An authentic Andean community, on the outskirts of Urubamba. Being situated in the middle of the Sacred Valley, makes it ideally situated for visiting the main sacred sites in the area. The train station for Machu PIchu is just a 15 minute drive away, from where the train takes an hour and 15 minutes (this is the fastest route)
Local taxi services are reasonable, and vans are available. Airport pick up can be arranged.
The kitchen is fully equipped and there is mini market within walking distance.
Urubamba town has a wonderful daily market, and several bakeries and little stores. Numerous cafes and restaurants.
We stayed in the sacred valley from March 28-April 1, 2014. The house was a guest house of a beautiful main house outside of Urubamba, Sacred Valley, Peru. It is about 1 1/2 hours from Cusco by car. The setting was absolutely incredible and the mountains are beautiful! Dee was a wonderful and helpful host. She helped arranged our pickup at the airport and transportation to the house. The driver took us to the Llama sanctuary and Pisac market on the way down. She also arranged for a driver to take us to the Moray and Salt mines which was wonderful! She also recommended we hike back from the salt mines to Tunupu restaurant - which was wonderful! The taxi picked us up there for the ride back. She also confirmed our driver to take us to Ollantaytambo to catch the train to Machu Picchu and pick us up. She gave great recommendations for food and money exchange. She was very inviting and allowed us to roam about the beautiful property and use her pool. The scenery is truly spectacular! She was so helpful, kind, friendly and inviting. We loved visiting with her! The cottage had 3 bedrooms and 2 hot showers! There was ample space for our family of 5. There was a garden patio that was lovely to sit at in the morning. There was also a nice laundry machine and a clothes line to hang items on. We felt very safe at the house also. The reasons I rated it 4 instead of 5 stars were: there were an abundance of small ants all over the kitchen, kitchen table, and bathrooms. We also found spiders in some of our beds. I'm guessing this is normal for staying in such a wooded location. The roosters started crowing at 4am so going to bed early and earplugs were helpful. The wifi was spotty but worked enough for us to get what we needed. You do need to plan ahead to hire a taxi to go anywhere - however they are not expensive, and Dee provided a list of phone numbers and a local cell phone to use to call them. We mainly used Miguel and he only spoke spanish - he was VERY reliable. We did love our little slice of paradise. I would highly recommend it as a place to stay in the valley!
We really enjoyed our stay at Dee and Efrain's guest house. It was exactly as pictured. Dee helped us plan our daily schedule of touring and had great suggestions on what to do with children.
We also greatly enjoyed Dee and Efrain's company. We enjoyed a glass of wine with them on our last evening and it was one of the highlights of our trip. We would love to come back soon!
This cottage is a must stay if you are traveling in Peru. The house and property are just beautiful–pictures do not do it justice! It is also convenient to all the other sites in Sacred Valley.
Dee was an amazing host, and I barely had to worry about anything during my stay. She provided us with a very reliable driver, gave us lots of great tips for places to see in the area, arranged for our airport pickup and several sites to see on our way to the house, and even had a homecooked breakfast prepared for us in the morning.
I could not recommend this place enough!
Dee was GREAT! We asked her the easiest way to get to town and with no hesitation she offered to bring us. The cottage is beautiful and well maintained. The beds are very comfortable and we felt very safe. I recommend this place to anyone.
Dee & Efrain's place was super, and as people, they are the kindest people you could ever meet. Their home is about 30-40 min outside of Cuzco in the Sacred Valley which i HIGHLY recommend. It's beautiful, quiet and local. We went horseback riding, had dinner in the small town, and one night we lit the fire and played songs and chatted for hours. From the moment we arrived they had huge smiles on their faces and were available to us for everything. I have over thirty reservations under my belt, and I can honestly say this was one of my top stays with the top hosts ever.
Dee and Efrain were very responsive right form our first communication. They helped us book a driver from Cusco to their place and even provided extremely valuable tips for our trip and places to visit. Their cottage is nothing short of amazing, in a beautiful garden, a few minutes away from the centre of Urubamba.
The place is inspiring and relaxing. The cottage is spacious and clean. And Dee and Efrain are amazing guests, even inviting us to spend Christmas with them. A perfect stay and a gem location we'll keep for future trips in the area.
Dee and Efrain as the perfect hosts combined with a fabulous location and cottage make Cusco Cottages a very special experience. Dee first went out of her way to help us arrange a driver to pick us up at the airport in Cusco for a private tour through the valley, and then ensured we had some great memories to take home with us once at her place. The cottage is comfortable and roomy, and we took advantage of having a kitchen by making our own dinner the first night using ingredients from local stores.
Most people pass quickly through the Sacred Valley on their way to Machu Picchu, which is what we did the last time we were in Peru. Instead, staying here meant we could skip the touristy feel of Aguas Calientes, and yet still be able to stay at Machu Picchu until late afternoon. The train at Ollantaytambo is a 20-minute taxi ride away from Cusco Cottages. The driver was at the front door promptly in the morning and we arranged for him to pick us back up in the evening after dinner in Ollantaytambo.
The next day we woke up to a great breakfast and a walk around the tranquil property and neighborhood. Dee's staff is friendly and attentive, contributing to one the best memories of our trip.
Dee & Efrain were wonderful hosts! Their house and the view was amazing. They helped us find a driver that was able to drive us around and see the sites (He was very courteous and was extremely helpful.) Dee & Efrain also cooked us a wonderful meal because we weren't able to get the breakfast because of our hectic schedule. Thanks, Dee & Efrain!
Dee and Efrain were wonderful hosts, friendly, helpful and sociable. The cottage we stayed in was lovely although the wooden floor upstairs creaked when we walked and sounded especially loud at night. The cottage was set in a beautiful garden full of flowers, herbs, etc and our group especially enjoyed having breakfast in the garden to take all this in with the fresh morning crisp air. Everyday we had guests to greet and accompany us, her 2 lovely dogs. We wouldn't stay in any hotel in exchange for this! Was a great time for us to relax and enjoy the cottage, the garden and the sacred valley. Thanks Dee and Efrain!
The cottage at Kay Pacha: As newly weds and honeymooners, you could not ask for better lodging in the breathtaking town of Urumbamba. We were lucky enough to start our trip with 4 nights with Dee and Efrain at Kay Pacha. Let me tell you, Kay Pacha is a true gem, boasting a remarkable master bedrooom and bathroom (very romantic!). The two other bedrooms and bathroom would be perfect for an additional couple, or a mid-large sized family. The kitchen and living area were absolutely perfect, and suited our every need, and we spent more than one night in with a cozy fire, a bottle of wine, and board game because it was so lovely. The place was immaculate, and washer and dryer a huge plus. A short, pleasant walk into town or inexpensive moto-taxi ride gives you easy access to Urubamba, and buses or taxis that can take you all around the Sacred Valley at low cost.
The hosts: Dee and Efrain were outstanding in every sense of the word. Not only were they fabulous hosts; doling out recommendations for day trips, restaurants, and local highlights, but their good nature and interesting conversation made staying at Kay Pacha one of the biggest highlights of our trip.
