About This Listing
Cabin at jungle's edge in a tropical orchard, close to surf and center of Pavones. Great wildlife watching from the hammock on your porch.
Screened BR with double bed, loft with 2 single beds (mosquito nets), private bath, living room, kitchenett
The Jungle Deluxe cabin's openness makes it ideal for observing wildlife. However, since kitchen/living room are not screened in, the occasional bird or bat will fly through and at night some bugs will come to the lights, mainly moths, beetles or grasshoppers. There also is a large resident gecko that tries to catch them. There are few mosquitoes. A little bit of an adventure spirit is required to fully enjoy the place.
The kitchen is equipped with fridge (3 foot tall), 3 burner stove top, pots, dishes, etc.
Bedroom and bath are fully screened, beds in the loft have mosquito nets.
Panoramic views of the Golfo Dulce and surf break from the hilltop of Mira Olas' 11 acres. A tropical fruit orchard surrounds the cabin. The Rio Claro with its' crystal clear, refreshing pools borders the property.
Interaction with Guests
Your host Elisabeth "Lili" Romano has been living in Pavones for 25 years and is available for questions and a tour of the orchard.
Our location combines the best of both worlds in Pavones: We are at the edge of town on 11 acres of land – mostly jungle - where you get to watch birds, monkeys, the occasional sloth and anteater as well as enjoy tranquility and privacy. At the same time you're only a five to ten minute walk from Pavones' famous surfbreak and the center of town, restaurants, stores, etc.
Lili was an excellent host and provided a great stay in her jungle cabin. This was my first time in Costa Rica, and I took a chance to stay somewhere off the beaten path, and I am very very pleased with what Lili had to offer. I will note this cabin is not for the squeamish :) seeing as the local geckos and anoles will be your roommates while staying here. There is also no hot water. This however did not bother my boyfriend and I, it was all a part of the experience. On a daily, Lili brought delicious fresh fruit grown on her property. She provided a booklet with all of the local "to dos," what to explore and what to avoid. She answered any and all of the questions we had. If you needed anything she was truly available to help, even offering her phone service and wifi options for very reasonable fees.
Almost every day my boyfriend and I stopped for food or a beer in the Jolly Roger which was literally in the driveway of Mira Olas, and we enjoyed walking to the Rio Claro to cool off. There is a lot to explore in the village of Pavones, and I would have loved to spend more time there getting to know the people and maybe attempting to surf ;) With that being said, my boyfriend and I don't surf and even we found plenty to do! We took a local boat across to Matapalo, and I could have died and gone to heaven :) Very secluded, luscious green trees, beautiful swimmable beaches, we saw monkeys, toucans, macaws, giant iguanas and swam in a small cool waterfall pool.
Needless to say my boyfriend and I were beyond pleased with out stay in Lili's Jungle Cabin and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a remote stay in the beautiful Costa Rica surfer or not !
Elisabeth's Pavones apt/home is such a fantastic piece of property, and it was a great way to experience a more remote side of Costa Rica. It is secluded, unique, and in my dictionary upscale (I am typically camping when on vacation). It was nice being on the outskirts of Pavones, the surrounding area is teeming with life, and the fruit orchard surrounding the property made eating a slight adventure. Very close too the beach and a trail that offers a great view of the sunset and access to a river.
Elisabeth is super nice and very helpful...helpful enough to show me how to clean a fish from the local market.
Casita y legar muy hermoso en contacto con la naturaleza. casa limpia y ordenada, aunque se ha informado de que no hay agua caliente. Marcha por la tabla de surf
