Note: This is only one of our two rooms! Together, the rooms can accommodate 5 guests comfortably. The other room is listed as "Elegant bedrm in Mainline Home 2 of 2."
We are experienced hosts living in a large, conveniently located Mainline 100 year old home - one block from the Bala Cynwyd train station (taking you directly to Philadelphia's 30th Street Station) and also the paved Heritage Trail for those more active (leading you to Main Street in Manayunk and the longer Schuylkill River Trail). 12 minutes drive to Center City, Philadelphia and 5 minutes from Saint Joseph's University, Bryn Mawr & Haverford colleges and 10 minutes from The University of Pennsylvania, Villanova and Drexel University! Our home is also less than a mile's pleasant walk to the Beck Institute. This room sleeps two comfortably in the queen sized bd.
Both bedrooms are air-conditioned with huge windows, books and games.
There is a shared bathroom steps from your bedroom with walk-in shower and tub w another full bath on the third floor and a 1/2 bath on the first floor... rarely a traffic jam!
Linens (towels, bed sheets and wash cloths), hair dryers & alarm clocks are in each room. A lovely continental breakfast is served each AM and you are welcome to use the kitchen as your own to provide your own meals. All public spaces are for your use also.
You will have as much peace & quiet as you prefer. As you see in the photos, we have a cozy living room with working fireplace, patio, veranda and garden.
Our house has a private drive and wifi access. We are within walking distance to Starbucks, a small tea shop, diners, restaurants, LA Fitness (FREE GUEST PASSES!!), free library with computers and wifi, movie theater, tennis courts, and the neighborhood shopping district.
This is a terrific walking neighborhood with tree lined streets, sidewalks, expansive lawns and interesting homes.
We are a family of friendly faces to make your stay just as you like it. Availability is often negotiable.
If you have a well behaved dog that will be friendly with ours, you are welcome to bring the little darling along too.
For stays of longer than a week or a month we have an extremely reduced rate - certainly not gained by merely taking the daily rate and multiplying it by the days you will be with us! We will forward this special offer to you after you request the reservation. The weekly rate offers a 15% discount from the per diem rate and the monthly offers a 25% reduction! This is indicated in the pricing section of our profile.
Please note: For parties of more than 2, we politely request that at least half of the guests be verified members of Airbnb.
In addition to their rooms, guests have access to the 3 bathrooms and 1st floor living areas (kitchen, living room, dining room) and driveway for parking. The kitchen is for all of us, too! In temperate weather, the veranda and patio are also for their use. For extended stay (more than 4 days) our guests have use of the washer and dryer and temporary storage too.
All members of our home keep their own private schedules, however, we have found that our guest often like to socialize with us over a cup of coffee, a bike ride, or even a meal - we consider this a bonus, but not a requirement!
It is just plain beautiful. Huge homes, expansive lawns, easily traversed sidewalks, nature and bicycle trails and friendly faces and good eats!
One block from our home is a train that runs into the city during business hours, and buses pick up nearly at the door. Driveway is for guest use, too and on street parking is easy-peezy.

I stayed almost a week with Joe and Carol Havlick in the Blue Room at their home in Bala Cynwyd, Pa., where the Main Line begins. The house is old but charming with big rooms and comfortable furniture. Joe and Carol are warm and friendly folks. I felt very welcome in their home. I work in downtown Philadelphia and found that the commute via I-76 was very easy if I started around 7:00 a.m. I drove in, but there is a regional rail line within easy walking distance if you want to try it. Bala Cynwyd has lots of shopping and restaurants. (Try the Honeygrow on City Avenue for Asian food.) A great experience overall.
Joe and Carol are wonderful people. They accommodated my whole family (2 kids and 2 dogs) in their 2 bedrooms while we were in the process of moving into the area. They even got us a housewarming gift. The space is a wonderful old home and meticulously maintained.
Carol and Joe provide a comfortable room and welcoming environment. Their lovely home is clean and well-located; the kids charming and friendly; and the dog so sweet. Helpful directions, interesting conversation, and tasty breakfast options rounded out a nice stay.
We are "repeat customers" because the location is excellent, the accommodations are outstanding and Joe & Carol are great hosts.
We will repeat again!
What can I say that hasn't already been stated in previous reviews! This is a wonderful place to stay, and communication was very prompt and excellent as we planned our stay. My 5 adult family members stayed here while in Philly for the Pennsylvania Horticulture Flower Show and visiting my nephew. When we arrived I felt like we were coming home to family...yes, Carol, Joe, the boys and sweet Luna are that awesome. They welcome you and accommodate your every need...including clearing the snow so you can get to your car AND cleaning it off your car! The beds were very comfortable, spacious bedrooms and a big bathroom. The bathroom was shared and it worked out very well. You are free to come and go, use the kitchen, relax in the other rooms. Interaction with the family is up to you and can be a little or a lot. But by all means, visit with them. They are truly a great family, and know how to show hospitality and share their home in a very gracious way. And my secret to share with you....Luna loves to play once Mom and Dad leave the house ;)
Finally, I will say, my sister had made reservations at a Comfort Inn but I finally convinced her to go with my idea and stay in an airbnb. When all was said and done....she was very glad she LISTENED to her BIG sister! If we ever travel back to Philly, I hope that the Havlick's will still be sharing their Mainline Home as I would welcome the opportunity to see them and relax in this wonderful piece of history again. So glad we chose Mainline Home!

Joe & Carol are very outgoing and friendly folk. The house is very nicely decorated and everything was well above our expectations. We will return!
Joe and Carol are wonderful. We arrived in Philly in the middle of a snow storm and they were really helpful. We had a great time. The house is really pretty, the rooms are big and warm. Joe and Carol are really welcoming.
My daughter and I planned a special weekend in Philadelphia to see some of her favorite performers who did a show at a small café in Ardmore. I wanted a memorable weekend with my brand new teen and I certainly got it! Part of what made it so memorable and perfect was the warm hospitality of Joe and Carol and their family. We enjoyed the atmosphere of their home and being able to walk to neighborhood restaurants. We were always comfortable whether we were writing in our room or chatting with family members. And we loved walking on the Cydwyd Heritage Trail, a real bonus that we did not expect when we decided to stay with Carol and Joe. If Philadelphia calls again we will certainly consider staying with this wonderful family.
Stay with Joe and Carol was very good. They welcomed me like family. Very attentive, friendly and caring. The whole family is lovely. The house is enjoyable, the fourth and the beds are very comfortable! A big hug for them!
We felt very comfortable in Joe and Carol's home. Everything was prepared nicely. We felt right at home.
