We stayed with our three young kids and had a great time at Rumah Dua Gajah. The pool was a smash hit and the kids loved jumping into the deep pool. The grounds and location are beautiful. It is across some rice fields from the Puppet Museum. It is quiet and we had the place to ourselves. Was very relaxing and well appointed with full kitchen. Very comfortable. The only thing to be aware of is that it is out of Ubud and there aren't really any shops or restaurants etc. around. You need to get a driver to get into Ubud, around 10 mins away. It is a little inconvenient, but as a consequence it is nice a quiet and a good escape from the intensity of down town Ubud traffic. Gede was a great host and his father and sister drove us around. Their fee's were very fair and taxi drivers were reluctant to match them. Air con and fans all work well. We would happily come back.

Gede's villa is an idyllic spot close to Ubud and the surrounding countryside. Best reached by scooter, although Gede and his family were so kind and helpful in arranging any kind of transportation needed. We enjoyed cooling off in the pool and relaxing in between visits to Ubud, waterfalls and rice terraces. The villa can be difficult to find at first, so be sure to take note of the directions/location before. Many thanks Gede!

We have been here three times now. We have tried staying at other places in Bali but this is the best that we always come back to. Read my wife Pippa's other reviews.

This is the second time we have chosen to stay at Rumah Dua Gajah (see earlier review below) and it was as magical as the first time. The house is spotless, with air-conditioning, mosquito nets and a pool that has to be seen to be believed, set among a tranquil rice field on one side and quiet temple on the other. Gusti, Gusti (#2) and Wayan make you feel at home and are helpful and friendly. Although the villa is located about 10 mins drive from Ubud, getting around is easy as Gusti can drive you wherever you want to go for a very reasonable charge. We cannot recommend this villa highly enough.

Our stay at Rumah Dua Gajah far exceeded our expectations. The pictures for this property are great but they really don't capture the beauty of the outdoor space. The pool is unbelievable. The atmosphere of swimming in the pool while looking across beautiful rice fields to a puppet museum off in the distance.. Just amazing. Gusti was absolutely amazing. A genuinely good person very interested in ensuring we were completely satisfied with our stay. Wayan came to the house daily, prepared and served us amazing breakfast and cleaned the house. She prepared a traditional Indonesian dinner for our whole family. We ate leftovers for three days! The property itself is located about 15 minutes by cab (5 minutes if no traffic in town) from the hustle and bustle that is Ubud. A small road off the main village road leads to the property that is surrounded by rice fields and a community temple (that you can hear prayers from while you swim in the pool). I can't say enough about Gusti the host, Gusti the groundskeeper (Gusti is the name given to first born in Balinese families) and Wayan. When we left we felt like we were saying goodbye to family. Gusti Puti was able to provide us with absolutely everything we needed. Scooters, bicycles, driver services, prepared meals right at the villa.. All of his prices were as good or better than local going rates. We spent a month in Bali and I feel like this was definitely one of the best places we stayed. Awesome vibe and glad we didn't stay right in the center of Ubud.

I agree with absolutely everything in Eric's review below in regards to Rumah Dua Gajah. I, my husband and our 2 children (9 and 6 years) stayed at the villa for 6 nights and we cannot fault anything about our visit. The villa was clean and well air conditioned, the grounds immaculate and the pool was the highlight of the visit for our kids - 3 interlinked sparkling pools of varying depth, finished off with a high platform for jumping off - heaven! The villa is well away from the road (down quite a long access road) and very peaceful. What really made this visit very special though was the people maintaining the villa. Gusti was extremely helpful at all times, telling us about local history, culture and areas of interest, driving us as we needed and even helping us with our grocery shopping. We felt at home with him immediately, and the kids just loved him. Wayan, the housekeeper, was wonderful. Not only did she keep the villa immaculate, but she also cooked us an amazing traditional breakfast on our first day and a traditional meal of her favourite dishes towards the end. The result was among the very best food we ate in Bali - to say it was a feast doesn't do it justice! The groundsman (also called Gusti) was also always helpful and very pleasant. Between the three of them, these great people made our time in Ubud something very special and even though we only spent 6 days with them we were all sad to say goodbye. My family would not hesitate to go back to Rumah Dua Gajah and we are happy to recommend it to anyone looking to relax and experience a side a Bali and its people that is as far removed from Kuta as can be imagined.

Our host Gusti was so warm and welcoming and he made sure that everything was taken care of for us. He provides a driver service when needed and he is unbelievably accommodating and kind. He is excellent at locating any services you may need nearby or further afield. He has extensive knowledge of Bali and neighboring islands. The house is fully staffed with a lovely and talented cook if need be who prepares traditional meals or meets all culinary requests. The house is situated in a lovely setting with absolutely beautiful grounds and an area of remaining forest along a river at the back of the property. The 20 towering coconut palms around the large swimming pool with a tower for diving provide the feel of a Hawaiian estate and there are rice fields (and the puppet/mask museum) abutting the property providing nice vistas from every angle. The home is comfortable and fully air conditioned with 2 large bathrooms and additional space with one more bathroom for larger families. The home is cleaned regularly by another lovely lady at no additional charge.
