About This Listing
Welcome to our glorious old Mainline home! Note, to reserve more than 1 room: From our main profile page, scroll down to "About the host." Mouse: "More" then "Full Profile." You will see all listings in left margin. Mouse your choice & request!
This is the first of our three elegant rooms available. Room #1, here, has a queen sized bed, bureau, closet and 3 small windows plus one more huge window. There is an AC unit installed for hot weather, too. (Note, to reserve more than 1 room: From our main profile page, scroll down to "About the host." Mouse: "More" then "Full Profile." You will see all listings in left margin. Mouse your choice & request! ). We are experienced hosts living in a large, conveniently located Mainline home - one block from the Bala Cynwyd train station (taking you directly to Philadelphia's 30th Street Station) and also the “Rails to trails” Heritage Trail which connects to over 75 miles of paved trails. We are within a 12 minute drive to Center City & 5 minutes from SJU, Bryn Mawr & Haverford colleges. U of P and Drexel are within a 10 minute drive and Villanova is about a 20 minute drive away. The Mann Music Center lies about a mile from our front door. And, we are also less than a mile’s pleasant walk to the Beck Institute (did I say, “conveniently located??”)
All 3 bedrooms are air-conditioned and each has at least one Queen sized bed. “Room 2 of 3” has 2 beds in it. All 3 rooms lie on the top floor of our home; set aside from the family’s sleeping quarters.
The guests share their own private bath but have the use of two other bathrooms, also. The guest bath is home to our newly installed and huge walk-in shower! Breakfast is served every morning and linens, hair dryers & alarm clocks are in each room. Wifi access is available throughout the house.
In addition to their rooms & private bath, guests have access to other bathrooms and the 1st floor living areas (kitchen, living room, dining room) and driveway for parking. The kitchen is for all of us, too! In temperate weather, the veranda and patio are also for their use. For extended stays (more than 4 days) our guests have use of the washer and dryer and temporary storage too.
Interaction with Guests
The house is large enough that those seeking privacy can keep their interactions with us at a minimum. The common rooms (kitchen, dining area, living room, veranda) are, well, "common" in that we use them too. However, each of us is sensitive to the needs and wants of our guests and reading the social cues of "do not disturb" adeptly!
It is just plain beautiful. Huge homes, expansive lawns, easily traversed sidewalks, nature and bicycle trails, friendly faces and good eats!
Park in our private drive or on our friendly neighborhood streets! Our home lies one block from the Cynwyd Train station that runs only during regular business hours. We are within a mile's walk of the larger, more active, Merion Train station too. Many of our guests use the public bus system that runs within a few blocks of our home, or the reliable MainLine Cab service too.
Other Things to Note
We are a family of friendly faces to make your stay just as you like it. Availability is often negotiable.
If you have a well behaved dog that will be friendly with ours, you are welcome to bring the little darling along too.
For stays of longer than a week or a month we have an extremely reduced rate! We will forward this special offer to you after you request the reservation.
You will have your own access to our home and as much socializing or quiet as you prefer. We run a polite and respectful home with quiet times between 10PM and 8AM. One well trained dog resides here with us. Seasoned travelers ourselves with decades of residence, we can support your stay as you need.
Carol and Joe made me feel very welcome in their home and the communication prior to arrival was wonderful! What made the biggest impression on me was how incredibly polite and helpful their teenage sons were! This is a family that truly cares about making people feel "right at home." My stay was very brief, but I enjoyed a very good night of sleep and loved the cleanliness of the room (VERY) and the comfortable soft sheets! Thank you!
I couldn't have picked a better two hosts for my first airbnb experience. Joe and Carol were more than welcoming, they make you feel right at home. Which was a good thing because we were all snowed in together the first day! Joe, myself and the their three boys went on an adventure to MAMAS PIZZERIA (a must go to) for a cheesesteak I had dreamt about the night before. There is only one place I will stay going forward when traveling the Philly area! Thanks Joe and Carol!
Oh boy, Chris - you opened up a can of worms by naming a go-to place for cheesesteaks! I'll ask them to send the endorsement check straight to you and shall send our respectful apologies out to the various other cheese-steak favorite spots (Jims & D'Allesandro's come to mind)... sheesh! We look forward to your return and wish you the best until then, - Carol
I've had a great time at Joe and Carols place. The rooms are great, I stayed in two different rooms during my stay, both of them arre really nice.
The bathroom is nice and has a great shower. Therre is room to store you're own toilettries. Needed to share the bathroom with 2 other guests, this was no problem at all.
In the morning there is a choise of breakfast with some coffee, thea or orange juice.
Joe and Carol are really nice people who are interessted. If wanted they wil help you arround in the neighberhood, how to travel and wath you can do.
I could reccomend staying with Joe and Carol.
Staying with Carol and Joe is like being welcomed into the heart of a big, happy family. It's hard to imagine more pleasant or gracious hosts. Even Piglet the dog kindly shared her bed and toys with my dog! We both felt completely at home from the moment we walked in the door.
The house is beautiful, nicely located - outside the city bustle but with easy access to downtown by both train and car. The room was very comfortable and quiet. They offered a light help-yourself breakfast and (exceptional!) coffee in the morning, which was a very nice touch.
I hope to return here - soon and often!
