My son, husband and I recently stayed in this apartment for a week located at 586 Union in Brooklyn. We really felt that it was a perfect accommodation for us during our visit to Brooklyn, and we feel that the convenience and comfortableness of the apartment added considerably to our very happy vacation time.
It was very nice to have access to extra sheets and/or towels when we needed them without having to ask for them. Since the weather was much chillier than we had anticipated, we appreciated the warmth of the apartment after a cool and windy day in the city. The room arrangement was just ideal for the 3 or us, and we greatly enjoyed the comfortable overstuffed chair and the couch, and especially the thoughtfulness of the lap blanket in the living room.
We made great use of the dining table, appreciated having dishwashing soap and materials available, and the hair dryer was a nice addition. We felt that the rooms were attractively decorated, and we loved the "homey" feeling of the apartment, as well as its close proximity to the subway station and several very enjoyable "eateries."
All in all, we had a wonderful time and were happy to have the opportunity to enjoy the city with a "home to come home to."
I stayed one night at Hope's apartment and it was a very pleasing experience. First of all, Hope gave very clear indications and I had no problems reaching her or getting into her place. The flat was very very clean, comfortable and and very well heated (this was especially important since it was extremely cold in New York at that time).
Again, I cannot stress enough how clean and cosy the whole place felt. Hope was a great host, even taking the time to check personally on me after I arrived. She therefore clearly deserves 5 stars.
We really liked the neighborhood-full of great Brooklyn attractions. We liked the restaurants and easy access to the subway. Hope was gracious, kind and very honest.
The flat was clean and the beds were comfortable. Hope left us with a nicely stocked refrigerator, which we appreciated. The building is an older one, with high ceilings and a railroad flat layout. I think it would be a squeeze for 7 large people to stay there-maybe a family with small children? We were comfortable as a group of 4. The kitchen set up is simple but adequate and the furnishings are pleasant. All in all we had a good time!
We enjoyed our stay in Hope's apartment. It has plenty of room for a large group, especially by NY standards. Close to subway and great shops and places to eat. Dino BBQ next door is great! The building & neighborhood itself is a bit questionable of but the inside of this apartment is very nice.
It was a pleasure to host you and your husband at my place. My sister in law still still makes jokes about me staying that even my guests think I'm crazy for choosing NYC over Dubai. The building is an older building but that's very typical of NYC....it's what makes NYC so eclectic/cool and charming. The block borders park slope which is known for being one of the safest areas in NYC..... Even safer then manhattan. I hope to see you back in NYC and my place is all yours for future visits.
Nice cozy home. Generous host
I stayed in Hope's charming 2 bedroom apartment in Brooklyn as part of my visit to NYC in November 2013. Hope was a very gracious and responsive host. The apartment was quite nice with gleaming hardwood floors and spacious for the NYC area. It was extremely well located, just minutes from Manhattan via. subway.
For those considering it, I can recommend Hope's apartment for those travelling for pleasure or business. The apartment is a first floor apartment so I recommend ear plugs if you're not used to a bit of street noise. As a slightly older building, the floors had a slight slope rather than perfectly level, but this wasn't a problem and didn't bother us. There is parking available across the street for $25/day and cheaper elsewhere if you don't mind walking a bit.
This was our first experience with airbnb and I could not imagine having a better one. Our group of six adults were all very comfortable in this truly charming oasis. This home is nicely furnished, meticulously clean, quiet, and warmly decorated. Hope is an awesome host, very accommodating, and definitely part of the "charm." Her great communication and warm personality made our experience even more delightful. Some of the other reviews mention the exterior appearance of the building and the slope of the floor as inconsequential and I agree whole-heartedly. Any concerns were fleeting and quickly melted away, overwhelmed by all the positives. We would definitely stay at this Charming Oasis again and recommend it to anyone.
We had a wonderful stay in Hope's apartment in Cobble Hill. Her home was very well cared for, and was super clean and cosy. It's in a really lovely neighbourhood and the location is perfect for exploring Brooklyn and just a short subway trip away from Manhattan. On top of all that, Hope is a really great host - super helpful, warm and friendly!! We enjoyed chatting with her a lot and felt she was available for us. She communicates well and will make you feel at ease about renting her apartment!
Let me first start by saying that Hope is very kind, friendly and quick with communication. Hope asked that I give an honest review so that is what I am going to do.
I unfortunately would not recommend this apartment. It does have a couple positive attributes however. The biggest one being its proximity to the subway (1/2 block) and to the lovely neighborhood of Park Slope. There are lots of restaurants and markets nearby.
Now to the not so great. The apartment itself is in a very run down building that needs a tremendous amount of work. The interior of the apartment is better but not great either, mostly older IKEA furniture. There is little to no natural light at any point during the day. The floor has a very steep slope from front to back (I wouldn't classify it as charming.) The bed in the middle room is hard as a rock and the bed in the larger bedroom sits perpendicular to the sloping floor leaving you with a "I may roll out of bed sensation." The internet is spotty at best when you can actually get it to work.
The bathroom had a very strong odor of stale urine, much like the nearby subway, especially noticeable while in the shower. The apartment appeared to be generally clean, however the first nicely folded towel I went for in the kitchen to dry my hands was wet. That immediately made me question how thoroughly the apartment is cleaned between guests. The kitchen sink would occasionally not turn on.
It is very very noisy. You can hear the people in the apartment upstairs very late into the night. Both their footsteps and a very loud television that was on until 2:30 in the morning both nights of my stay. That allows about 5 hours of quiet before the auto shop, that is literally on the other side of the wall, starts firing up their drills to remove wheels. I was very hopeful that the apartment would live up to its glowing reviews but I'm afraid it did not. I would look else where.
The only truly/wholesome honest thing that David has written this review is that I asked him to leave an honest review.
Let me first start off by saying that communication is always key here on Airbnb between host and guest! I assume David was the perfect Guest, but my assumptions were completely wrong after reading this review. David never once complained to me. I am a very accommodating host if he had told me that he was having difficulty sleeping from the noise from the neighbors I would've asked them to turn their television down, although it was a Saturday night.
I'm not quite sure what David was thinking when he wrote this review online or why he's trying to ruin my credibility here on airbnb because never once did he complain about anything. This entire street in Park slope is on a slight slope and it's not something I control nonetheless the entire apartment is newly renovated with top-of-the-line hardwood floors. Yes David you caught me I do have furniture from IKEA but you forgot to mention that the bedroom furniture is from Bloomingdale's and dining room set is from Macy's...... But these are all things you should've seen in the pictures that have been professionally taken by the Airbnb photographer. My photos and description of my place depict an honest picture of the place that you're booking, maybe you should've looked through the photos completely and read the description before you booked. This is a prewar building but the inside of the apartment is brand-new from A-Z. Never once in my entire year of hosting 100+ Guests or in my 50+ reviews has anyone doubted the cleanliness of my places( please check and read for yourself).
Although my check in time is at 3pm David asked for me to check him in at 11 AM and I made an exception and let him drop off his music equipment and bags because I was trying to be an accommodating host. Upon check-in David was by himself but He asked me to have one additional guest and as a courtesy I let the additional guest stay without a charge but he had another additional person without my permission for a total of three people and a booking for 2 nights and one guest. I asked myself the question why David would've slept in both beds if there was three people and two beds, I also asked myself why David paid the $90 cleaning fee upon his check out if the place was not clean or smelled like urine like he said. I would never leave a cleaning fee if I felt I was being ripped off or paying for something that was not provided.
Upon check-in David received the keys and he told me that my place was "great". Upon checking out I also asked him how was his stay and he said "wonderful" and did not give me one complaint. This was a sorry way for David to try to get a refund from me or Airbnb.
Please read all my other glowing reviews and see if this one seems out of place and use your judgment. All my other reviews speak for themselves!
This is the final rate, including any fees from the host and Airbnb.
