Why spend your time in a cramped apartment, when you can spread out and share an entire home? With me, no less! Bask in the morning sunshine with coffee on the front porch or breakfast nook in the kitchen. How about a BBQ in the gorgeous back yard?

The space

The master bedroom in my (gorgeous) Beverly Hills-adjacent Art Deco home, located in a very quiet residential neighborhood, will be your home for the duration of your stay. Live in the heart of the city while enjoying the quiet and comfort of a suburban residential neighborhood. No apartments and plenty of parking. No parking permits!

The master bedroom is your sanctuary. Sleep soundly in a new, incredibly-comfortable (hypoallergenic) California king-size bed or relax in the plush, over-sized, leather club chairs. Enjoy TV, DVD, Netflix, 50 mps high-speed wireless Internet, and the (shared) bathroom (featuring a shower large enough to accommodate two and separate bathtub) is right next door. Enjoy full kitchen access with a lovely Art Deco breakfast nook. Espressos, lattes, juicer, etc. and a blender for smoothies and/or Margaritas. Forget Starbucks and Jamba Juice. Formal dining room and a designer living room features a fireplace, view of downtown, and 55-inch LED/LCD surround-sound, multimedia home theater. Do you prefer your martini shaken or stirred? A brand-new steam-cleaning washer/drier is available. Clothes all crumpled from traveling? The drier has a quick steam refresh feature. No ironing! Beautifully landscaped back yard for lounging, drinking, dining, even entertaining.

I live two minutes south of BEVERLY HILLS just off the ultra-chic, celebrity-filled Robertson Blvd (much more hip than Rodeo Drive, but close to there too if you like), CENTURY CITY, WEST HOLLYWOOD and (if you prefer locals to tourists) the newly-refurbished CULVER CITY filled with European-style sidewalk bars, restaurants, multiplex movie theater, and the intimate (Art Deco) Kirk Douglas Theater if you prefer drama. Have a drink in the historic Culver Hotel where the Munchkins slept and notoriously partied (hard) every night while filming The Wizard of Oz. (Ruby slippers optional.) You are 15 minutes, but usually less, from everywhere else whether it be the AIRPORT (want me to pick you up?), DOWNTOWN, WESTWOOD (UCLA), HOLLYWOOD, VENICE, or SANTA MONICA. Virtually all of LA's many museums and attractions are within easy reach.

"Pico/Roberson" is quiet, classy, eclectic and ethnically-diverse with small, intimate restaurants ranging from Thai to Vietnamese, Chinese (including Liz Taylor's favorite), Sushi, countless Kosher restaurants (including LA's first delicatessen), Kosher Mexican if you can believe that, authentic Mexican (duh!), French, Lebanese, bakeries galore, and even a hand-made ice cream and candy store. All are within walking distance. Elat, an unbelievable, multi-ethnic Middle-Eastern/Mediterranean supermarket is just up my street on Pico. A more basic Smart and Final supermarket is a five minute walk. Trader Joe's is five minutes away (by car) as is a more traditional Von's supermarket. Every Thursday, we have a terrific neighborhood Farmer's Market just a few blocks away featuring locally-grown produce.

On the other side of Robertson is La Cienega's "Restaurant Row." Dining/theater options are limitless. Within minutes, you are cruising the historic Fairfax District: Little Ethiopia, Farmers Market, and The Grove's Shopping/Dining/Theater Complex. Cantor's Deli! How about The Laugh Factory or The Comedy Store on the SUNSET STRIP? I am in the center of it all and for the most part you can avoid LA's notorious traffic by sticking to surface streets or rapid transit.

I am one short block from a major bus line and minutes from LA's new rapid transit rail system. Subways in LA? Who knew? An inexpensive "unlimited" day pass whisks you to USC and Exposition Park, Downtown, Hollywood, both the San Fernando and San Gabriel Valleys, Long Beach (The Queen Mary) and all parts in between. Don't miss the Watts Towers! Link to Central Station, another of LA's many magnificent Art Deco palaces, and catch a train to San Diego (short walk to Mexico), San Francisco, or even Portland and Seattle.

Or forget rapid transit and LA traffic entirely! Bring (or rent) a bicycle! I am one mile from the Ballona Creek bike path which carries you straight to Marina del Rey's beach bike paths south through the quaint coastal cities of Hermosa and Redondo Beach to the Palos Verdes Peninsula (and light house), or north through Venice and Santa Monica all the way to Pacific Palisades. Return to the Ballona Wetlands and allow the afternoon ocean breeze to push you all the way home. LA Fitness' premier workout facility (including large swimming pool, sauna, and jacuzzi) is four short blocks away.

I have traveled all over the world primarily by bicycle and stayed in countless pensions and hostels. This is my way of giving back. What goes around comes around. LA is perhaps the Art Deco capitol of the world. I was born here. May I show you?

Guest access

You have access to the entire house and all its facilities including living room, dining room, home theater, kitchen, laundry, garden in back, etc.

Interaction with guests

My job is to help you see as much of the best parts of the city possible in whatever time you have. So for some guests, that means helping them with "almost everything" as far as what they see and do. For others, they may say, "We want to see "this" and I will suggest two or three things they may not have considered that is on the way or on the way back. I may also suggest specific things to see and do when they are "there." Or I can keep entirely out of your way, if you prefer. This rarely happens, but if you have perhaps been to LA before and already "know everything", then enjoy my home. Occasionally, especially for those too young to rent a car, I even drive people places that cannot be seen or reached by bus or train. I've gone out to dinner with guests and we've had big barbeques in my back yard. Once I took a visitor all the way to Joshua Tree National Park and showed her my favorite trails to hike. But for extensive things like that, I have to charge you.

Other things to note

No matter how long you stay, you will wish you had more time. Everyone who leaves tells me this. There is much to see and do.

Randy is definitely a warm-hearted host. He is always ready to help things out and provide professional suggestion about travel plan in LA. He is also a good story-teller, sharing his interesting experience in a humorous manner. His place is clean and cozy. Sunshiny kitchen room, adorable back yard, clean bathroom and attractive living room with many movie collections are all gorgeous for Airbnb guests. I would stay in Randy's place again when I am back to LA someday. I also would recommend his place to my friends.

It's the 1st time I am traveling with Airbnb. I would like to say: what a smart choice! I really enjoy the 4 days that stayed in Randy's house. It's a different feeling compared to hotel. Everything is more convenient just like stay in my home. Randy is so nice and easy going. He gave me lots of good suggestions for the touring in LA. Really appreciate for waiting me to his house in the 1st day, taking me to the concert, making reservation for Getty Villa.... Of course, 4 nights is not enough for LA, I will come here again next time, and stay longer in Randy's home :)

Randy is a fantastic host and does everything he can to make you feel comfortable in his home and to help travelers navigate around the area. I was very busy with a class and didn't spend much time at the house, but I found the room, and house, to be clean and comfortable. I definitely recommend staying at Randy's place.

I am single and very easy going. I love music, particularly "world music", read The Atlantic pretty regularly, and am having fun with Netflix. I am (or at least was) a great world traveler. I've stayed in more hostels than you can count. In fact one day I'd like to run my own hostel in some enchanted corner of the world. Airbnb will be my " personal hotel/luxury hostel." Virtually all my traveling was done by bicycle between 14 and 17 miles per hour. Leaving the Alps from Southern Switzerland (St. Moritz) into Northern Italy (Milan)? A little faster. OK, a LOT faster.
