Experience authentic, Balinese life. The Payogan Homestay is located within our traditional, Balinese family compound, a 20 minute walk away from Ubud. The room is spacious, with a clean and contemporary style, a beautiful space complemented with Balinese accents. You will wake up to the traditional sounds of Bali and experience the essence of staying in a Balinese village. This listing is for the downstairs room.
The space includes a large bedroom, an attached living space, a kitchenette, and a private bathroom. Should you wish to stay for a longer period, we can provide a stove and other cooking equipment. The large open-air bathroom includes a tub and shower with hot water only a turn-of-a-tap away.
Living in a balinese family compound means that you will have many friendly, neighbors. The compound is home to a large extended family, all of whom are very involved in traditional Balinese life, and committed to our village ceremonies. Many of these ceremonies also take place in the family temple which is in the middle of the compound. We welcome you to participate if you choose. In fact, we encourage our guests to join us to get the true feeling of Balinese culture. We can always help you through the experience and provide the traditional wear. We can also introduce you to some local craftspeople if you're interested in Balinese art and clothing.

Family, secure, BEAUTIFUL, and my third home. So to start with the actual homestay...it is just add the pictures show, very clean, very comfortable and felt like home. It's within a compound so that makes it even better. Very BEAUTIFUL lush green surroundings. My hosts... they are now my family I miss then tremendously. I was treated with care each day. From the best breakfast I've ever tasted to making sure I got where I needed to go, being equipped with the information I needed, immersing me into the culture. They simply supplied everything and always did it with a smile and genuine heart. I was able to experience authentic Balinese culture and traditions. It's within the rural area so that's a great plus because the city is just a few minutes up the street. I think it is an amazing price for all that you are getting. I traveled alone and never once felt unsecured knowing that I was staying with Ketut and the family. Highly recommended! I truly miss them, starting crying days before I left. There is no doubt where my home is in Bali, it's at Payogan Homestay. Go there, you'll see just what I'm talking about, it's an experience like no other. You can't get this from a hotel our from someone who is just trying to make a few bucks.
Ketut was a wonderful host, we felt very welcome and safe during our stay. The compound is beautiful and the room is as pictured. Ketut runs the compound with his family and 2 sons, so it has a lovely feel. We never locked our doors and felt very safe (being 2 female travellers). The place itself is a little walk out of central Ubud (might take roughly half an hour) but we often got lifts into town with Ketut's son, or you can easily borrow a motorbike. Would recommend this place to friends and family.
Staying with Ketut and his family was one of the best parts of my tour of SE Asia. Ketut's entire family was so welcoming and informative. Both of his sons were helpful in taking us places or arranging tours. His wife makes the most delicious breakfast (I miss it), and we also got to have a traditional Balinese BBQ with them that was equally as great. Whenever I am back in Bali there is no question that I will be staying and visiting with Ketut and his family again.
Ketut was a very welcoming host. We were able to check straight into our room which was very spacious, clean, tidy and comfortable. Payogan is a very peaceful place with a lovely outside seating area to enjoy the garden. The breakfasts are delicious. The best banana pancakes we have ever had.
Great room in a family compound. Spacious, clean, relaxed atmosphere. Ketut and is family are very helpful and welcoming.
If you do not care to be close to Ubud center and don't mind hiring a taxi/bike each time you want to get there, it's a perfect place for you.
It's great value for what it is (cleanliness, size of the room), but a little pricey if you consider the location.
Ketut and his family are absolutely amazing. They instantly and consistently treated me like family. My first morning, I opened my door and heard Ketut say, "Good Morning, Kristel. Are you hungry?" I mean really!?! How amazing. The breakfast was great and everyday it was served with kindness and within minutes of me stepping out of my amazing room.
The compound is something out of this world. I've never seen so many plants and trees in my life! It was such a joy walking throughout the compound. I slept great and woke up with a beautiful view out of each of my TWENTY windows!
I felt so welcomed as a solo female traveller and super safe. I never even locked my door when I left, with Ketut and his family...I really didn't have to.
Ubud is a bit of a walk from the compound and thank God it is! It's so hectic in the town center. My Bali was the serene beauty captured by Ketut and his family. Have him take you to his friend's rice terraces they are remarkable. Ketut and his family are my Bali and I truly miss them. Saying goodbye was so hard, I cried as if I was leaving family. I cannot wait to get back to Payogan and see my family! I will definitely be back. I documented my stay on my Instagram: Littlemsjetsetter.
