MOUNT WASHINGTON is a hilly residential neighborhood in the hills of northeastern Los Angeles. It was founded in 1909 as a subdivision by real estate developer Robert Marsh. It is still one of the few affordable areas left in Los Angeles to buy a home. Mount Washington lies halfway between downtown Los Angeles and Pasadena. It's often called “The Poor Man's Laurel Canyon," another more affluent neighborhood in the Hollywood Hills.
Mount Washington is nestled in between Glassell Park to the northwest, Eagle Rock to the north, Highland Park to the northeast, Montecito Heights to the southeast, across the Arroyo Seco, and Cypress Park to the southwest.
Mount Washington is a gem of a neighborhood right in the city of Los Angeles, in fact recently, it has been considered as "the" place to live. Many motion picture actors and actresses, along with writer, musicians and others involved in the industry, have lived in Mt. Washington over the years; such as, John Doe, Bill Barminski, Patrick Bristow, Guy Hendrix Dyas, and Daddy Kev.
Multiple recreation areas - great for walks and hikes - are within walking distance.
Hipster Footsie's bar on 2640 N Figueroa St, Los Angeles,
Antigua Coffee Roasters on 3400 N Figueroa St, and a Mexican tacos place all are just down the street.....walking distance from the house.
FARMER'S market happens every Tuesday from 3-8pm Ave (EMAIL HIDDEN)e for the entertainment and stay for the fresh produce, hot and prepared foods and arts and crafts.
The Old LA Farmers Farmer's Market is every Tuesday from 3-8pm. Corner of North Figueroa and Ave. 58. Lots of free parking at Ave. 57.
One of the many attractive features of living in the hills of Mount Washington is that it boasts views of the San Gabriel Valley and Los Angeles Basin to the Pacific Ocean on clear days. The hills provide mounds of green with views of downtown L.A., the San Gabriel Mountains, tranquil canyons, hillsides, and valleys. This is one of the only neighborhoods in metro Los Angeles that still has significant numbers of trees and wildlife.
Close to highway I-5,I-10,I-110...downtown LA 10 minutes distance .
If you don't have a car, there is easy access to Los Angeles and Pasadena at the bottom of Mt Washington. The Gold Line stops on Heritage Square and can take you downtown, to Union Station, from which you can travel anywhere in the city (or the state, as Amtrak also departs from there) or, take it in the other direction to Pasadena.
Grocery stores are easy to access as well, from Superior on Figueroa Street to Super King on San Fernando Road or Trader"s Joe and Eagle Rock Plaza on Colorado Blvd.
