About this listing
This home situated in the Centro is truly a one-of-a-kind oasis in San Miguel. This architectural gem was designed with tranquility and privacy in mind.
You will be enchanted the moment you enter this luxurious sanctuary nestled in the lush courtyard, with its cascading gardens and 100+ year old Mesquite tree.
Entering the stunning Casita TOPAZ, you enter a different world - not that of Colonial Mexico, as you might expect, but rather the beauty of Morocco.
This spacious, Moroccan-inspired Queen bed casita with its large, open floor plan, has colorful interiors, high ceilings, with windows and skylights that bathe the apartment with lots of natural sunlight. Enjoy evening cocktails on the private terrace while watching the churches illuminate at dusk. On those rare chilly nights, light the beautiful (hand carved) fireplace for those cozy and romantic evenings at home.
The integrity and elegant design of this gem is unquestionable: It includes floor-to-ceiling beveled glass windows, warm/soft lighting, stone floors, Talavera tile, hand carved columns and several niches displaying fine art/sculptures.
Uncompromising attention to detail was given to this majestic property by the previous owner (a well known architect). Using only the finest materials, local master artisans have skillfully crafted your 'home away from home.'

The Jewels of San Miguel are quiet refuges, a place to get away from your busy life at home. Yet the excitement of the town of San Miguel is just blocks away. We are looking for guests that are considerate of others on the property. Guests that are mindful of the property's security so everyone can feel safe and secure. Our casitas are appointed with fine decor and accents and antique furnishings, we would like guests that respect the quality and appearance of the casitas. We only allow smoking on the terraces and only the guests which have been approved may stay in the casitas.
The Topaz room was beautiful and very private with an amazing view down to the city.
Amazing jewel of a home. We felt so incredibly lucky in our "palace". Absolutely loved the location, feel, welcome treats, wi-fi, netflix, hammock... so much more. Would come back to just to stay here! My absolute favorite airbnb. Thank you!
The space is truly a gem: this casita is on the back side of the larger house, so you don't hear the busy traffic of the main street, and it gives you a great view of San Miguel. It's about a 15min walk to Centro, but there are some restaurants along the way if you don't want to go all the way to the city square.
We liked staying in a quieter area of the city, and didn't mind the walk up and down the hill: it's definitely a calorie burner and requires comfy shoes. While removed from the hustle of the city square, it was still a very safe area with a lot of foot traffic.
We didn't meet Bebe, but once we checked in, we talked to her on the phone and she also left a great binder full of resources for the space and the city. The housekeeper was also friendly and welcoming (though she doesn't speak much English and we didn't speak much Spanish, we all managed with good humor).
Things to note:
- The casita is basically one large open space, like a loft or studio. As a New York couple, we didn't mind. But if you're traveling with a friend and want privacy, keep this in mind.
- Kitchen is well stocked w/ pots & pans, dishes, as well as purified water.
- AMAZING view from the terrace. Yes, there is a dome that one other review mentioned, but it didn't bother us or really obstruct the view.
- Wifi is a decent speed if you're on a working vacation.
- Feels private and secluded: there are other casitas nearby, but you don't hear your neighbors.
- Shower has slightly lower water pressure than I prefer, but not a deal breaker.
- We would definitely stay here again.
Nestled into the hillside and a quick bus ride from Centro, Casita Topaz is an amazing place. For me - perfect in every way
The explanation of Casita Topaz is accurate. Everything was seamless; I was greeted by the house manager and once settled, a lovely call welcoming me from Bebe. The house is amazing with the inner courtyard and terraces cool the day and conseal the busy road beyond, it is a true sanctuary.
The bed is important and this bed was perfect.
Nice place, great views, taxi right outside door. An in room iron and ironing board would be a plus. Overall good experience.
I loved my stay at Casita Topaz for 5 nights. The Moroccan interior decor of the apartment is one of a kind. Casita Topaz is a romantic, intimate, cozy place to stay at. Furthermore, the terrace view of San Miguel de Allende is amazing. From Casita Topaz a few steps away if the view from the Casita Topaz isn't amazing enough the mirador city view is breathtaking and perfect. Also, Casita Topaz's location is conveniently located and I walked from one place to another without taking a taxi within the city. Additionally, Casita Topaz is located in a very safe area and not once did I feel unsafe even after returning from a night out in the town! Thank you Bebe for sharing your wonderful place.
We were a bit dismayed when we entered, and realized that it was basically just one big room. The pictures leave an impression of hallways and at least a bedroom, but that turns out to be the hallways of the common area. A floor plan would be useful. This is one unit of a three unit condo. The view is also a bit misleading, because the picture appears to have been taken by someone standing on a chair. If you sit down in the patio area, that dome thing blocks almost all the view. The place was very clean and modern, and apart from a loud party next door our second night, it was quiet.
We appreciate Bill's feedback and have now labeled the photos so our guests can clearly decipher what the layout is within the casitas as well as the property as a whole. We do our best to give our guests the best vacation experience possible and having their expectations met is certainly a big part of that so we're sorry for that confusion.

About the Host, Bebe
The "Jewels of San Miguel" is a joint partnership between myself and two other very active co-owners. One owner, Beth, is retired, the second, my sister Gay, works in the Oil Industry and I work for United Airlines as a Flight Attendant. We love the Jewels and hope to spend our retirement years going back and forth from the USA and Mexico, but in the meantime, we invite you to share our lovely casitas.
