Interaction with guests
We have lived in Cockermouth for more than 30 years and have a good knowledge of the best local restaurants, real ale pubs, shopping, attractions, walks etc. We will be on hand to see to your comfort and answer any questions you might have during your stay.
If you want to chat with us over meals we are happy to do that but if you just want to "chill" that is fine too.
We are gay and lesbian friendly.

Cockermouth itself is a lovely, friendly little market town on the NW edge of the Lake District. It has many real ale pubs, good coffee shops and restaurants as well as a wide variety of interesting independent shops in which to browse. Our home is 12- 15 minutes pleasant walk or 5 minutes drive from the centre.
There is no necessity to have a car if you chose to stay with us. The best rail stations to reach us are either Carlisle (bus service 600) or Penrith (bus service X4/X5). You can catch buses from either directly to Cockermouth. (Takes 50 mins or 1hr 50 respectively)
From the centre of this small town you can walk to our B+B in 15 minutes or get a taxi.
If you want to go further into the Lakes you can catch a bus to Keswick (25 minutes away) and from there travel to any of the towns or beauty spots you want to visit.

Other things to note
If you enjoy meeting the locals and sampling the food of the area you are visiting you are in for a treat. You will have seen from the guest reviews that I am an enthusiastic cook. Every few months I throw open my home for the evening to a group of up to 10 diners. Everyone shares a single table and enjoys a fabulous 5-course meal using organic Cumbrian food and good conversation or, as we say in Cumbria, good "craic" for only £25 per person. (Bring your own wine). Most of the dishes are shared so you can eat as much or as little as you like and vegetarians are welcome.
The next meal will be on: Saturday 22nd April 2017.
I will be creating a delicious feast of spring dishes using (mostly) organic Cumbrian produce.
Do contact me if you would like further information or look on-line for my website "Briar Bank Home Supper Club." Also, If you are staying with Airbnb in the area and would like to make a booking for the supper club please get in touch and we will do our best to find you a place at the table.
We are offering half-day guided walks in the lovely Buttermere valley tailored to meet your preference and ability. With Sharon's husband Richard as your knowledgeable guide, this is your chance to get 'off the beaten track' a little and discover the hidden Lakeland which most visitors miss. Experience the landscape, culture and wildlife of the National Park at close quarters. The price, which includes transport and a home-made snack, is £20 for a single person, £30 for a couple or £40 for a threesome. Unmissable!
