Interaction with Guests
As much or as little as we like. I'm very chatty and happy to provide local knowledge, history and top tips for my beloved city.
I'll always offer a cup of tea, and sometimes there is wine or food. I've even occasionally been down the pub with my guests but be aware that I often work long hours from home or am scheduled to work away, so I may settle you in and retreat. :)
My neighbourhood is full of originality. From the awesome word sculptures & advertising inspired street art that flank my building, to the gothic prowess of the Victorian necropolis (graveyard) & impressive copper-roofed cathedral, or perhaps the bustling Barras market & legendary gig venue -the Barrowland Ballroom, this area has got it going on. A mere 15 minutes walk from Glasgow's main shopping streets (known as the Style Mile), a leisurely 10 minute stroll to the funky Merchant City area, full of original bars, restaurants and coffee shops, with easy access to our circular subway system for the beautiful museums and sights of the West End, I'm excellently placed to welcome you.
We're in walking distance of three major supermarkets, and lots of local shops.
A mere stone's throw from my building is the Cathedral complex - lovely walks available through the Cathedral grounds and the impressive Victorian Necropolis graveyard, a slice of history at the Provan Lordship (Glasgow oldest house) or an excellent tea and scone at the fabulous Musuem of Religious Life and Art. In the other direction is the Barras, home to the world famous Barrowland ballroom, the premiere concert venue in Glasgow, there is also market on Saturday and Sunday. The Barras gives way to Glasgow Green on the banks of the Clyde where you'll find the People's Palace musuem with it Victorian glasshouse and the local Glasgow microbrewery West, housed in the historic Templeton Carpet factory.
Glasgow is famous for it's nightlife culture - we have so many theatres, concerts, bars and restaurants and the renowned nightclub scene. If you like music, there are hundreds of vibrant and diverse choices, with world class pop, classical, indie, world and folk music. Glasgow is home to the Celtic Connections folk festival, Piping Live (the world pipe band championships) and we now add the enormous SECC Hydro venue to a long list of places to catch great events.
Glasgow has great transport links, it's really easy to get to my flat (via bus, train or plane) and the city centre location makes it an ideal pit stop if you're travelling on to other Scottish destinations.
TAXI: A Glasgow black taxi is much cheaper than London or even Edinburgh and we also have a range of private hire (mini-cab) companies that are cheaper again (and offer some fixed rate journeys, i.e. the airport run)
AIRPORT: My flat is 15 minutes walk from George Square (Glasgow Airport bus stop) and it takes between 20 minutes and 30 minutes to travel to Glasgow airport (traffic dependent). There are also nearby buses and trains to Prestwick International Airport
TRAIN: Queen's street station (overground and subway) is 15 mins walk. Glasgow Central station is a lovely 25 min walk, or a 7 min cab ride away. There are local buses running from outside the flat into the city centre and beyond.
WALKING: While in the city centre, I thoroughly recommend walking (even if it is raining) as most buildings are worth a second glance and the diversity of people watching is great.
Other Things to Note
My check-in policy, much like my attitude to life, is flexible.*
* What this means, in reality, is that I'm happy to negotiate when check in/out is happening. But please be aware that flexibility goes both ways and I occasionally have to offer fixed times due to work or family commitments. I'll always endeavour to accommodate you & try to understand that travelling doesn't always go to plan - if you think your going to be late (or early), please let me know as I may have made my plans around you.
- This flat is non-smoking.
- I love meeting new people but please make me aware of anyone else who will be in the flat in addition to named guests - this is my home and I like to know who is in it.
- You are welcome to use the crockery/cutlery - please wash them and leave then in the sink drainer.
- I try to be environmentally friendly by turning off lights and plug sockets when not in use. It'd be fab if you could do the same.
- Please check with me if you need to use the washing machine.
- Ultimately, this is a very chilled out flat, so be welcome!
My first Airbnb experience with Helen was perfect. The room was tidy and clean, I had access to all the things I need, hot shower, heating, and a big supermarket nearby. Since it's my first week starting work in Glasgow, it's always nice to see Helen after work and chat for a while. She is a very 'chatty' person (compliment;)) and welcomes me in the kitchen but also understands that is I sometimes like to stay quiet in my room after an exhausted day. It was an interesting experience, and I look forward meeting her in the city again in the future.
Helen was amazing. Her flat, her friends, her recommendations were wonderful. The flat was convenient to everything in the city centre and the walk wasn't long to and from. We were a party of three, and I felt at home and at ease here. I can't recommend her enough to everyone. This is a must stay place to stay if you're going to come to Glasgow to explore
I spend 5 nights in Helens appartement and I felt great and comfy. Helen is a very friendly, helpful and open-minded person. The room is nice and quiet. The appartment is close to the city center and subway station. I can hardly recomend this place to everyone visiting Glasgow.
Helen's place is lovely and is a 20 min walk from Glasgow central station (tested by making a frantic walk to catch a train). Helen left very clear and easy instructions on how to find the flat and a very handy handbook for while you are there. Helen is a wonderful host. She's very friendly and knowledgeable about the area and has very interesting stories.
Helen was really nice with us! The appartment is well located, 10-15 minutes walk from the city center!
Glasgow is really a marvellous city and my staying at Helen's apartment was the best choice to enjoy this city. Helen is very kind and nice in welcoming me and my siblings, providing us everything we needed as well as giving us very good advice on what to see and what to do in Glasgow. We hope to come back soon in Glasgow and stay at Helen's once more.

About the Host, Helen
Glasweigan actor, sometimes working in Edinburgh and London. Relaxed, happy and arty, I look forward to welcoming you into my home. I'm up for chatting, sharing food and a glass of wine (subject to my work load!), but equally happy to leave you to your space and quietly get on with it. This is no party flat by any stretch of the imagination, but I think you will feel welcome here.
