The Space

Experience authentic, Balinese life. The Payogan Homestay is located within our traditional, Balinese family compound, a 20 minute walk away from Ubud. The room is spacious, with a clean and contemporary style, a beautiful space complemented with Balinese accents. You will wake up to the traditional sounds of Bali and experience the essence of staying in a Balinese village. This listing is for the downstairs room.

The space includes a large bedroom, an attached living space, a kitchenette, and a private bathroom. Should you wish to stay for a longer period, we can provide a stove and other cooking equipment. The large open-air bathroom includes a tub and shower with hot water only a turn-of-a-tap away.

Living in a balinese family compound means that you will have many friendly, neighbors. The compound is home to a large extended family, all of whom are very involved in traditional Balinese life, and committed to our village ceremonies. Many of these ceremonies also take place in the family temple which is in the middle of the compound. We welcome you to participate if you choose. In fact, we encourage our guests to join us to get the true feeling of Balinese culture. We can always help you through the experience and provide the traditional wear. We can also introduce you to some local craftspeople if you're interested in Balinese art and clothing.

As a licensed tour guide by profession, I can provide custom guided tours according to your interests and needs. We also provide airport transfer and local transportation at a very reasonable rate - we are only a call away.

Other highlights:
- Longer stays enjoy a significantly reduced room rate.
- Breakfast and/or other meals can be provided on request for minimal cost.
- We can arrange laundry pick-up and delivery at very reasonable rates.

If there's anything else you need, just ask. We want you to have a memorable stay in Bali with our family.

  • Ketut and his family are so wonderful. Ketut and his sons were always around (and smiling) to chat with us, give recommendations about the area and book us tours, cooking classes, etc. The place itself is gorgeous, with a massive balcony, mini fridge and really comfortable beds. Ketut's wife made us an awesome breakfast of Balinese pancakes, omelets and tons of fruit.

Just be aware that the place is at least 30 minutes walking from downtown Ubud or cabs we're around $5 one way.

Overall a lovely experience made so by the awesome host and his family home. Would definitely come back!

  • My sister & I loved our stay with Ketut & his family! It was a unique experience to stay on his family compound & while you are in close proximity with their residences, it is also very private. The design is lovely. It's a huge open plan room- very clean- and has a kitchenette with fridge & kettle. Wifi worked very well.

The breakfast was incredible and anything we needed was organised for us by Ketut (who is a very helpful, knowledgeable, interesting & happy host). Loved the rooster wake up in the morning. It was not too noisy at all (especially compared with Gili T)!

You get a real personal experience staying with Ketut & his extended family. Also nice to be out of the busy Ubud centre. We would definitely recommend it to people & stay again. Thanks Ketut- hope to see you soon!

  • Me and my partner stayed in Ketut's homestay for 2 night during Kuningan Day and we willing to joint Kuningan festival. Ketut help us to dress up a Balinese traditional uniform and guild us where we should go.

The room is actually much bigger than i thought and clean. There is no need to turn on the fan when it's so windy with nice air and environment.

Ketut has hospitality heart and i can tell you that i truly satisfy for his homestay.

  • My husband & I recently stayed at Payogan Homestay for 5 nights with the intention of learning more about the Balinese culture. Our experience with Ketut & his family was everything we had hoped for. The accommodation was wonderful, exactly as the photos indicated and Ketut and his family were the perfect hosts - always happy & obliging. Ketut was always willing to share his knowledge and offer suggestions for day trips, restaurants etc and also organised our driver for these outings when needed. We shared many conversations and laughs, not only with Ketut & his extended family but also with other travellers staying in the family compound. Staying at Payogan Homestay was definitely a highlight of our holiday & without a doubt we will return the next time we visit Bali :) I would highly recommend staying here, if you are considering a homestay experience.

  • We stayed here for 3 nights. If you're looking for a great homestay in Ubud, look no further. Ketut and his entire family helped us with everything - motorbikes, daytrips, taxis, restaurants, phone calls. They are all so nice and honest. After our flight landed late the first night, there was very heavy rain, so ketut and his wife brought us some beer and arranged for a restaurant to deliver dinner to our bungalow. True hospitality. We booked the day before arriving, and Ketut replied to all of my emails very quickly. The breakfast (especially banana pacakes) is amazing. Great coffee. Great location for seeing Ubud and beautiful property with many rice fields around. Restaurants very closeby. Strong airconditioning. The room was in nice condition and cleaned daily. If I am back in Bali, I will definitely stay here! Highly recommended!

  • My stay at Payogan home stay with Ketut and his family was wonderful. The stay was an experience that a hotel couldn't offer. I got a real Balinese experience as I was invited to attend a Hindu cremation ceremony, motorbike ride with Ketut to get local diner at a nearby warung and have great conversations about the Balinese way of life. I spent a lot of time with Ketut's sister, Nyoman, who took me under her wing and introduced me to the neighbors in the village.

As for the room, it was great as well. It was clean with lots of space and light.

*One thing to note is that if you are a light sleeper you may find quiet to be an issue. There are animals (dogs and roosters) that make lots of noise sometimes throughout the night and early mornings.

  • I had a wonderful stay at the compound. The family was very friendly, the room was extremely clean and comfortable and Ketut was very helpful (email hidden) and gracious host. The location was only ten minutes from the center of Ubud, which was nice to be out of the hustle and bustle of the city. As a solo woman traveler I felt completely comfortable staying here and I would recommend this to anyone looking for an adventure in Bali and amazing place to stay!
