The space

Experience authentic, Balinese life. The Payogan Homestay is located within our traditional, Balinese family compound, a 20 minute walk away from Ubud. The room is spacious, with a clean and contemporary style, a beautiful space complemented with Balinese accents. You will wake up to the traditional sounds of Bali and experience the essence of staying in a Balinese village. This listing is for the upstairs room.

The space includes a large bedroom, an attached living space, a large balcony, and a private bathroom. There is a small cooking station on the main floor. Should you wish to stay for a longer period, we can provide a stove and other cooking equipment. The open-air bathroom includes a shower with hot water only a turn-of-a-tap away.

Living in a Balinese family compound means that you will have many friendly, neighbors. The compound is home to a large extended family, all of whom are very involved in traditional Balinese life, and committed to our village ceremonies. Many of these ceremonies also take place in the family temple which is in the middle of the compound. We welcome you to participate if you choose. In fact, we encourage our guests to join us to get the true feeling of Balinese culture. We can always help you through the experience and provide the traditional wear. We can also introduce you to some local craftspeople if you're interested in Balinese art and clothing.

As a licensed tour guide by profession, I can provide custom guided tours according to your interests and needs. We also provide airport transfer and local transportation at a very reasonable rate - we are only a call away.

Other highlights:
- Longer stays enjoy a significantly reduced room rate.
- Breakfast and/or other meals can be provided on request for minimal cost.
- We can arrange laundry pick-up and delivery at very reasonable rates.

If there's anything else you need, just ask. We want you to have a memorable stay in Bali with our family.

Ketut's place is marvellous--spacious, peaceful and a short walk to some good restaurants. I stayed for 3 days and was a bit worried that I would run out of things to do in the village, but Ketut was a kind and generous host who's eager to show guests the culture of Bali--he took me to temples, festivals and parades, and his wife prepared a lovely breakfast every morning. I left wishing I had stayed longer!

So lovely to spend our first week in Bali in the blissful, spacious bedroom.! With open windows to a lush garden, and own private patio, it's quite the relaxing nook.** This location is perfect, as it's peaceful & away from the hustle bustle of downtown Ubud (yet still close), and a quick jaunt away on motorbike from jungle back roads to Tagellang rice fields and thorough beautiful villages. Ketut and his family were so helpful and friendly, such sweethearts! A GEM of an Airb&b, we'll definitely be back. Oh, and the banana pancakes in the morning are to die for <3

This was a marvellous place to stay. Ketut and his family were very welcoming, and the room was much bigger than we expected -- clean, comfortable and spacious. We had a nice time hanging out here and felt like part of the family. We hope to come back here next year.

It was a great experience with Ketut and his family. They are extremely helpful about everything. We arrived after midnight but Ketut's cousin picked us up and Ketut waited for our arrival until 2am. If you choose this room, it means you don't need to worry much about your trip in Ubud because you can always talk with Ketut and he will give you the best idea with a nice driver. The room was big and clean, with a nice balcony. And there was room clean everyday.

Ketut Mendra was an amazing host and I'm so happy he was my first impression of Bali! his driver picked me up at the airport and he was always there to recommend places to visit and see, arrange my fast boat to Nusa Lembogan when I left and made the most delicious banana pancakes with shaved coconut each morning. the room was stunning and perfect. I used the balcony each morning for some simple yoga postures and each night to write. Ketut also ordered me the most delicious local vegetarian food when I was too tired to walk after travel or sightseeing. I will definitely recommend that anyone coming to Bali stay with him and his wonderful family.

Ketut and his family are amazing. The room is better than in the pictures. It's open and gives you an impression you are sleeping outside, with bird signing in the morning. After you wake up you get DELICIOUS pancakes. For them alone, I'd live there all year round. The kids, the adults and the animals around are great. I bought beautiful art from Ketut's brother. We liked the room so much, we stayed there half the day instead of going to Ubud. But when we were finally ready, there was a scooter and it was a great experience, too! If you stay with Ketut make sure you eat at the Elephant: coconut noodle soup. Yum!
