The Space

Private Bedroom with shared Bathroom with a stunning view of Waimea Canyon. Lay in bed and look out the window at the stunning cliff;s of the world famous Waimea Canyon. This room has a real bed . Enter the room through the island style decorated main house with it's high vaulted ceilings, local artist touch and hardwood bamboo floors. The bathroom is beautifully decorated with custom bamboo wall paintings.

The room is part of a brand new 4 bedroom home with beautiful view of Waimea Canyon on the Island of Kauai. Waimea Canyon is called the Grand Canyon of the Pacific by Mark Twain. Our house sits near beautiful cliffs and you can walk across our property to sit by the Waimea River.

Our house sits on 1 acre and is located less than 3 miles from town, hiking kayaking, ocean beaches.

A beautiful modern kitchen is set up to accommodate those with healthy sensitivities. I am gluten free so our kitchen and pantry are managed to avoid cross contamination. I have a large spice collection and some basic gluten free/dairy free baking essentials on hand. Do not bring foods containing gluten into the kitchen..
Our property has several producing papaya trees and our garden has tomatoes, kale, collards,, parsley, and occasionally other seasonal vegetables are available. Guests may eat the produce during their stay. Additional healthy produce can be purchased at near by farmers markets.

. Large common screened deck area has a hammock, swinging lounge chairs a ping pong and ladder ball. It is a great place to relax and look out over the garden view between the house and the river. The house and property have a lot of space. The rooms are large and the neighboring houses are not to close to our house.

Our beautifully decorated living room with it's vaulted ceilings and spacious layout also has a a comfortable couch, WIFI is available for guest use.

There are beautiful walks from the property. You can walk to the river (1/4 mile) and to the beach (2 miles)

Most guests who visit the island rent a car. Our house is 1 an 3/4 miles from downtown Waimea. In town there is a bus stop which will get you to any town on the island. Bus fare is $2.

Waimea town has a theater, a historic tour, a technology center, small shops which sell local Hawaiian products and two grocery stores one which includes a fresh fish market and they also sell local beef. The famous Historic Hanapepe Art Night on Friday nights with its live music, artists and fresh food is only ten minutes away.

Many activities are available in the area including a boat tour of the Napali Coast, surfing, snorkeling kayaking, fishing, beach walking, helicopter tours, a downhill bike tour, zip lining, canyon hikes, scuba diving, and horseback riding.

Guests will have access to the shared kitchen deck and bathroom.

We both work. so guests should be prepared to be independent. However w like to meet our guest and share our adventures on Kauai and hear about places our guests have lived and traveled.

Guest Access

Shared living room, gluten free kitchen, WIFI, hammock, ping pong table, beach chairs, boogie boards, and beach towels.

Interaction with Guests

My husband and I work full time so our ability to socialize with our guests depends on what is going on with our work. We are very social and will sometimes invite our guests to play music, board games and pot luck with us. If we are busy with work please respect our need to not be social. If you want your own space and prefer not to socialize we will respect you as well. Let us know your preferences as we want you to enjoy your vacation.

  • We had a great time in Kauai in the house of Mitch and Sharon. They are very kind and friendly and they were always trying to help us when we needed it so it was great. Also, their home is simply awesome. Located directly in the canyons, the view is amazing. We highly recommend to stay in the house of them during your trip in Kauai, really ! However, you will need to rent a car because everything is quite far by walk (We experienced it !)

  • This was our first time in an Airbnb and Mitch and Sharon made it an absolutely fabulous experience. They welcomed us literally with open arms when we arrived and gave us full run of their beautiful home. They made recommendations as to where to go and made sure we had everything we needed for a great visit in Waimea Canyon. It was fun to be out all day and come “home” to share our experiences. At the same time Sharon and Mitch were very respectful of our privacy, even setting us up on the balcony for a quiet candlelight dinner of our own. We only stayed a few days with them and then went on to stay in vacation rentals on the east side and north shore which felt much less personable. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend a stay with Sharon and Mitch to anyone, it greatly enhanced our experience on the south side.

  • Staying at Sharon and Mitch's place was a highlight of my trip to Kauai. The environment surrounding their property is unlike anywhere I'd ever experienced. In the mouth of Waimea Canyon this part of Kauai is not like the busy locations found in the tourist brochures. With kind knowledgeable hosts that truly love the outdoors they are happy to help direct you to some truly spectacular nature.

  • Mitch and Sharon are great! We stayed for a couple of nights and loved the room, the house, and the location, which is perfect for exploring Waimea Canyon. Mitch and Sharon are very kind and welcoming hosts that permeate the aloha spirit. Mitch even showed us where the biggest bee hive we have ever seen. Thank you!

  • Mitch and Sharon were very nice hosts. I played the ukulele with Mitch, and Sharon offered a small tour of her garden and to grab papayas from her trees. The living room and outdoor desk was huge and you are free to hang out there as much as you want as Mitch and Sharon live downstairs. A little cons is that the picture (the one with the canyon and the rainbow) and the description is somewhat misleading as it is not the stunning view I naively expected of the Waimea canyon (not knowing anything about it), but all in all it is a great value given all the space, the hosts, the price, and the fact that the view was still nice.

  • This place is so nice and peacefull that I could be tempted not to testify so that it stays free everytime I book a new trip to Waimea Canyon ...
This is a perfect place for relaxing holidays in the nature, beautiful and quiet garden with all exotic fruits and vegtables which you can eat any time.
Sharon and Mitch were always checking on me to provide assistance. Perfect host and perfect place to be for some peacefull time and hiking adventures. Thank you so much for these beautiful days in your house.

  • Staying with Sharon and Mitch was a treat.Their home is beautiful and the location is perfect for exploring the south/west side of the island. Sharon and Mitch were extremely helpful whenever we had any questions, gave us great recommendations, and were overall perfect hosts. We were able to enjoy fresh fruit from their backyard and even got to chop down a banana tree! Staying with Sharon and Mitch will remain a memorable and special part of our trip to Kauai.

About
Happily Married ( in photos with my husband Mitch and my grown children Megan, Alex and Chris Outdoors person. Hiking, surfing, swimming, biking College professor Christian Love books and reading Meeting people form other countries Learning new languages Gluten intolerant and can not eat wheat, barley or rye I eat healthy and try to stay in shape. I have put a room in my house in airbnb and here is what I like of my guests. I am also this kind of guest. I like a guest that wants to explore on their own. If time allows I like to hike with you. Frequently I am very busy so it is important that guests are independent and want to go and explore on their own. A guest at my house will be self directed. I have a full time career and will not be able to show you around. However I am very social and look forward to meeting you. Staying here will be similar to staying at a hostel in that you are self directed, make your own plans, do your own thing and clean up after yourself. The only exception is that the accommodations are nicer. My house is clean but, I do work full time so I keep my prices low and my rooms livable. If you like immaculate places where you are waited on, this is not the place for you.
