About This Listing
This residence is a privately owned 4 story "Float Home" with a roof deck located in Manhasset Bay, Port Washington, NY. It is moored, full time, at a beautiful Marina. Neighbors include other houseboats, pleasure boats and bountiful water fowl.
The town of Port Washington is a Jewel on the North Shore of Long Island, . part of the "Great Gatsby" legendary Gold Coast.
It is an area that is famous for it harbors, water sports, boutiques, antique shops and fine dining. There is even a "water taxi" to transport you from houseboat to other points of interest along the shoreline.
The home includes, 1 1/2 bathrooms, 3 bedrooms, central AC and Heat, woodburning fireplace, full appliances (inc washer and dryer). The top deck is and open area with a full view of the harbor. Located 40 minutes from Manhattan by car or train. day trips to the Big Apple are easily accessible.
If you ever dreamt about what life on a Houseboat would be like, this is your opportunity to have the unique experience. It is also extremely romantic for for those seeking a private getaway. There is nothing quite like it.
Being that this residence is on water, all activities are expected to be ecologically safe. The toilets are pumped out once a week by the Marina. All other water (grey water) drains naturally into the Bay. Most of this area is a natural preserve and keeping our waters clean is a must.
I prefer adult guests but exceptions can be made for older children (over 8yrs.).
And no pets are allowed.
Fishing off the boat is encouraged, swimming is not.
Ellen's daughter met me and was charming, informative and clear on all instructions. The house boat is charming and cozy! It is much larger than expected. I have extended my stay because I cant think of anywhere else I prefer to be. There are stunning views from all rooms, and it is warm and beautiful. Boats drive by the window as you are sitting at the kitchen table having tea in the morning.
Ellen's houseboat in the water is a very fun way to travel and stay as a unique get away!! Ellen could not be more accommodating to us prior to and upon arrival on our Check in date!! We were greeted by Ellen and given a bottle of wine to celebrate our houseboat vacation!! The master bedroom has a great king size bed and there was surely enough space in the house for my husband and two adult children!! The kitchen was well appointed, although the dishwasher, needs a repair or two and Ellen was right on it after we left!! The dining table and living room and top floor deck are the icing in the cake!! Where you have calming water views and peacefulness!! This boat is not for very fussy people who want very new beds, new furniture and decor!! It's simple and homey and the bathrooms need to be carefully maintained as if you were in the carribean!! Thank you Ellen for making this possible and we would book this boat again in a heartbeat!! Also the location to movies, restaurants and stores is also terrific!!
Our host Ellen welcomed us warmly and even left us a bottle of wine! She was very responsive and quickly helped us rectify a problem we had when the heat and hot water went off on our last night. The houseboat was a charming and comfortable place to stay while visiting family nearby. We would happily stay there again!
Ellen made us feel very welcome. Had a bottle of wine for us and went to great lengths to make us feel at home. Spent a lot of time orienting us to the boat. Left information about marina contacts, emergency contacts and local attractions. Went out of her way to find out about nearby tennis facilities that were of interest to us. Neighborhood was OK with good restaurant within walking distance. Working marina with other houseboats, sailboats and motor boats. Good view of the harbor.
Boat was nice with comfortable master bedroom, great AC, nice kitchen, loft and rooftop deck. Enjoyed our stay.
Ellen was incredibly communicative and met us at the house on arrival. The boat is big, air conditioned, very cozy and has a great view! It is much bigger than the photos show. Everything was perfect! It was the most relaxing part of our trip and we enjoyed coffee on the deck in the mornings! We loved our access the Louie's for dinner and made it there for Thursday night Lobster special! We also made a day trip to the South Hamptons after the rain and floods with no problem. Very easy drive. Also got the scoop from a local on the laundromats in town. The house/boat made our trip exceptional rather than a hotel. So nice!!
Ellen was a fantastic host! She was there when we arrived and made sure that we were comfortable. The boat is a great retreat and a very unique experience. This was a combination work & vacation trip. My wife and I surprised our adult kinds with this adventure and all had a great time.
Everything was perfect. The boat was very charming and comfortable. Ellen was a lovely host and treated us as personal guests. We had a lively stay.
