Experience authentic, Balinese life. The Payogan Homestay is located within our traditional, Balinese family compound, a 20 minute walk away from Ubud. The room is spacious, with a clean and contemporary style, a beautiful space complemented with Balinese accents. You will wake up to the traditional sounds of Bali and experience the essence of staying in a Balinese village. This listing is for the upstairs room.
The space includes a large bedroom, an attached living space, a large balcony, and a private bathroom. There is a small cooking station on the main floor. Should you wish to stay for a longer period, we can provide a stove and other cooking equipment. The open-air bathroom includes a shower with hot water only a turn-of-a-tap away.
Living in a Balinese family compound means that you will have many friendly, neighbors. The compound is home to a large extended family, all of whom are very involved in traditional Balinese life, and committed to our village ceremonies. Many of these ceremonies also take place in the family temple which is in the middle of the compound. We welcome you to participate if you choose. In fact, we encourage our guests to join us to get the true feeling of Balinese culture. We can always help you through the experience and provide the traditional wear. We can also introduce you to some local craftspeople if you're interested in Balinese art and clothing.

I had a great experience at Ketut's, firstly with the transfer organised from the airport, I was met by Ketut's son. This was a good way to start my trip particularly as it was my first time in Bali and Ubud.
The room was exactly as described, I had the top floor as in this picture, it was lovely and very clean. There is also an AirBNB room beneath you which made me feel more comfortable as a lone traveller, however I generally felt safe in the compound and everyone was very friendly residents and customers alike.
The breakfast was good providing fruit, omelette and banana pancakes and as much black coffee as you can manage throughout your stay!
Ketut is a great host and nothing is too much trouble to arrange at a descent price.
Ketut was a wonderful host who was willing to help us in every way. From arranging taxis to pick us up from the airport, to personally taking us on a guided tour around Ubud and surrounding areas which included the volcano, the water temple and an incredible coffee plantation. The room was beautiful, clean and really lovely to stay in. The breakfast is delicious and even when one of us wasn't well they helped cater to our needs. If you don't mind the sounds of nature at night (which are easy to get used to) then this is definitely a great place to stay if you're visiting Ubud.
Our host Ketut and his family were very welcoming; All made certain that our stay was pleasant. The room was beautiful and very clean. The breakfast was generous and delicious. Ketut suggested many activities for us, one being the wedding of his nephew, taking place at his home stay. It was an honour to be part of the event. Ketut Homesaty is a good 45 minute walk from Ubud Center. The taxi comes up to about 6 USD one way; although not very expensive, it does add up. I would definitely recommend this place to anybody who wants a more personal and cultural experience of Bali.
I had such an excellent, enjoyable, comfortable stay here and I very much would recommend this place to anyone. Ketut is so kind and caring, as is his family. The breakfast is delicious. There's also a mini fridge where I kept snacks and beverages to take with me for my day trips. It's not too far from Ubud and was easy to get around / go on adventures from there. I actually miss this place! If I ever go back to Bali I will surely pass through here again!
Probably the best place you should start with when in Bali because this is where the real Balinese exist. Pak Ketut has taken care of us well. Has allow us to be part of his family. On our first day we were invited to join his family for a proposal ceremony. We were so welcomed that its almost hard to dislike this place. Don't let me start ranting about the daily breakfast we have. That could probably be the best we ever had in Bali. We hope to come back soon when time permits. Missing Bali way too much already and the hospitality of Pak Ketut family. This beautiful home will always be a part of us.
I had a great 1st time experience in Bali, and a lot of it had to do with my choice of staying here with Ketut and his family. Ketut accommodated my needs, including having some shopping items delivered to my final hotel in Sanur (I made a side trip outside of Bali). The photos and other reviews of the room are spot on, so I have nothing to add. Payogan is located outside of central Ubud. Walking downhill into town is not so bad, and you can detour onto a trail through the rice paddies. Along the way, there are some of Ubud's best restaurants and warungs, Bintang Supermarket, and the Neka Art Museum. Coming back up at the end of the day, you'll probably want to hire a taxi for 50k IDR, especially after dark. Also, you will not regret arranging day tours with Ketut, his other family business.
We loved our stay with Ketut and his family. We only stayed one night, but we felt right at home. We saw how the women of his family would make offerings in different parts of the house. His family gamely talked to us, had pictures with us, and talked about their regular routine.
He has a beautiful home. There is one dining area where the other travelers converge. We had a great conversation with other travelers that morning.
Of course, Ketut's pancake is to-die for. You have to order it at least once.
We also took Ketut as our guide. His English is okay and he adjusted according to our schedule. We would come back and stay here again, if we find ourselves back in Ubud.
Note that there is no A/C in the room, but Ubud is colder than other parts of Bali. The mountain breeze is comfortable. It was so comfortable that my companion chose to sleep in the verandah rather than on the bed!
