Park the car, the city centre is only a 20 min stroll, a bus to the country is 30 min away
I know what's on in local pubs, theatres, galleries, I have invites to openings and events.

The Space

Homely, relaxed.
1 guest room with double bed, desk with chair for those messages home
1 cosy room with double and single futons
Downstairs toilet, upstairs in-bath shower
Bed linen and towels

Guest Access

Shared sitting room, kitchen for breakfast
tea and coffee making, fridge,
stove fire, television. Wifi
For longer stays we may come to an arrangement about the kitchen. You can use my spices if you show me a new recipe!

Interaction with Guests

I like to greet visitors and have a chat with them, but will leave them alone if that is their preference.
I can tell you where to go for meals, drinks and entertainment.

The Neighborhood

This is a safe, family-oriented area, only 6 minutes stroll from Europe's only city-centre wildlife sanctuary, where you can overhear all kinds of conversations: for a laugh, search for 'The Lough Birds' on YouTube!

Getting around

2 buses pass the end of my street - one goes to a shopping mall, the second to city centre in one direction, Cork University Hospital at the other. It is a short walk or bus ride to the city centre, a 10 minute taxi ride to the airport.

Other Things to Note

Breakfast is cereal (including Irish porridge), juice, tea or coffee, whatever fruit is in the bowl, toast if there's bread in the bin - in other words, whatever we are having ourselves.

Check In
  • Michelle was a most gracious host extending great Irish hospitality. She had wonderful ideas for my time in a Cork.

  • Booking was fast and easy with good communication with host Michelle.
Home is located near Cork Lough Park. The park has a nice walking path around the lough and a bird sanctuary in the middle.
There is a large grocery store nearby as well as a take-away restaurant.
It is a 1.25-1.5 mile walk to City Centre (20 minute walk). University College Cork is 3/4 mile away (10 minute walk). There is a bus stop 100 yards from the home and buses run every 20 minutes weekdays. I usually walked to and from City Centre except when it rained. There were things to see along the walk and different routes to keep it interesting.
Michelle is a great host and very knowledgeable about local cultural events, art, theatre, architecture and history.
The home was clean and inviting. My bedroom had a comfortable bed with a desk and easy access to power outlets for charging electronic devices.
The bathroom is upstairs and is very large with a bathtub/shower and reliable hot water. Bathroom was very clean and modern.
The experience as a whole was perfect- nice clean home with a comfortable bed and a marvelous host! I would definitely repeat.

  • Michelle was a lovely host and it was a great place to stop over for our one night in Cork. She gave us some good advice about where to grab a feed and even got up super early to make us cereal and toast in the morning before our early flight.

  • We spent only one night in Cork, but it was enought to realize Michelle is a nice host. She is friendly and nice and her house is very welcoming.
It is about 15/20 mn walking to the city center and next to a lovely small lake, and a supermarket.
    I recommend this place.

  • Michelle was extremely welcoming from the moment we arrived. We so loved getting to settle in with drinks, snacks, and lovely conversation with her and her delightful friend Julia. Also some great suggestions for walks and sites around Cork. The little attic room was so cozy and cute, and we had a wonderful stay!

  • Thanks a lot Michelle. I've been a pleasure to meet you and I hope to see you again soon. Michelle is a talkative, social and friendly host. She made you feel at home at once and she help you in all your troubles.

The room was clean and well decorated... and the house is confortable and cozy.

Your house is in a calm area, quite easy to get to the center by foot and the best thing.... a 10 minuts walk to the best fish and ships in Ireland. So... I mean.. a top 10 in Cork!

  • Michelle and Joe have been amazing hosts. They have been very welcoming and very friendly. It has been a pleasure meeting them and sharing those moments with them.
Their house is very charming and close to the city center, which is very convenient. They made everything to feel us comfortable.
I would definitely recommend them to anyone looking for a nice place to stay in Cork.

  • Michelle is a very friendly host and very easy to talk to. She provided many great recommendations for Cork and surrounding area. Breakfast was provided each morning, which consisted of cereals, fruit, bread, and coffee/tea/juice. There were no surprises with the rooms listed. If you do book the room in the "attic", the slope of the roof makes the ceiling low. I am 5 foot 8 inches and couldn't stand up straight. The space is fine as long as you go in knowing what to expect. My wife and I had no issues staying in that room. We were able to park our rental car on the street and were provided keys to the house. It's a great location within 15 minutes walking distance to downtown Cork. I would definitely stay with Michelle again!

    Response from Michelle:

I agree about the check-in problem!
It can be an issue with us non-professional hosts, if (real) work suddenly takes a turn for the worse, especially when the guests don't have access to a phone.
I wonder if Airbnb could produce a local phone card to be used by Airbnbers?
Note to self: suggest to head office !!

  • Michelle could not be more open and welcoming. We completely hit it off from the start. Had a great meal and chat that I will not soon forget.

Her charming home wants for nothing.
Thank you Michelle. I hope to see you stateside.

  • Despite the fact I totally messed up our arrival dates in Cork, Michelle went out of her to find us lovely accomodations with her next door neighbours ( she was full that evening). Her neighbours were very sweet to us and made available a lovely room and extended warm Irish hospitality to us. A visit with Michelle later that evening over a cup of tea that was wonderful; we felt very welcome and cared for.
One night really was too short to see lovely Cork and truly would have enjoyed another cup of tea and a longer chat with both households! ;o)

Firkin Crane Dance Centre
Joe and Michelle are well travelled - we love everything about food, though we try to combat the calories by walking and swimming. He works in Dublin and has a house in County Galway. She manages the website for Firkin Crane dance centre and also co-ordinates visiting children who live with Irish families while learning English.
