The riad is a beautiful cozy place hidden in a maze of small alleys - but still within easy walking distance of the busy souks and Jenaa el Fnaa. We had a great stay over 10 days for the climate conference and the staff were extremely kind and friendly. We also had a dinner at the hotel and it was delicious! An added plus is the availability of wine.

Beautiful riad in the centre of marrakech's medina. Close to souks, square etc you can't go wrong with location. Room is big and nicely decorated with vintage furniture and classic Moroccan plaster details. Pretty cold in winter (no fireplace and only an oil heater) but this is to be expected plus if you are security conscious you can't lock the door to your room and guests aren't given keys to the main door but this wasn't an issue for us. Also this room (badiane) is on the ground floor so is probably a lot colder and darker than other rooms. Food in the riad was good but on the pricey side. Of the people we stayed with in Morocco, David wasn't the most welcoming of hosts in spite of being in the riad most days entertaining his personal group of guests. Also we were not shown around the riad when we arrived (we discovered a swimming pool as we were leaving!) and had a few issues with being overcharged for drinks we didn't have. We probably wouldn't stay here again but if you're looking for a very nice looking, reasonable place to stay in Marrakech worth putting on the list.

Riad dar Mouassine is a beautiful traditional Riad about a 10 minute walk from the nearest Medina entrance and down a few quiet back alleyways. It has a certain dusty charm that makes it an authentic Marrakech stay for an affordable price. Don't expect the pinnacle of luxury from Riad dar Mouassine but rather casual authenticity. Our suite was roomy and looks like the photos. It slept 3 comfortably, with big ceilings, two fans, and wonderfully chilly AC. It is on the 1st floor, so it doesn't get radiant natural light, which was perfect for sleeping in. The Riad doesn't provide you with keys to your room or the exterior door, so you'll have to ring the bell everytime you want to return home. And the door to our room didn't lock (or really close) so we were instructed to leave our valuables in the safe provided. Might not be the best for someone who isn't trusting of their hosts. While we didn't interact with David at all, a manager did let us in and welcome us. Because she was busy at the time she didn't really have time to show us around the space. But it wasn't a big deal because we didn't plan on spending much time in the Riad.

The first obstacle to get over is the location and journey to the Raid: a taxi ride then a short walk. Do not be put off by the rabbit warren and maze of streets: It's a typical residential area for Marrakesh. The streets are very safe and the people very helpful. We arrived just before eight in the evening and our host David and Omor were very friendly and accommodating. Omar, who looks after the place during the evening and night was a Moroccan " Jeeves." Always very polite, friendly and accommodation. As all the employees and guest were. The rooms was as advertised and for my wife and I perfect. As our room was located on the ground floor, due to the array of plants we had a very private seating area to enjoy our breakfast or to lounge about in. On the Friday we dined in to enjoy a typical Moroccan feast. Which I would recommend. The local rosie and red wines stocked by David are very palatable. We always enjoyed a glass or two on the roof top terrace before turning in! My wife and will certainly be making an other visit to Marrakesh and if there is room at the "inn" we will be staying at David's.
