Interaction with Guests
The hostel relax in clean and comfortable rooms, make friends with people from all over the world, and the friendly and helpful receptionists will be happy to share local tips and useful information about the Dominican Republic.
Palma Real Shopping center is 5 minutes ' drive or 15 minutes walk.
The international Punta Cana airport in 20 minutes by car.
Bavaro is a small tourist area where everything is close the bars, restaurants, supermarkets, etc. What attracts this place? - it's the endless white sand beaches and azure waters, where you'll be spending all your time every day!
There are 3 options how to get from the airport to our hostel:
We are located in Bavaro, which is a 20-minute taxi ride from the Punta Cana airport. The fare should be approximately 25-35$.
There is no sign outside with our hostel’s name! Since the hostel is new, many taxi drivers don’t know where we are, so please review the attached map and photos carefully, and print or save a copy on your phone to show your taxi driver.
Reference points for finding the hostel are the Plaza La Proa, Antonio Steak House, or Akikomo Restaurant past the Hotel Larimar. We are in the off-white apartment complex to the right of the Plaza La Proa and across the street from Antonio Steak House. Walk into the complex, and we’re the second building, first floor, Apartment 1B.
Try to get in the buses at the airport which picks up people and distribute them into different hotels and to tell them to stop at Plaza La Proa or Hotel Now Larimar.
Try to get the local bus that is going from the airport to Bavaro, but people should go out from the airport on the main road in order to get it. Hitchhike is not very safe especially at night. The hostel in on the main street of Bavaro and almost all the buses are passing near to it. The cost of a bus ride from the airport to Bavaro is 2-4$

Both myself and my Fiancee stayed at the GAVA hostel for a night after first arriving in Punta Cana. We stayed in the larger room, which was as pictured and clean. There is another smaller room for other guests, but we did not have any time to interact with any.
The location is excellent! The beach is very close, and easily accessible by foot or motoconcho (motorcycle taxi). Insure you pay no more than 50 pesos per person for a ride. All the beaches are public, so enjoy the beauty of the beach without the all-inclusive prices. The local watering hole is also across the street (the Car Wash), and any Spanish speakers looking for a local experience should wander over when the music starts playing. Check out the website for instructions for taking the bus to Santa Domingo, as they have very well-written instructions.
Andrey & Valentina were very welcoming, and gave us directions to the hostel to insure that we arrived and found the place easily. Guests have access to the fridge, pool in the backyard, and other amenities. Read the fine print of the listing carefully so you understand check-in times, A/C, etc. Note that in addition to the fine print we were required to put an additional $20 key deposit down in cash, which was not covered by AirBNB. Other guests should plan accordingly. There is also a slight language barrier in English, so for those looking a more detailed recommendations of the spanish speaking portions of Punta Cana should check elsewhere.
Overall the hostel was clean, and the location was excellent. Those who are independent travelers will love the location and proximity to the world class resorts for an excellent price!
Great Hostel and very friendly owners. The best reccomendations!!!
Andrey and Valentina are very nice hosts, making sure you feel at home. We had a private double room with en suite bath. The room was huge and very clean. There is a fully equipped kitchen. The neighbourhood is good, there is a supermarket next door and its a approx 15 minute walk to the beach. I would definitely stay there again!
We had a good time staying at GAVA Hostel. Andrew and Valentina are great hosts, very kind and helpful. They did everything to make their home a cosy and sweet place for their quests. Highly recommend!
It was a great time in Bavaro and GAVA Hostel is a realy nice place to stay there. Andrew and Valentina are very friendly and make you the stay more beautiful.
I had an absolutely amazing time at GAVA hostel. Andrew and Valentine are great hosts! (Their English is basic but good enough.) They keep the place organized and clean, and they have lots of great information about tours and ways to get around inexpensively.
As a woman traveling alone I felt the hostel provided everything I needed and more! I stayed in the private room with the self-contained bathroom. It's a great size room (ideal for couples) and I had the perfect blend of privacy and opportunities to socialize.
The location of the hostel is nice - a short walk to the beach or (in the opposite direction) to the large shopping plaza/mall. It's also nice to have the pool in the back.
The only drawback is that there is a bit of noise at night. I recommend closing the windows and using the fan or air conditioner to block out the noise. Once I did that, I slept like a baby and lived like a queen (on a budget). Seriously, if you don't need the trimmings of a hotel, and you're looking for a relatively inexpensive, convenient, friendly place to stay in Bavaro-Punta Cana, go to GAVA hostel!
