About this listing
Green design villa in rural Bali 30- 40 minutes from Ubud, 1 hour from airport. Prime location as a base for bicycle tours, trekking, cultural tourism, white water rafting, or just a beautiful place to rest. New natural stone swimming pool. Private!
Honey Tree is open air design facing the jungle with a green belt river in back. Upstairs shower has views of lush terraced rice paddies . The top floor bedroom has a spectacular tree-house feel. You can literally touch the treetops. This space is glassed in with windows that open and is air conditioned space although I prefer to sleep with the windows open as the nights are cool. Beautiful gardens surround our stunning new natural stone swimming pool. Its a hide-away kind of place, for a great escape from city life and a chance to meet Balinese and observe their real way of life away from tourist areas. We have three multi speed bikes available free for your use.
All bedrooms have queen size beds with bed net canopy. There are two en-suite bedrooms with private bath. The master suite includes the entire top floor. The second suite is on the ground floor.. Dining room & kitchen are located in the new wing. Both bedroom suites have either a terrace or balcony overlooking the new pool. A "bonus bedroom" we call the Jungle Room is perfect for overflow sleeping. Access is outside in the lower garden. So, kitchen, dining, & living rooms are available for your exclusive use...you are renting the complete property.
Recently we lost the cell signal at the villa for some unknown reason but you can connect to the internet at several places nearby. Kadek will help you. If you must have high speed internet connection 24/7, please do not book the Villa! We can provide good access to the internet a few times a day. Here is the set up. We provide portable wireless Wi-Fi connection using a loaner Samsung tablet or phone. You access the internet wirelessly using your own device or ours. The signal is good at our other property in the village, called Honey Tree Lodge ( 5 minutes drive from the villa- free transport provided). You are welcome to use that facility for your communication needs. You will also be able to access the internet most of the time while traveling around by car. All you need to connect is a usable cell signal. Our guests visit websites, post photos, hold online meetings, book tickets, and do email without difficulty at Honey Tree Lodge.
Good outside laundry service is available at very reasonable local Bali rates. We have a breakfast menu, offering American, continental, or Indonesian breakfast for about $3 per person. Our English speaking cook is also available for hire to cook lunch or dinners for your group, about $5 per person. She mostly knows Bali or simple Indonesian cooking. Delicious take-out food is also available. Try the nasi Padang!
Our location is central to everything on Bali ( we are in the geographic center of the island) but you will need some means of transport. You can rent a car or motor scooter rather cheaply ( we will help you if you want) and drive yourself. The most convenient mode of getting around Bali is to use Kadek's very affordable car & driver/guide service. Its almost as cheap as driving yourself, and much more relaxing. Our house manager, Kadek, speaks English well, is available for island tours or basic daily transport. Airport pickup / drop off service ( $30). Local trips or auto tours cost about $6/hr including petrol.
Please read our guest reviews ... Most give a realistic picture of the Honey Tree Villa experience. Lodging in a true Balinese village to not for everyone. If you are looking for a tourist resort environment, our villa will not be right for you.
If you are lucky enough to spend a month or more on Bali, consider using Honey Tree Villa or Honey Tree Lodge as your home base. Our monthly rate is so affordable, you can go off on overnight trips from time to time, for surfing, scuba, city night life, or whatever adventures your Bali heart desires. :) I do it myself, when I come for two or three months each winter. After a period of hard play diving or surfing in the sun, its so good to return to the refreshing green oasis of the Honey Tree.
Long stay or short, our staff will help you with any of your needs. Bed linens, towels, kitchen utensils, soap all included in the price. Gardener & pool service included. Every morning the yard is swept clean of leaves that have fallen the night before.
In short... Life is sweet at the Honey Tree ! :)
You are renting the whole property and all its equipment, including 3 multi speed bicycles.BBQ grill. Swimming pool. 3 bedrooms. Whole house and all the grounds. You are also welcome to visit The Lodge & use it as an internet café.
Interaction with guests
You will be met at the property upon arrival. Guests will have the property to themselves, but staff will be on site morning and evening to provide guest services.
Our location in central Bali is a convenient starting point for island touring, instead of fighting traffic for your first hour of touring, as you must do in South Bali, here the beauty of rural bali is all around you from the moment you step outside your door! That's why I bought land here. Its off the beaten tourist path, still authentic rice farming area with stunning terraced rice paddies, green belt jungle, and traditonal village life. To find the villa on maps search for Honey Tree Villa, Abiansemal, Badung Regency, Bali, Indonesia.
Our manager Kadek can meet your flight or come to your hotel to transport you to Honey Tree for about $30. Once here, you can hire Kadek by the hour ( about $6/hr) to tour or shop, use our free bicycles, rent motor bike, or rent self drive car. No public transport in the village. Kadek will transport you around the village area for free. For directions to the Villa or any services you need call Kadek .
Other things to note
Tourist infrastructure, such as western resturants, do not exist in the village. Stock up your kitchen!! Ask Kadek about Indonesian take-out food. Padang food is cheap & delicious.
Expect to drive, but not too far, when you want to eat out. Minimart and Indonesian restaurants 10 minutes away. Ubud is 30 -45 minutes away. There you will find thousands of travelers, and hundreds of resturants, shops, and complete tourist facilities of every kind. Bad news. Ubud also has a traffic problem. Too much of a good thing. Still fun to visit.
Families are very welcome. Our youngest guest so far was 11 days old! Some balcony railings are low so please take care, especially if you have very active young children. Also, this is a multi-level home. If you have problems climbing stairs the top floor may be inaccessable to you. Please consider your situation before booking. Please, no smoking in the house. Keep glasses and bottles away from the swimming pool. The pool is deep- please take care with your children! Enough rules :-) have a wonderful stay!
Split my time between mid-coast Maine & my house in the village in Bali. Been traveling since age 5. Grew up in South Pacific & S.E. Asia. Active as a real estate broker & director of Health Access Sumbawa, an anti-malaria social program. Hobbies include adventure travel, kayaking, cycling, and just started paddle boarding. I've seen a lot of the world, and for me Bali is as good as it gets. Enjoy making new friends & sharing what I have with them.
