Description

A unique opportunity to live on a four story floating house on a beautiful and serene bay just 40 minutes from NYC. The area offers beaches, water sports, fining dining, unique shops and much more, all accessible by car or water taxi, or the Long Island Railroad.

This residence is a privately owned 4 story "Float Home" with a roof deck located in Manhasset Bay, Port Washington, NY. It is moored, full time, at a beautiful Marina. Neighbors include other houseboats, pleasure boats and bountiful water fowl.

The town of Port Washington is a Jewel on the North Shore of Long Island, . part of the "Great Gatsby" legendary Gold Coast.

It is an area that is famous for it harbors, water sports, boutiques, antique shops and fine dining. There is even a "water taxi" to transport you from houseboat to other points of interest along the shoreline.
The home includes, 1 1/2 bathrooms, 3 bedrooms, central AC and Heat, woodburning fireplace, full appliances. The top deck is and open area with a full view of the harbor. Located 40 minutes from Manhattan by car or train. day trips to the Big Apple are easily accessible.

If you ever dreamt about what life on a Houseboat would be like, this is your opportunity to have the unique experience. It is also extremely romantic for for those seeking a private getaway. There is nothing quite like it.

There are boat and kayak rentals as well as excursion trips around the Statue of Liberty in New York Harbor.

Many questions and answers are exchanged before the actually booking. Once my guests are checked in they have total access to me and my daughter, who lives in the neighborhood.

The houseboat has four levels and is not handicapped accessible.

Being that this residence is on water, all activities are expected to be ecologically safe. The toilets are pumped out once a week by the Marina. All other water (grey water) drains naturally into the Bay. Most of this area is a natural preserve and keeping our waters clean is a must.
I prefer adult guests but exceptions can be made for older children (over 8yrs.).
And no pets are allowed.
Fishing off the boat is encouraged, swimming is not.

First of all this is a boat. It is a beautifully appointed houseboat but still a boat, so it has all the things you would expect to find in a boat, such as marine heads - toilets, and steps from one level to the other with handrails in case the boat is rocking. Some reviewers do not seem to understand this, or perhaps did not read the description. I have a sailboat and am familiar with interiors such as this. My 81 year old mother had no problems negotiating the steps. The inside has a lot of wood decor, with bedrooms mostly on the bottom floor - we were four people and were quite comfortable. If not for the water you would feel as if you were in a cabin in the woods. Yes the televisions are in the bedrooms but we don't watch much TV anyway especially when we are away. There is a very nice Bose system on the main floor. We had a small gathering for a birthday party and everyone was comfortable and enjoyed the experience. The outside is great. There seems to be a constant school of different fish in the marina, along with shore birds - we saw some of them eat the fish! There is a patio space on the very top with a BBQ but it was too cool for us to use this time of year. There is a water taxi available which we took to a restaurant for $4 pp! Nice experience and no worries about driving and parking. The owners, Ellen and her daughter Daniel were always available by phone and text message. Daniel gave us a tour of the boat and showed us how everything worked. We would very much like to come back when the weather is warmer. T&A

If you want to stay in an unsafe, dirty, smelly, uncared for residence then this is it. The toilets are filthy, barely usuable, and in need of replacement. The decor is hideous. There are many stairways. To get from one room to the other you have to use steps that are like ladders and are extremely high so that you have to pull yourself up the stairs with bars. There is one set of stairs whose edges are like razors and that are rusty. When you turn on the heat, it sounds like a low thunder. It is freezing at night and the heat does not go downstairs to the bedroom areas at all. Blankets would have helped but there were none. There is no central area to hang out. If you want to watch the TV, go up three flights, and sit in an uncomfortable, ripped chair. If you need to use the bathroom, go up three flights. There are restrictions on the bathrooms, and enough said about this. This was an exhausting and terrible experience and if you need to relax, this is not the place. The owner is unavailable and ignores your requests. This residence was not properly described, so beware.

All of our Airbnb experiences all across the world have never disappointed, neither did this. This was awesome! Ellen met us at the boat, showed us the in's and out's...literally (you'll know what i mean when you book this) and even left us bagels! The photos and description were exact. How cool staying in a great. There was even a water taxi to take us across the bay whenever we wanted to restaurants and town. Such an excellent time...and the top deck was heaven at night. Thanks again Ellen, won't hesitate to recommend this to everyone we know. Elyse and Michael

What an amazing experience and beautiful spot! Ellen was so welcoming and her houseboat is truly a special place! My two kids had a blast staying there and my in-laws who live locally had never seen manhasset bay from this POV. Very special stay!
