I have a charming Tudor style house located next to a prominent college in a lovely area of town. There are markets (Wegman's), restaurants, Starbucks and a movie theater with a 1-2 radius.
I am located about 50 minutes from Philadelphia, and less than 2 hours from NYC. There is public transportation to both of these cities. There are 5+ colleges located in the area, including Muhlenberg, Lehigh, Lafayette and Moravian.
You will have access to the kitchen. There is a full bath located near the bedroom. There is free internet and cable.
My design studio is not in my home. My dogs come to work with me.
There is some public transportation nearby. There are great parks within walking distance. There is a car rental company (Enterprise) nearby that will pick you up if you want to rent a car.
This rental is for one bedroom with a queen size bed. Arrangements can be made for a second bedroom, which also has a queen size bed.
No smoking. No pets. Safe street parking in lovely neighborhood.
Marla's home is in a very nice neighborhood. We had a brief conversation with her shortly after our arrival. Although the house description says there are 2.5 bathrooms, Marla emailed us while we were en route to say we would share a bathroom with her. There is no bed frame or headboard (the mattress and box springs are on the floor). We used a space heater overnight.
Marla chatted with us and we both got to share a little a bit ourselves. Great to meet new people who have shared interests.
Marla is a great host. Even though she was out of town when we were scheduled to arrive, she left very clear instructions about how to find the key to get into her home. Her home is lovely, in a quiet residential neighborhood, with easy on-street parking, and everything is just as she described it and as her other reviewers described it. Our room was spacious, comfortable and clean, and the bed is comfortable. We had no problem finding our way around the kitchen. We did get to meet Marla towards the end of our stay, and she is warm and gracious. We would certainly be happy to go back for a return visit.
We had a great experience staying here. Our host (Marla) responded to all communications very promptly and our room was as advertised. We met her briefly during our stay and she was friendly and helpful! The bed was firm and comfortable. The neighborhood is beautiful and safe and it was a pleasure being a guest in her lovely home. We will be back!
Oh wow, where do I begin? First of all, when I arrived at Marla's house, she was out of town but she had given me kind information all I needed in advance so I could get into her house without any problem and feel at home. And the neighborhood was very safe and above all, the town was so beautiful with fall foliage.
But the highlight of the stay is…. that I was seriously sick one night. I had such a bad pain in my belly and had to go to ER. She took me to a hospital and she stayed with me until my condition stabilized. (Now I'm totally fine but) at that time my condition was really bad. Being sick away form home and alone is one of the most horrible things you could experience. But it wasn't so bad as she was there for me. She was a huge help. I can't thank her enough. I hope I will travel to beautiful Allentown again someday and return her favor somehow!
Marla's home was charming and just as expected from the listing. Although our paths didn't cross until the 2nd night of our 2-night stay, Marla left directions and had everything ready for our arrival. The location was perfect for our needs. Bring your sneakers if you like to walk--she's near a city park with lovely walking trails. The bed was very comfortable with a cozy comforter and lots of clean towels. We enjoyed our conversation and look forward to staying with Marla again.
Marla is an energetic, creative person and gracious hostess. Her period 1930's home is set in a beautiful and convenient neighborhood in Allentown. I was able to use my cozy room at Marla's as homebase to hike waterfalls in the Poconos; wander through the historic Moravian settlement in Bethlehem; join in a riverside Arts Festival in Easton on the New Jersey border; tour the Rodale Farms in Kutztown and Emmaus and perform geneological research in the historic coal mining towns of northeastern PA as well as much more - all within a few minutes to an hour's drive and all within my 3 day stay.
Marla's home is kitty corner to Muhlenberg College and would be perfect for alumni or visiting your college kids.
Marla went out of her way to accommodate me and I am grateful for the opportunity to stay with her. She was both open and fun to talk with as well as respectful of my privacy. Her home would appeal to travelers that appreciate vintage 30's architecture and decor. All facilities are shared with Marla and her puppies when she is not working out of town and possibly other guests. Good food and historic areas are nearby, but the neighborhood is regal and quiet.
