nice eat in kitchen and a desk out side your room if you need to do any computer or office work.
The house itself is a wonderful historical example of New Orleans Creole style architecture totally preserved and filled with the decor I have collected from years of traveling the world.
We are in the off shoot of the Bywater (with the canal right behind us, hence By the Water...) and our neighborhood is less trendy than the other side of St Claude and an example of diverse New Orleans living. Our small pocket is a mix of black, white, latino, working class, artists, musicians, young families and some older folks who have been in the area for over 60 years.
We offer Bikes for you to use during your stay for a small one time fee of $15/bike which helps toward flat tires and maintenance Bikes to rent on Frenchman street go for 35 bucks a day! I think biking the city is the best way to see all the magic.
There is plenty of parking and we are a 5 min drive from the French Quarter or a 15 min bike ride.
New Orleans Summers can be hot! The house has central AC /heat that we turn on during very hot or cold spells. Also the room has a window AC/ heater unit to ensure your comfort
Your section of the house is private and you have an enterance to come and go. We do not mind those who want to hit the night life and come home late- all we ask is that you are quiet when coming home after midnight
You will share the house with myself and my barking protective Manchester Terrier dog, Mississippi. At times I have other creative friends staying with me at the house.
Our house is best for those with a car or those who like to bike. Public transit is good during day time hours and there are 2 buses that bring you to the Quarter, however they do not run so often at night. (i provide schedules and info on the bus system to make it easy)
Please send a message before booking.
PLEASE READ BEFORE BOOKING
1- we are located off the beaten path. 2,5 Miles from the French Quarter and 6 miles from the Garden District. To the Quarter that means it is a very long walk, easy 15 min bike ride, 5 min by taxi or car)
2- Weather- It can sometimes be chilly from Dec-Feb and it is tropical hot from July-September, with daily short rain showers in August.
3- our space is not recommended for the elderly or kids
4- the public transit runs well during the day in New Orleans. we provide bus maps/schedules (88 st claude bus brings you right to the quarter or the number 5 bus through the bywater) but we do not recommend taking the bus late night. It is a 12-15 dollar cab right to or from the quarter and we can happily provide you with numbers for taxi companies.
5- safety- New Orleans does not have a long standing rep as being a safe city. However i have heard about many more muggings in the Quarter than anything happening in our neighborhood. None the less, we recommend biking in pairs during the late night hours
6- who we think is most suited for our space- urban savvy folks who like our selves who wanted to be outside the tourist traps and are traveling on a budget. We suggest those with a car OR those planning on renting a car OR those willing to be bike adventurers Or up for public transit during the day and a cab home late night. If you are thinking of taking cabs back and forth daily from the quarter or festivals (therefore not biking or using a car ) then you might as well book something which is closer to the quarter and spend the money you would on cabs on a more expensive room centrally located room.
This space is also great for those here for a conference and need budget accommodation or here for a project and need a reasonable priced place beautiful place to stay.
7- Renting a car in the summer or if you are just not that into bikes- it cost about $35 to a get a cab from the airport to the Quarter- $40 from the airport to our space. Same price for the return trip. To rent a car for the weekend it is about $70 (less than the round trip in cabs to the airport)if you book on Hotwire or PriceLine name your own price and in advance. So if you are coming for a weekend visit we recommend renting a car. THis way you can hit all things great about this city. The Garden District Uptown, City Park area, check out the Lower 9th Ward and see how the rebuilding it going, Audubon Park and Zoo etc. We will happily share with you are favorite places all over the city.

Lees thank you for a great visit!
I had great time staying at Lees house. The accommodations she provided were more than sufficient. The interior of the house was clean and wonderfully decorated. The room with the attached bath was a great feature. The accommodations also offered access to a WiFi internet connection, an office desk and a full kitchen.
Having stayed in the Bywater neighborhood on prior visits I knew what the neighborhood had to offer. The location of the house is not for the uptight. It is more for the adventuresome who are open to the surprises offered by the Bywater.
I rented one of the bikes Lees offers at a nominal fee. It was a great way to get around town. The next time I visit the city I'll commute around the city on a bike.
I would definitely rent this room from Lees again if it is available for my next visit.
Had a great experience staying with Lees. I came to New Orleans for a conference and am so glad I stayed here rather than on Canal St. The Bywater area was beautiful and welcoming, and Lees provides helpful info to navigate the area. Room was lovely and comfortable, and the bathroom was unreal. Communicating with Lees was a breeze...highly recommended, hope to come back one day!
Lees was a fantastic host! We enjoyed every minute of our stay in her beautiful home. Since we'd determined we'd eat at least one home cooked meal each day (to offset all those calories from good ol southern food) we really appreciated the use of her well stocked kitchen. Coming from NYC the use of such a big kitchen was a luxury.
It was a pleasure to stay at Lees. She made it easy for us to get in, had arranged maps with information and a list of nice places to eat, and on top of that her house is absolutely gorgeous. We really enjoyed being able to stay in such a nice space and felt it provided a great frame for our visit to New Orleans.
Lees' guest room was great—nice little room with a space heater for winter, huge beautiful bathroom, fantastic shared kitchen, huge yard with lemon trees full to bursting, all in a terrific location. The bikes were great for getting around and Lees was super friendly and helpful. I really enjoyed my stay—highly recommended!
Lees place is perfect! Lees takes very good care of the property and makes you feel very much at home. She is extremely organized and clean which is assuring when coming into a stranger's home. The environment is also laid back so you can certainly just be yourself and feel right at home. Though it is a shared home with several people around, there is still lots of privacy and respect of your space. what more can I say?
We had an awesome time staying in this beautiful house!! Lees was a great host and her local tips really added to our experience of New Orleans. We loved the Bywater. We like to stay off the beaten path, really experience an area and avoid tourist traps. This was the perfect place to do just that. We had bikes (Lees also has some to rent) which was the perfect way to get around. Having our own private (and beautiful) bathroom was great. This place is amazing value for money and exactly what we were looking for. Thanks!!
Lees was a great host. The space is so cool and the bathroom is unreal. She and her roommate went out of their way to make me feel welcome. They even gave me a heads up about all of the Bywater festivities that weekend. I would definitely stay with Lees again. She and her roommate are really cool.
This home is amazing! We had a great trip to NOLA and the room was exactly what we expected and needed. Lees was great at communicating with us and it was a breeze to get in. The bikes were an extra perk and we sure did use them. We loved the neighborhood and felt at ease and at home everywhere we went.
Lees place was great. The funky Bywater location was peaceful and quiet. The room and bathroom where roomy and clean. Check in/ check out was smooth as can be. The bikes where very useful and the dogs where adorable yet not intrusive. I liked sitting on the porch enjoying the evening wathcing the day wind down. Overall the description is very accurate and the hosts welcoming. I would recommend the space to others and would definitely stay there again myself.
