About this listing
Old-fashioned double bed, TV with basic TV and DVD player. Private full bath. Sliding door closes off the area like a Suite.
My neighborhood -- River Road Historic District --is quiet, green, tree-filled -- bordered by the San Antonio River and a City Golf Course -- yet it is super convenient to downtown and many SA attractions. My neighborhood is FANTASTIC for walks -- short or long.
Guest bedroom is at the front of cottage. Guest bath is on the hall and is used only by guests. The hallway is made private by a pocket door, making a little suite. Guests are welcome to sit and talk, read in the lovely living room/library. Guests may use the kitchen with fridge, microwave, coffee maker, tea kettle. Guests are welcome to sit ( including eating) on front deck ( screened-in) or back deck ( open ) -- have a glass of wine under the Italian pergola with its bubbling, lighted fountain. Note : I am a non-cook. I have a kitchen range, but I seldom use it, and it has no vent hood. So I prefer that guests not cook, beyond using the small microwave, the blender ( for smoothies) , the electric kettle for tea or the coffee maker. There are great places to eat within easy walking distance, not to mention the plethora of downtown restaurants.
Interaction with Guests
I like to meet guests when first arrived and give super-brief orientation( 2-3 minutes) ; I enjoy taking guests on a drive around my special neighborhood
( 15 minutes ). I know a great deal about inner-city SA -- restaurants, bars, clubs for live music, tourist attractions, etc. -- happy to share info. I am absolutely content to leave guests on their own. A key is hidden for them and they may come and go at any time, including very late -- or very early.
Location provides EASY walks to : Big YMCA and in that building is a cool coffee shop with Wi-Fi. Cafe voted "Best Bakery" in SA. In front of the "Y" is a major bus stop for downtown and a new bike rental station. Walk out of the cottage and in one minute you will be at a completely natural stretch of the San Antonio River. Turn south and walk to a sidewalk-size crossing for walkers or bikers. This then makes a "loop" walk of one mile from the cottage. The east side of loop is well-known by bird watching visitors ( it's on some list). If you turn north at the River, you will walk in five min. into our Brackenridge Park -- with trails, picnic areas, a major Zoo, a cool little train, Japanese Sunken Gardens ( with a renovated Tea House, and the Witte Museum -- it's a BIG park!
Yes. Two bus lines are in easy walking distance and there is a bicycle rental franchise next to one bus stop
Other Things to Note
My guest bed is termed "full" we used to say "double" -- it is not queen or king. Most guests find it very comfortable.
1. Absolutely NO SMOKING inside or out. 2. Respect driveway access of my "Back House" tenant -- a great, quiet older guy ( like me ! )
3. I ask guests not to eat in bedroom -- other than water, tea, coffee. I provide dining table and both front and back decks for eating.
4. I provide a small microwave. I have a gas range, but is has no hood -- so I don't encourage cooking on it. I am a non-cook. There is a coffee maker and an electric tea kettle. San Antonio has many fine restaurants, from inexpensive to fancy -- four are in easy walking distance from cottage. Most of my guests enjoy eating out. I ask for no extensive cooking in the kitchen.
5. No pets. My cottage is too small.
I am a long-time college English professor ; I'm currently teaching MWF through May 14.
I am very well-known and well-regarded in my small historic neighborhood. My first cousin, best buddy and close neighbor is one of the best Traditional Jazz musicians in the world ! I am quiet, love classical music, poetry, art. I am laid back, easy going. I'm an expert on much of SA, especially downtown. I have traveled a LOT around the world, especially Europe, and I have a LOT of experience (EMAIL HIDDEN)e be a tourist in SA !
