As you can see from the photos, this home is open air design facing the jungle with a green belt river in back. Upstairs shower has views of lush terraced rice paddies . This top floor suite has a spectacular tree-house feel. You can literally touch the treetops. Beautiful gardens surround our stunning new natural stone swimming pool. Its a hide-away kind of place, for a great escape from city life and a chance to meet Balinese and observe their real way of life away from tourist areas.
All bedrooms have queen size beds with bed net canopy. There are two en-suite bedrooms with private bath. The master suite includes the entire top floor. The second suite is on the ground floor.. Dining room & kitchen are located in the new wing. Both bedroom suites have either a terrace or balcony overlooking the new pool. A "bonus bedroom" we call the Jungle Room is perfect for overflow sleeping. Access is outside in the lower garden. So, kitchen, dining, & living rooms are available for your exclusive use...you are renting the complete property.
For optional $5/day cleaning fee, our staff will clean the house , make the beds, clean up the kitchen, and service the garden and the pool. Good outside laundry service is available at very reasonable local Bali rates. We have a breakfast menu, offering American, continential, or Indonesian breakfast for about $3 per person. Our cook is also available for hire to cook lunch or dinners for your group. She mostly knows Bali or simple Indonesian cooking.
Our house manager, Kadek, who has a nice car & speaks English well, is available for island tours or basic daily transport. Airport pickup / drop off service ( $30). Local trips or auto tours cost about $6/hr including petrol.
Wireless Wi-Fi available. When I'm here I work on my computer by tethering to portable hotspot with a 3g smart phone, The signal is usually ok because we have a cell tower on our street. I created this listing & other websites this way. We have a hotspot wireless device for guest use, or if thats not working you can borrow our extra Samsung phone.
. Please read our guest reviews ... they give a realistic picture of the Honey Tree Villa experience. Our location is central to everything on Bali ( we are in the geographic center of the island) but you will need some means of transport. We have three multi speed bikes available free for your use. You can rent a car or motor scooter rather cheaply ( we will help you if you want) and drive yourself. The most convenient mode of getting around Bali is to use Kadek's very affordable car & driver/guide service. Its almost as cheap as driving yourself, and much more relaxing.
If you are lucky enough to spend a month or more on Bali, consider using Honey Tree Villa as your home base. Our monthly rate is so affordable, you can go off on overnight trips from time to time, for surfing, scuba, city night life, or whatever adventures your Bali heart desires. :) I do it myself, when I come for two or three months each winter. I like to scuba, for example, so I might go to Amed or Tulamben or Lombok for a few days. After a period of hard play in the sun, its so good to return to the refreshing green oasis of the Honey Tree.
Long stay or short, our staff will help you with any of your needs. Bed linens, towels, kitchen utensils, soap all included in the price. Gardener & pool service included. Every morning the yard is swept clean of leaves that have fallen the night before.
In short... Life is sweet at the Honey Tree ! :)
You are renting the whole property and all its equipment, including 3 multi speed bicycles.BBQ grill. Swimming pool. 3 bedrooms. Whole house and all the grounds.
Interaction with Guests
Guests will have the property to themselves, but staff will be on site morning and evening to provide guest services.
Our location in central Bali is a convenient starting point for island touring, instead of fighting traffic for your first hour of touring, as you must do in South Bali, here the beauty of rural bali is all around you from the moment you step outside your door! That's why I bought land here. Its off the beaten tourist path, still authentic rice farming area with stunning terraced rice paddies, green belt jungle, and traditonal village life.
Our manager Kadek will meet your flight or come to your hotel to transport you to Honey Tree for $30. Once here, you can hire Kadek by the hour to tour or shop, use our free bicycles, rent motor bike, or rent self drive car. No public transport in the village. We can drop you in Ubud at bus terminal if you want.
Other Things to Note
Tourist infrastructure, such as western resturants, do not exist in the village. Stock up your kitchen!!
Expect to drive when you want to eat out. Minimart and Indonesian restaurants 10 minutes away. Ubud is 30 minutes away. There you will find thousands of travelers, and hundreds of resturants, shops, and complete tourist facilities of every kind. Bad news. Ubud also has a traffic problem.too much of a good thing. Still fun to visit.
Families are very welcome. Our youngest guest so far was 11 days old! Some balcony railings are low so please take care, especially if you have very active young children. Also, this is a multi-level home. If you have problems climbing stairs the top floor may be inaccessable to you. Please consider your situation before booking. Please, no smoking in the house. Keep glasses and bottles away from the swimming pool. The pool is deep- please take care with your children! Enough rules :-) have a wonderful stay!
We had a wonderful experience staying at the Honey Tree Villa!
The villa was really great and exactly what we were looking for. It is an outdoor house with no walls. It feels like you are living in a tree house right beside nature. The first night it was a little difficult to fall asleep because you hear all the outside noise from insects/roosters/dogs, but it's really a special experience. If you are looking for a luxury villa it may not be for you; there will be bugs, ants, geckos... The pool in the front is beautiful and great to cool off or lay by and read a book. We also loved having coffee upstairs on the patio looking out into the forest. The upstairs bathroom has hot water, enough for two quick showers back to back. The beds were covered with mosquito nets. We also loved having Jacksie, the house dog ; she is very sweet and loves to be around people.
The location is really isolated in the middle of the jungle and rice fields. It is close to Ubud, but in order to drive there you must go pretty far south in order to cross a bridge over a river to then drive back up a bit to Ubud. Total driving time is around 25-30 minutes to get into the city. If you are looking to go into the city a lot, there might be better options closer by.
The house is serviced by a local named Kadek and his wife Madé. Kadek is on standby for most of the things you might need during your stay. He picked us up from the airport to drive us to the house ($30 USD) and since we arrived at night it would have been difficult to find otherwise (an alternative option would be to ask for the GPS coordinates of the house and hire an Uber from the airport). Madé cooks an amazing breakfast every day for $3 USD. They were very kind and invited us to their village to see a ceremony for the Puri Rath Yatra festival. We used Kadek to transport back and forth to Ubud as well as a day trip around to see several sites (Traditional Balinese Dance, Goa Gajah Elephant Temple, Tirta Empul Holy Water Temple, Kintamani lookout over Lake Batur, rice paddies in Tegalalang). Unfortunately we felt that Kadek did not have our best interests in mind as he seemed to steer us toward places where he might get some sort of kickback reward. He took us to a silver shop (Dewi Sitha) that was a complete tourist trap with high pressure sales women; also when we asked for a good cheap Balinese massage he took us to a place charging $30 usd, when most 1hr massages around go for (phone number hidden) IDR ($10-15 AUD). Kadek was very kind, but overall his prices were not in line with the going rates.
Jack was pleasant/easy to communicate with, we would definitely consider staying again.
We had a great week at Honey Tree Villa. Jack organised our airport transfer with Kadek and he remained available throughout our stay to help with anything we needed. Kadek's wife Made made lovely breakfasts for us.
The Villa was perfect for us as it was just me, my wife and our 6 year old daughter. I'm not sure how it would work with larger groups as the upstairs bedroom is great, but the others not so much. Only the en suite bathroom of the upstairs bedroom has hot water.
The pool and garden are fantastic, offering privacy and the perfect place to relax and swim.
Be prepared for some late(ish) night and early morning noise as music / chanting and neighbourhood roosters were the norm during our stay.
Although the Villa is isolated we were expecting this and Kadek was helpful in organising day trips for us. Ubud village is about 30 minutes away by car and a car trip is necessary to see any sights or to go shopping. Stock up on anything you need and you can just relax at the Villa.
Overall, great villa for the price and a very relaxing stay.
I stayed at the Honey Tree Villa for 6 days with my parents. It was an amazing experience, we loved everything about the Villa especially Jackse the dog. I will forever remember my morning coffees watching the sun come up with Jackse. The booking process was great and Jack was very prompt in responding to our queries. He arranged for our pick up at the airport and gave us the drivers cell number which gave us piece of mind. Kadek our driver was absolutely amazing. We used him quite a bit during our stay, he was really helpful in planning our sightseeing and was always smiling and cheerful no matter how long we kept him waiting. His wife Made cooked wonderful breakfasts for us every day and I still think her Nasi Goreng was the best I had in Bali. Kadek and Made made our stay special and are truly an asset to the villa. I would highly recommend a stay at Honey Tree when visiting Bali.
The experience was not exactly what we expected.
The villa is located in a beautiful area with amazing landscape but very isolated too. And thus, the transport is complicated and it is difficult to be autonomous from Kadek and organize your journey and your shopping like you wish.
One amazing room but two others not very functional and damp.
No internet and very low hot water.
I highly recommend Honey Tree Villa for those who have been to Bali before and/or do not want to be in the touristy hub. Serene, clean and well tended Honey Tree quickly feels like a home. Kadek, the house manager was there to greet us and show us the property. He is very helpful and respectful. Although he comes each day to tidy the property he is only a phone call away if needed for anything. Kadek's English is quite good and he enjoys sharing Balinese culture. We were charmed by the big smiles, curiosity and kindness of everyone in the village of Jempeng. Thanks Kadek and Jack!
Jack is a very responsive and helpful host, and provided us with all the information needed from the first moment. Kadek, who was the person who picked us up and drove us around is a very friendly person and he made sure that our stay was comfortable.
The place is pretty much what you see on the description, just be aware that this is really an open air house, which means it's open to "intrusions" from insects, birds etc. I personally enjoyed sleeping with the sound of the cicadas at night, but the lack of air conditioning might not be for everyone.
The neighborhood feels truly local and a place where families stay, but for grocery or food you have to drive. Also, be aware that the internet is quite flaky and XL Axiata has no 3G coverage there.
Thanks for the feedback Panos. The third bedroom is accessed from the lower garden. It is not used that much so if you didn't ask about it Kadek might forget to show it to you. The whole property was available for your use.
You are right, we need to start servicing rooms more like a hotel, because our bookings have evolved in the hotel substitute direction. When you rent a home you normally bring your own toiletries, but a hotel provides that. So we shall too. Thanks for the advice!
We spent only three nights an Honey Tree Villa, but it is worth to spend more! The airport transport of Kadek was perfect and he offered a lot of possibilities for activities for the next day. He also showed us the whole accommodation, which is stunning! The first night was kinda difficult to fall asleep, but the following ones were great. If you book Honey Tree Villa you have to know, that this is a open house - you will hear a lot of sounds all around you the whole night and day. There will be some Mosquitos or geckos around you, but you also feel the nature and it's beauty. So I fully recommend this villa: the pool, the house, Kadeks service and of course Jacksi! About our tours with Kadek: they were amazing! He told us so much about Bali and its people, showed us great places and restaurants and was very very friendly. Thanks for that Kadek.
