The space

Elegant home, built in 1875, with stunning hardwood floors, vintage details and tasteful, modern furnishings, located near downtown Brunswick and Bowdoin College. 3 bedrooms, 2 full baths (one with claw foot tub and overhead shower and the second recently remodeled and featuring a spacious step-in tiled shower). Queen in one room, full in another and a twin with trundle in the third bedroom (ideal for children). Formal living room as well as family room -- a family of 6 could stay here easily without getting in each other's way. Large country kitchen with dishwasher, sunny breakfast bar and way too much gourmet equipment. A full dining room with a table that seats 8 comfortably.

Available for long weekends in July and week long rentals in August. Ask about other dates, including Bowdoin Commencement and Parents' weekends.

Just off Rte 1 and close to beaches and the islands of Casco Bay.

Walk to downtown Brunswick in 5 minutes to enjoy wonderful restaurants, cute shops, supermarket, library, farmer's market, an antique mart and local movie theater, as well as the Maine State Music Theater.

A 5 minute walk to Amtrak's Downeaster or the Concord Coach (we're close enough to hear the train's whistle).

Relax on the deck, enjoy the blooming flower beds and vegetable gardens (which will be bountiful in July and August) or read in the peaceful wooded back yard. The perfect base for a family or group of friends who want to experience summer in Maine.

Sheets and bedding will be provided and the beds will be made up when you arrive--I ask that you strip the beds and put the sheets in the laundry room when you are leaving. The kitchen is not glamorous, but I have gorgeous pots and pans, Kitchen Aide, ice cream maker, Cusinart, everything a gourmet cook needs (well, the stove is basic) and you are welcome to use although damage will be deducted from a security deposit. Mary's home was just incredible, and perfect for out trip to visit our son at Bowdoin. It had all of the amenities and charm of a beautiful New England home. Mary is wonderful at communication, and I hope to stay at her home again.

We had a wonderful time this weekend, Mary's home was exactly what we were looking for! We fit 5 adults quite comfortably and there was definitely room for 1 more. We were very grateful for all of her helpful hints about the town and where to go, only wish we had more time to discover Brunswick!

My friends and I chose Mary's house as our home base during our 10-year reunion at nearby Bowdoin College. The house is beautiful - spacious and airy with great decorations and lots of space for hanging out. We were able to walk to campus and downtown Brunswick each day and really enjoyed coming home to a quiet neighborhood each night. Highly recommend!

Mary's house is a treat and Mary herself is lovely and highly informative/helpful/communicative. The house is huge - there was more than enough room for the 6 of us and we had fun playing board games on the big dining room table. It was a quick walk into downtown Brunswick and about 15 min walk to the center of Bowdoin's campus so the location was ideal. The house is full of New England charm - we'll definitely stay again if we're (hopefully) back in Brunswick in the future!

We spend three nights at Mary's house while we visited friends and relatives in the region. The house really is spacious and full of lovely things and yes, LOTS of books! It is in a residential neighborhood not right in downtown Brunswick.... a few minutes drive. Downtown Brunswick has a nice Maine Street with restaurants and cafes. It was a good location for us. The house is an old house and it's big! Nice furniture, paintings, big windows. Many pretty things to admire but doesn't feel too precious. You feel like you know Mary or wished you knew Mary. Very homey. Good beds, dishwasher, washer and dryer. Everything we needed. Thanks, Mary!

For heavens sake don't bring any books with you on vacation! This house is so completely stocked with every book you'll ever want to read we thought about staying another night just to finish a chapter or two. Great selection of games as well. Incredibly accommodating host and thorough home instructions. Very easy to stroll into town but you are off the main drag and so parking was a breeze. Absolutely great house. Very large and comfortable while being cozy and comfortable. Wonderfully funky and original decor and architecture. Wish it had been nicer weather so as to enjoy the outdoor fire pit and back and front porches but there's is even a cozy fire place inside! Thanks very much Mary!

Writer with flexible schedule looking to rent her big beautiful Maine house for a few weeks in the summer while I am away at writing retreats and on vacation. Also will consider house swaps (do you live in LA? The Bay Area? Let's talk!) I can't do without great movies, good books (there are so many in my house; don't worry if you forget to pack your Kindle) and wonderful food. I wish I had an updated, gorgeous kitchen, but I promise you, my utilitarian country kitchen contains every little thing you need, from lemon zester to cookbooks to muffin pans and Le Creuset Dutch Ovens...
