We are seasoned hosts living in a large, conveniently located Mainline 100 year old home - one block from the Bala Cynwyd train station (taking you directly to Philadelphia's 30th Street Station) and also the paved Heritage Trail for those more active (leading you to Main Street in Manayunk and the longer Shuylkill River Trail). 12 minutes drive to Center City, Philadelphia and 5 minutes from Saint Joseph's University, Bryn Mawr & Haverford colleges and 10 minutes from The University of Pennsylvania, Villanova and Drexel University! Our home is also less than a mile's pleasant walk to the Beck Institute. The first of our 2 guest rooms is an air-conditioned elegant bedroom with a queen size bed, 2 huge windows, books and games. (You can view the link for second guest room here: https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/1616666). The two guest rooms comfortably sleep 5 adults. There is a shared bathroom steps from your bedroom with walk-in shower and tub. 2 other bathrooms on separate floors as well - one full and one half to avoid "traffic jams!" Linens (towels, bed sheets and wash cloths), hair dryer & alarm clock in room. Deluxe continental breakfast or lunch (or sometimes joining us for elaborate meal if you like) and as much peace & quiet as you prefer. Cozy living room with fireplace for socializing. Use of patio, veranda and garden.
House has a private drive and wifi access. Walking distance to coffee shop, diners, restaurants and neighborhood shopping district. Great walking neighborhood with tree lined streets, sidewalks, expansive lawns and interesting homes.
We are a family of friendly faces to make your stay just as you like it. Availability is often negotiable.
If you have a well behaved dog that will be friendly with ours, you are welcome to bring the little darling along too... know that we do require a 50$ pet deposit fee that shall be fully refunded to you upon your departure if all is well (we haven't had to retain this yet!).
For stays of longer than a week or a month we have an extremely reduced rate - certainly not gained by merely taking the daily rate and multiplying it by the days you will be with us! We will forward this special offer to you after you request the reservation. The weekly rate offers a 15% discount from the per diem rate and the monthly offers a 25% reduction! This is indicated in the pricing section of our profile. However, once you become "part of the family" during your extended stay, you shall be preparing your own meals with use of the kitchen and the rest of the house (of course!).
Please note: For parties of more than 2, we politely request that at least half of the guests be verified members of Airbnb.
Also, it is best that you request as soon as you can to insure a better chance of vacancy!
In addition to their rooms, guests have access to the 3 bathrooms and 1st floor living areas (kitchen, living room, dining room) and driveway for parking. In temperate weather, the veranda and patio are also for their use. For extended stay (more than 4 days) our guest have use of the washer and dryer and temporary storage too.
All members of our home keep their own private schedules, however, we have found that our guest often like to socialize with us over a cup of coffee, a bike ride, or even a meal - we consider this a bonus, but not a requirement!
It is just plain beautiful. Huge homes, expansive lawns, easily traversed sidewalks, nature and bicycle trails and friendly faces and good eats!
One block from our home is a train that runs into the city during business hours.

What can I say that hasn't already been stated in previous reviews! This is a wonderful place to stay, and communication was very prompt and excellent as we planned our stay. My 5 adult family members stayed here while in Philly for the Pennsylvania Horticulture Flower Show and visiting my nephew. When we arrived I felt like we were coming home to family...yes, Carol, Joe, the boys and sweet Luna are that awesome. They welcome you and accommodate your every need...including clearing the snow so you can get to your car AND cleaning it off your car! The beds were very comfortable, spacious bedrooms and a big bathroom. The bathroom was shared and it worked out very well. You are free to come and go, use the kitchen, relax in the other rooms. Interaction with the family is up to you and can be a little or a lot. But by all means, visit with them. They are truly a great family, and know how to show hospitality and share their home in a very gracious way. And my secret to share with you....Luna loves to play once Mom and Dad leave the house ;)
Finally, I will say, my sister had made reservations at a Comfort Inn but I finally convinced her to go with my idea and stay in an airbnb. When all was said and done....she was very glad she LISTENED to her BIG sister! If we ever travel back to Philly, I hope that the Havlick's will still be sharing their Mainline Home as I would welcome the opportunity to see them and relax in this wonderful piece of history again. So glad we chose Mainline Home!

Joe & Carol are very outgoing and friendly folk. The house is very nicely decorated and everything was well above our expectations. We will return!
Joe and Carol are wonderful. We arrived in Philly in the middle of a snow storm and they were really helpful. We had a great time. The house is really pretty, the rooms are big and warm. Joe and Carol are really welcoming.
My daughter and I planned a special weekend in Philadelphia to see some of her favorite performers who did a show at a small café in Ardmore. I wanted a memorable weekend with my brand new teen and I certainly got it! Part of what made it so memorable and perfect was the warm hospitality of Joe and Carol and their family. We enjoyed the atmosphere of their home and being able to walk to neighborhood restaurants. We were always comfortable whether we were writing in our room or chatting with family members. And we loved walking on the Cydwyd Heritage Trail, a real bonus that we did not expect when we decided to stay with Carol and Joe. If Philadelphia calls again we will certainly consider staying with this wonderful family.
Stay with Joe and Carol was very good. They welcomed me like family. Very attentive, friendly and caring. The whole family is lovely. The house is enjoyable, the fourth and the beds are very comfortable! A big hug for them!
We felt very comfortable in Joe and Carol's home. Everything was prepared nicely. We felt right at home.
Joe, Carol, and their family are some of the most awesome people I've met, while being the best "bnb" hosts I've ever had. The house is big and cozy, the room is clean and comfortable. They are right next to the Cynwyd train station and a gorgeous trail for running/biking/general outdoor-si-ness. I was here for a training at the Beck institute, and I highly recommend that anyone attending a training or workshop there stay with Joe and Carol (v. the Hilton or Crown Plaza, which is where they try to make you stay). They are less than a mile from the institute, which is an easy and beautiful walk if you're on foot (like I was), and a 30 second car ride. I was surprised by how beautiful the area was - lots of trees (all different colors right now) and old fashioned houses. I will definitely be booking with Joe and Carol next time I'm in Philly!
I recently visited my daughter at Bryn Mawr College. I chose Joe and Carol's home because of its proximity to the college, and it looked like it would be an enjoyable place to stay. It was! Joe and Carol are wonderful, welcoming hosts. I felt right at home. The overall atmosphere of the home was pleasant. The room was very comfortable and well decorated. And a plus, Carol provided a continental breakfast each morning! If you are visiting the Mainline area, I highly recommend this Air BnB home. Great location and great hosts!
Joe & Carol + the dog and kids were very sweet. The room was super comfy and there were great places nearby for walking to for dinner, coffee and a film. A trail close by for running on added to my happiness….will definitely stay again if they'll have me :)
Carol and Joe are lovely, easy to talk to and helpful. They're living in a wonderful, huge home and the guestroom we stayed in was just beautiful and super comfortable. Whole place is very clean and their dog is adorable. Yummy granola, joghurt, fruit and mini-muffins for breakfast :). Would love to stay with them again and highly recommend this couple and their home to other travellers!
