Note: This is only one of our two rooms! Together, the rooms can accommodate 5 guests comfortably. The other room is listed as "Elegant bedrm in Mainline Home 2 of 2."
We are experienced hosts living in a large, conveniently located Mainline 100 year old home - one block from the Bala Cynwyd train station (taking you directly to Philadelphia's 30th Street Station) and also the paved Heritage Trail for those more active (leading you to Main Street in Manayunk and the longer Schuylkill River Trail). 12 minutes drive to Center City, Philadelphia and 5 minutes from Saint Joseph's University, Bryn Mawr & Haverford colleges and 10 minutes from The University of Pennsylvania, Villanova and Drexel University! Our home is also less than a mile's pleasant walk to the Beck Institute. This room sleeps two comfortably in the queen sized bd.
Both bedrooms are air-conditioned with huge windows, books and games.
There is a shared bathroom steps from your bedroom with walk-in shower and tub w another full bath on the third floor and a 1/2 bath on the first floor... rarely a traffic jam!
Linens (towels, bed sheets and wash cloths), hair dryers & alarm clocks are in each room but we do not offer complementary toiletries. A lovely continental breakfast is served each AM and you are welcome to use the kitchen as your own to provide your own meals. All public spaces are for your use also.
You will have as much peace & quiet as you prefer. As you see in the photos, we have a cozy living room with working fireplace, patio, veranda and garden.
Our house has a private drive and wifi access. We are within walking distance to Starbucks, a small tea shop, diners, restaurants, LA Fitness, free library with computers and wifi, movie theater, tennis courts, and the neighborhood shopping district.
This is a terrific walking neighborhood with tree lined streets, sidewalks, expansive lawns and interesting homes.
We are a family of friendly faces to make your stay just as you like it. Availability is often negotiable.
If you have a well behaved dog that will be friendly with ours, you are welcome to bring the little darling along too.
For stays of longer than a week or a month we have an extremely reduced rate - certainly not gained by merely taking the daily rate and multiplying it by the days you will be with us! We will forward this special offer to you after you request the reservation. The weekly rate offers a 15% discount from the per diem rate and the monthly offers another 15% on top of that! This is indicated in the pricing section of our profile... for long term guests, the second "B" ceases, and you take advantage of making yourself at home in the kitchen!
Please note: For parties of more than 2, we politely request that at least half of the guests be verified members of Airbnb.
In addition to their rooms, guests have access to the 3 bathrooms and 1st floor living areas (kitchen, living room, dining room) and driveway for parking. The kitchen is for all of us, too! In temperate weather, the veranda and patio are also for their use. For extended stay (more than 4 days) our guests have use of the washer and dryer and temporary storage too.
All members of our home keep their own private schedules, however, we have found that our guest often like to socialize with us over a cup of coffee, a bike ride, or even a meal - we consider this a bonus, but not a requirement!
It is just plain beautiful. Huge homes, expansive lawns, easily traversed sidewalks, nature and bicycle trails and friendly faces and good eats!
One block from our home is a train that runs into the city during business hours, and buses pick up nearly at the door. Driveway is for guest use, too and on street parking is easy-peezy.

Joe & Carol are wonderful hosts and their home is the perfect and place to spend an action-packed weekend in Philadelphia. They were very open about checking in and the fast communication was very helpful, as I was traveling from New York City for the 4th of July. They were very concerned with our well being and I thoroughly enjoyed my stay. I was well rested, had delicious coffee, and played with an adorable dog. Their place is perfectly situated just over the Schuylkill River in a lovely part of town but still a quick 10 minute drive from downtown Philadelphia. I will definitely return to Joe & Carol's home should I need accommodations in Philadelphia again.
We had a good stay with Joe in his large, comfortable, relaxed home. It was very convenient getting to downtown Philadelphia, and Joe was friendly and welcoming.
We, my wife, my five year-old daughter, and myself, stayed with Joe and Carol for a month! And it was a great time from the very start!! We were relocating to the Philly area and need a base while we apartment hunted. Joe and Carol's place turned out to be an excellent choice. It is in a great location, and although it is "out of town" you can still reach the center of Philadelphia within ten minutes. A couple of blocks away is a nice walking trail that leads to a playground. This became one of our daughters favorite activities to do.
In addition to Joe and Carol, there are their three boys. Brian, Cole, and Drew. These kids are not your normal teenagers... they are extremely well behaved, courteous, and friendly! We enjoyed when they were around, and our daughter Hanna loved pestering them...
As we were there for a month, we felt like we became a part of the family, and hope to maintain our friendship.
I highly recommend Joe and Carol's place!!
Wir waren für 2 Nächte bei Joe und Carol. Es war unsere erste Airbnb Erfahrung. Die beiden waren wirklich nett und unser Zimmer war sauber und ruhig gelegen. Man konnte gut ausschlafen. Die Küche konnten wir ohne Probleme nutzen und es war alles gut eingeteilt.
Bei Fragen haben Joe und Carol uns gern und informativ weiter geholfen.
Es war eine tolle erste Erfahrung.
Joe and Carol were attentive and welcoming from when we booked our trip, to being incredibly accommodating to our later arrival, and going the extra mile for our stay. They are warm and inviting, and the room is great, spacious, and warm. The location cannot be beat as well, as you are within walking distance of two train lines that can got us into the city quickly. Highly reccomended.
Joe and Carol were welcoming and cheerful, and the pretty, spacious room was super clean and ready for us when we arrived. A very comfortable bed, nice hot shower, and a self-serve breakfast made our stay convenient and easy. The house is beautiful and the neighborhood is quite nice, with plenty of on-street parking. We are happy to have (email hidden) to stay while visiting Philly---thanks again, Joe and Carol!
We rented both rooms to stay close to my family for a reunion. My daughter and I shared one room and my other daughter and her husband were in the other.
The rooms were cozy and we felt very comfortable in the house. The hosts and their family were lovely and friendly.
We had a fine welcome from the friendly dog, who obviously relishes having new friends to play with. I would gladly stay here for another visit.
Staying at Joe and Carol's is like staying with family; the most sweet, caring, helpful family who cater to your every need and think of all the details, so you can just be pampered and enjoy your stay. I am not exaggerating one bit. They are awesome and have far exceeded expectations both times we have stayed with them. Joe and Carol are fabulous people, who are genuine and personable, and truly fantastic hosts!
I really enjoyed my stay with Joe & Carol. They were extremely considerate hosts who I enjoyed getting to know. Their home is as lovely as they are.
I stayed almost a week with Joe and Carol Havlick in the Blue Room at their home in Bala Cynwyd, Pa., where the Main Line begins. The house is old but charming with big rooms and comfortable furniture. Joe and Carol are warm and friendly folks. I felt very welcome in their home. I work in downtown Philadelphia and found that the commute via I-76 was very easy if I started around 7:00 a.m. I drove in, but there is a regional rail line within easy walking distance if you want to try it. Bala Cynwyd has lots of shopping and restaurants. (Try the Honeygrow on City Avenue for Asian food.) A great experience overall.
