About This Listing
Experience authentic, Balinese life. The Payogan Homestay Villa is located within our traditional, Balinese family compound, a 20 minute walk away from Ubud. The villa is spacious, in the traditional Balinese style. Situated at the back of the compound, overlooking a rice field and tropical plantation, the villa offers more privacy and space. However, you will still wake up to the traditional sounds of Bali and experience the essence of staying in a Balinese village.
The space includes a full kitchen and dining room, three bedrooms, an indoor living space, and a large terrace. The open-air bathroom includes a tub and shower with hot water only a turn-of-a-tap away.
Living in a Balinese family compound means that you will have many friendly, neighbors. The compound is home to a large extended family, all of whom are very involved in traditional Balinese life, and committed to our village ceremonies, many of which take place in our family temple. We welcome you to participate if you choose. In fact, we encourage our guests to join us to get the true feeling of Balinese culture. We can always help you through the experience and provide the traditional wear.

Ketut is an exceptionally good host. He took care of us from the time we landed until we left. He also took us on tours around Bali, he is a very knowledgeable tour guide and showed us some beautiful landscapes. He also gave us good recommendations for places to visit, to eat and to go to after our stay in Ubud.
The villa is at the end of a family complex of houses situated in lush gardens that overlooks nature, with only trees and rice fields in front. We were 4 traveling together. The accommodation was spacious and comfortable with a beautiful verandah in the front on which we sat every morning and evening talking. The villa is very private.
Overall it was extremely good value for money and Ketut made our stay in Ubud memorable.
the house is beautiful,me and my friends like it very much,we had a very relax time there
they also offer us free breakfast and very good price to use the car to look around.
next time if we have a longer time,we will stay here again
Our family of four - including a 3 year old and seven month old - had a truly wonderful time staying in Ketut's family compound. From the moment we were picked up at the airport in the middle of the night - thanks Wayan - followed by a scrumptious complimentary breakfast on the first morning - until we left a week later (and Ketut arranged a free transfer to the other side of Ubud, many thanks!) - we felt so generously welcomed into the life of this family. Payogan is a perfect place to stay, offering a true sense of village life, meandering lanes, rice fields, tasty warungs within a few minutes walk - but within walking distance to Ubud (and we were hefting two kids!). We were fortunate to be staying during the build up to Nyepi, Balinese new year, and Ketut made sure we were a part of this special time - ceremonies at the temple, monstrous demons in the street, and then a day of silence shared with the family (though not the fasting, Bu Wayan cooked us a delicious Balinese feast). Our three year old had the time of her life playing with Ketut's niece who also lived in the compound. The villa worked well for us, two downstairs rooms for the kids, and a spacious bed upstairs for us, all with mosquito nets. Nights were cool, no need for air-con. We opened the windows wide to drifting sounds of gamelan, and (very) early morning rooster wake-ups!
Abundant thanks to Ketut, Bu Wayan, Made, Wayan and Abbie wants to give a special thanks to Aura for all the fun! We would certainly love to return to Payogan Homestay.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay with Ketut at his wonderful homestay. So much so we increased our 2 night booking to 4. Ketut and his family went above and beyond to meet our needs, whether it be arranging a volcano climb, organising transport or popping out to get us Bintang, nothing was too much.
On our first night Ketut arranged for his wife to cook us a traditional Ballinese meal which was beyond delicious and was just what we needed after a long day travelling.
Ketuts niece is a trained masseuse so we all had a massage in the comfort of our own room on our second day. My boyfriend and I had a second the day after, it was that good.
The entire family were extremely welcoming and friendly. If and when we return to Ubud there is nowhere we would rather stay than with Ketut. 10/10.

My family stayed in Ketut's Villa for 5 nights during the Lunar New Year holidays. It was our first "real" Bali experience and we enjoyed every moment. Ketut and his family were very friendly and gracious hosts. Ketut arranged for pick up to and from the airport. A delicious breakfast of banana pancake, omelette and fresh fruit is available for a small fee. Ketut is a tour guide so we left a list of things we wanted to see and he arranged the day for us which included a traditional Balinese dance performance, a spectacular waterfall, rice terraces, temples and the Setia Darma House of Mask and Puppets.
The villa was large enough for all 4 of us with room to spare. The place was clean and the outdoor bathroom was a treat. You can cook there if you wish, but there are plenty of cheap eating houses (warungs) nearby.
If you want to experience the real Bali the this is the place to stay. Just be aware that this is a small farm, and you will be woken up by the sounds of roosters crowing very early in the morning, along with ducks, geese, dogs and pigs. But that is all part of the charm.
Our stay at Payogan Homestay was absolutely fantastic. Ketut was so friendly and helpful during our stay that we all want to go back and stay again. Ketut took us out for 2 days of touring around and gave us great insight into Balinese life and culture. He tour was tailored to sights - not shops - except for the ones we specifically requested to go to. His sons were also very helpful - getting us dressed and prepared for a ceremony at the village's temple. Ketut's wife also cooked us the most delicious breakfast of our trip - definitely worth paying the nominal fee to eat her food!
The villa is about a 45 minute walk from the centre of Ubud, but since Ubud is a bit sprawling, there are still plenty of restaurants and things to do within the immediate vicinity. The villa is pretty simple - not your typical glamorous Bali private villa - but it was cozy and comfortable nonetheless. The outdoor shower was the best part.
One thing of note: Payogan is a real Bali village and there are lots of animals. Roosters and dogs in particular were making noise all night long which made sleep a bit difficult without ear plugs... so definitely bring ear plugs!
Overall, I think Payogan Homestay represents the excellent value for money and I will definitely stay there again on my next visit to Bali! Thank you, Ketut!
