A little bit of Terlingua/Marfa “glamping” in the heart of Downtown Austin! (& in a great neighborhood). Our Artistic "Casita Roja" retreat (little red "treehouse" cabin) is nestled in the tree-line & overlooks the woods. You get all the creature comforts (A/C, heat, hot shower, kitchen) with the overall feeling that you are a very special guest in an extension of our very special property. Within a mile from SOCO Shopping/Food District. (NOTE: Winding and uneven pathway and multiple stairs).

The space
Our jewel is our outdoor space! The backdoor of the Casita Roja leads to a quarter-acre outdoor courtyard that includes a 3-tiered waterfall, pond & fire pit surrounded by Live Oak trees and lush bamboo. We live on-site, but the "treehouse" cabin is a little oasis overlooking a 3-tiered waterfall and pond. There's a small fire pit, and room to spread out. Relax in the heart of Austin, but feel like you are in nature. Our aesthetic is very "Keep Austin Weird” mixed with Boho Terlingua/Marfa Cool: Artistic, bohemian & eclectic. We're "Frida Kahlo meets Willie Nelson". Homey and laid-back, with a touch of throw-back to old (and rapidly disappearing) Austin. We are located in a safe and very scenic neighborhood--one of the oldest in Austin--with lots of sprawling old oak trees and "interesting" (not cookie-cutter) houses. We think it's important to be at least a little cognizant of the area where your potential Airbnb rental is located with relation to safety, so it should be good to know that we are surrounded by long-term families (no apartment complexes where we are). We are continuously decorating so pics may be a little different from what you get!

Guest access
We like to give our guests their space, however we are available via text should you need anything or have any questions (the best way to reach us)! We only ask that you alert us right away should you have any questions or concerns after you check-in, and that you allow us the opportunity to address it for you.

Other things to note

PETS:
Dogs are welcome with a one-time pet fee ($40 when you arrive).

SMOKING:
Absolutely no smoking or vaping in indoor spaces (Security deposit will be charged)

CITY OF AUSTIN OCCUPANCY TAX:
All licensed “short term rentals” in Austin are required to collect and remit a separate occupancy tax (9%) to the City Comptroller’s office, in addition to a venue tax (2%), for a total of 11%. Airbnb currently collects the 6% State of Texas occupancy tax and submits it in a lump sum from all Texas Airbnb’s to the State Controller’s office...so when you see tax in Airbnb, that’s what that is. If no one has ever asked you for separate tax from an Airbnb in Austin, it’s either because they aren’t licensed Short Term Rental and so they either don’t know they’re supposed to collect it or they are just operating illegally...OR they just subtract something from what Airbnb pays them out of their profit and submit that to the City Comptroller, but that’s probably not the best business practice. I know it’s confusing and a pain in the butt (it is for us, too!). But until Airbnb collects the City taxes as well, we have to do it separately like this. The only thing that Airbnb requires is that we not collect it until after guests have checked in (like, not before the date of check-in). Payable by credit card, cash, check or Ven or Payp apps).

KIDS (AND PETS):
Please accompany your little ones, furry or not, in all of our outdoor spaces. We are not liable for accidents or dogs who are escape artists!

Neighborhood highlights

Travis Heights neighborhood is one of the oldest and with the most character in Austin. The houses are a mix of 1930's bungalows, old-school mansions and brand new modern glass/metal architecture. Most notable are the plethora of giant oak trees and the green spaces: 10 minute walk to Stacey Park or the newly constructed Butler Trail along Lady Bird Lake. This is a very wooded, lush green neighborhood. We have lots of natural habitat! Our ideal guests are nature aficionados who don't mind our critter neighbors :-)
