Beautiful contemporary conversion flat in handy city centre location - a mere 15 minutes walk from Glasgow's Style Mile, with excellent transport links (Train, Airport, Bus, Subway). Sharing with an arty actress with a passion for chatting!
2nd bedroom in a gorgeous ground floor conversion of an old hotel, you'll be in arty company. With brand new open plan living space and kitchen, contemporary bathroom with power shower and bath and just a twist of the unique and eclectic, you'll have all the comfort and commodities of home.
I'm a friendly Glasweigan (with a very soft accent, for those who are worried they won't understand me!) I offer a little slice of home from home and happy to chat about my city and make personalised recommendations.
We have a Morrison's superstore with excellent fresh fruit and veg just 5 minutes walk from the flat, and are served by both Aldi, Lidl and a range of local shops in Duke Street.
Being so near to the city, you can easily access Scotland's premiere shopping streets (20 minutes walk) or wander round the historic Merchant city (10 minutes walk).
Fresh double room with very comfortable bed, hanging space, reading light, local information brochures and black out curtains.
The flat has wifi throughout and I offer complimentary continental breakfast options
As much or as little as we like. I'm very chatty and happy to provide local knowledge, history and top tips for my beloved city.
I'll always offer a cup of tea, and sometimes there is wine or food. I've even occasionally been down the pub with my guests but be aware that I often work long hours from home or am scheduled to work away, so I may settle you in and retreat. :)
My neighbourhood is full of originality. From the awesome word sculptures & advertising inspired street art that flank my building, to the gothic prowess of the Victorian necropolis (graveyard) & impressive cooper-roofed cathedral, or perhaps the bustling Barras market & legendary gig venue -the Barrowland Ballroom, this area has got it going on. A mere 15 minutes walk from Glasgow's main shopping streets (known as the Style Mile), a leisurely 10 minute stroll to the funky Merchant City area, full of original bars, restaurants and coffee shops, with easy access to our circular subway system for the beautiful museums and sights of the West End, I'm excellently placed to welcome you.
A mere stone's throw from my building is the Cathedral complex - lovely walks available through the Cathedral grounds and the impressive Victorian Necropolis graveyard, a slice of history at the Provan Lordship (Glasgow oldest house) or an excellent tea and scone at the fabulous Musuem of Religious Life and Art. In the other direction is the Barras, home to the world famous Barrowland ballroom, the premiere concert venue in Glasgow, there is also market on Saturday and Sunday. The Barras gives way to Glasgow Green on the banks of the Clyde where you'll find the People's Palace musuem with it Victorian glasshouse and the local Glasgow microbrewery West, housed in the historic Templeton Carpet factory.
Glasgow is famous for it's nightlife culture - we have so many theatres, concerts, bars and restaurants and the renowned nightclub scene. If you like music, there are hundreds of vibrant and diverse choices, with world class pop, classical, indie, world and folk music. Glasgow is home to the Celtic Connections folk festival, Piping Live (the world pipe band championships) and we now add the enormous SECC Hydro venue to a long list of places to catch great events.
Glasgow has great transport links, it's really easy to get to my flat (via bus, train or plane) and the city centre location makes it an ideal pit stop if you're travelling on to other Scottish destinations.
TAXI: A Glasgow black taxi is much cheaper than London or even Edinburgh and we also have a range of private hire (mini-cab) companies that are cheaper again (and offer some fixed rate journeys, i.e. the airport run)
AIRPORT: My flat is 15 minutes walk from George Square (Glasgow Airport bus stop) and it takes between 20 minutes and 30 minutes to travel to Glasgow airport (traffic dependent). There are also nearby buses and trains to Prestwick International Airport
TRAIN: Queen's street station (overground and subway) is 15 mins walk. Glasgow Central station is a lovely 25 min walk, or a 7 min cab ride away. There are local buses running from outside the flat into the city centre and beyond.
WALKING: While in the city centre, I thoroughly recommend walking (even if it is raining) as most buildings are worth a second glance and the diversity of people watching is great.
My check-in policy, much like my attitude to life, is flexible.*
* What this means, in reality, is that I'm happy to negotiate when check in/out is happening. But please be aware that flexibility goes both ways and I occasionally have to offer fixed times due to work or family commitments. I'll always endeavour to accommodate you & try to understand that travelling doesn't always go to plan - if you think your going to be late (or early), please let me know as I may have made my plans around you.
Helen was the perfect host. She met us at her flat at the agreed upon time and was on hand to answer questions about the neighborhood. She also respected our privacy while making us feel very welcome. The location of the flat is perfect and is a short walk from the bus stop, train station, restaurants and Argyle St. We hope to stay with Helen again on our next trip to Glasgow
Helen s'est montrée très accueillante, attentive et sympathique. Son appartement se trouve à proximité du centre ville, bien au calme. A recommander.
Thanks, Helen! Lot of recommedantions for great places, wonderful host! The place itself offers all you need to stay in hip city of Glasgow.
Helen's small but cosy apartment was perfect for my one night stay - she was extremely friendly, and helpful in helping me get around Glasgow. Warmly recommended!
Awesome stay here, location is perfect, will definitely stay here again! A pity that we did not meet helen since she was away..
Helen was a wonderful host. The room was beautifully-made, with all the things a guest could need. She had great suggestions about things to explore in the city. Very easy to communicate with, very flexible - a pleasure to stay there. Ask her about the history of the building!
During my stay at Helen's house, I had every thing I need to feel comfortable. The flat is centrally located without too many frills, perfect for getting around Glasgow.
About Helen I can only say that she is very outgoing and friendly, so in a few words, my stay in Glasgow was even nicer than expected.
The place was great for the 3 of us. Plenty of room to relax inside after a day out. Just a short work to the city centre and Helen provided us with all the info we needed.
Hi, Helen. Nice to meet you.
We would like to thank you again for received our accommodation.
Your place is very comforatable and good location.
We 're loved your manual / your guidebook room.
It look like a artist paint picture.
Lovely appartment in quiet area, in walking distance of George Square, nicely equipped and spacious. When we arrived we discovered that breakfast was already taken care of with a great variety of toast, cheese, jams, cornflakes etc. which was a great surprise. Simple beds. We had a great time in Glasgow, meeting also friends and family of Helen's as the living room functions also as a kind of communal space.
