About This Listing
This charming one-bedroom apartment in a landmark brownstone townhouse in the Upper West Side area of Manhattan has high-ceilings, a fireplace and two planted, south-facing balconies overlooking a beautiful garden. (The balcony off of the living room is about 5" X 8" and has a small table and two chairs where two people can have a nice meal. The balcony off of the bedroom is about 5" X 14' and there is a chaise longue and a sitting chair, along with two side tables. Both have outdoor lights, overlook a nice garden, and have plantings.)
There is a queen-sized bed in the private bedroom with closing door. There is also a very high quality full sized sofa bed in the living room. This beautiful home is on an historic tree-lined block, between Central Park West and Columbus Avenue, near major museums, shopping, and subways.
The owner prefers to accommodate two adults. Because of the circumstances, only guests who are comfortable being reasonably quiet are encouraged to stay.
This is a parlor floor apartment, which means that it is one flight of stairs on the exterior of the building to the building's entrance. Then the apartment is on that floor. The main living room, bedroom, kitchen and bath are on that level and the sleeping loft with the additional beds is up a small staircase within the apartment.
Sorry, no children permitted, no smoking.
We felt like home during a wonderful week in October. I have been to NY repeatedly and I was always reluctant to return because of the hotels which I didn't like at all. Now there is a reason to come back again: the cozy apartment, the lovely neighborhood, close to Central Park and subway made our stay just perfect. Thank you very much!

We're grateful to Chas and Paul being were flexible and accommodating with our arrival / departure times and our queries over the first day or so.
The description and pictures were accurate and the apartment was well-maintained and very neat and clean. The mezzanine floor is best suited for storage or sleeping arrangements for children or understanding teens or adults.
The upper West Side felt very safe at all times and the apartment was on the same block for the subway stops for B and C trains and a short walk to restaurants / cafes on Columbus and Amsterdam. Overall, the apartment offered a genuine feeling of how it would be to live as a New Yorker, rather than a hotel tourist. Highly recommended.
Our stay in the apartment on 87th St was really wonderful. The neighborhood was cosy and felt safe, the subway was only steps away and it was close both to the park and to the shops and restaurants on Amsterdam and Broadway. It couldn't have been better. The apartment itself was nice and roomy for being in New York, and had everything we needed. The kitchen was small but well equipped and the beds were comfortable. Chas was very helpful and answered all our questions very quickly. Overall, it was a really wonderful stay!
My Mum and I recently spent 11 nights at Chas' Upper West Side apartment. We had not used AirBnB before, but the whole process ran very smoothly. Both Chas and Paul were quick at answering emails and provided us with plenty of information re local grocery shops etc. The pick-up of the keys was also very simple.
The apartment is in a great location, half a block from Central Park and close to several subway lines. Only up one flight of stairs, which was good because there are no lifts!
The apartment was very well equipped with everything you need for a stay away from home - bedding, towels, full kitchen etc. It was a bit smaller than it appears in the photos and could do with a lick of paint, but was very clean and had plenty of storage. Also, keep in mind that the beds in the loft may provide a bit of a problem for some guests - definitely best for kids.
Overall, we had a great time at Chas' apartment and would definitely recommend it to anyone wanting to visit New York!

About the Host, Chas
We live in San Francisco and spend time in New York as well. We also have another place in Northern California in the country we spend time at. I'm a private pilot and Paul is quite an accomplished ceramicist, though he does non-profit management consulting by profession. I run a retreat center ((website hidden)) and am a computer consultant some of the time and real estate investor other times. We have two cats who stay at our house here in San Francisco. They are very affectionate and easy to care for.
