Park the car, the city centre is only a 20 min stroll, a bus to the country is 30 min away.
I know what's on in local pubs, theatres, gallery openings and events.
Relax by the fire and chat with a cuppa, sleep well in a comfortable bed.
Homely, relaxed, close to city and country.
1 guest room with comfortable double bed, a desk and chair (for those messages home)
1 cosy attic room with double and single futons
Downstairs toilet, upstairs in-bath shower
Bed linen, towels, robes, shampoo, etc.
Shared sitting room, stove fire, television. Wifi.
Help yourself to good coffee, varied teas, meusli, porridge, fruit, natural yogurt.
For longer stays we may come to an arrangement about using my kitchen. You can use my spices if you show me a new recipe!
Interaction with Guests
When you are booking, please send me a message about your visit to Cork - otherwise I may not see your request until too late.
I like to greet visitors and have a chat with you, but you are independent in my home and can come and go as you please.
I can tell you where to go for meals, drinks and entertainment.
Ask for Michelle's Meander - a tour to the University Campus, Glucksman Gallery, Fitzgerald Park (with children's playground), the Shaky Bridge, City Gaol and Shandon Bells, ending up in the city centre.
This is a safe, family-oriented area, only 6 minutes stroll from Europe's only city-centre wildlife sanctuary, where you can overhear all kinds of conversations: for a laugh, search for 'The Lough Birds' on YouTube!
A pub and restaurant overlook the Lough.
Supermarket, pharmacy, laundry, Chinese take-away or Fish 'n Chipper nearby.
2 buses pass the end of my street - one goes to a shopping mall, the second to city centre in one direction, Cork University Hospital at the other. It is a short walk or bus ride to the city centre, a 10 minute taxi to the airport.
As recommended by a guest (thanks Ryan!) I suggest that you get The Heritage Card, which guarantees free admission to fee-paying State managed OPW Heritage Sites located throughout the country - in the southwest alone there are more than a dozen sites, so well worth it.
Other Things to Note
If you have a choice of nights to stay in Cork, the first Friday (of a month) is the best - that's the night the local musicians have a "busman's holiday" with an impromptu gathering in The Corner House from 5:30 to 9ish. Some of Cork's best traditional players can be heard for free.
Also, on most Fridays, TDC (Theatre Development Centre) have a free presentation of work in progress at Triskel Arts Centre.
Of course, there is always music, for example in The Oliver Plunkett, which also serves Irish-themed food.
You should be able to find all these places online.
This is a family home, with friendly neighbors on either side, so we would appreciate guests who intend to use the house as a base for sleeping and relaxing while touring, sightseeing or studying in Cork.
No smoking please!
Do not leave rubbish in your room, I can give you a bag to place in the outdoor bin.
In the bathroom, please remove hair from the filter over the shower drain and flush down the toilet to prevent any blockages - or showering in a foot bath! Close the toilet lid, both for good Feng Shui and good hygiene.
Check out time is usually 10:00 am.
This is my home and my work space, so I'm sure that there are all kinds of little things that I don't realize yet! We can have a chat when you arrive.
Michelle was a delightful and helpful host. She made me feel very welcome in her cosy home. Thanks for a lovely stay in Cork.
We had a lovely stay in Cork, Michelle was very friendly and welcoming. She's great host. Her house is cosy and the room was nice. She gave us some very helpful tips on how and where to travel, so here's a tip for future travellers: from Cork you can easily go to Cashel and Cahir castles. They are both wonderful and Cahir is on the way to Cashel, so you can take the same bus (it's a one day trip to both castles).
Michelle is an excellent host! We had a great time at Cork!
Definitely we will visit her again! The house was clean and comfortable and the neighbourhood nice and calm!
The Breakfast was really good and Michelle made us feel like home!
The house it's very clean and Michelle it's very very kind and a great cook!!
Lovely couple, lovely room, lovely neighborhood! We really enjoyed "Michelle's Meander" through the town, as it gave us access to some of the best sights in Cork, including the city centre, the old Cork Gaol, the park, and the university. Not much was open on a Sunday before the summer season, but a highly recommended destination nonetheless! Thanks so much!
From the moment I arrived Michelle made me feel right at home! She is a wealth of information on where to go eat, drink, and explore in the Cork area and is able to discuss the history etc. Her home is wonderful, and I thoroughly enjoyed my stay. I would highly recommend visiting Cobh for the Titanic Experience. Where you receive a boarding pass as 1 of the 123 people who boarded the Titanic from this port afterwards you can learn more about your passenger their purpose for boarding whether they survived. It's a great way to honour them. Afterwardd head over to Rob Roy bar. I was lucky enough to walk in on a traditional irish music session, lovely small pub with €4 pints.
Thanks Michelle for a great stay, I hope your renovations go smoothly and turn out as expected!

Joe and Michelle are well travelled - we love everything about food, though we try to combat the calories by walking and swimming.
