About this listing
WOW! 2-bedroom cottage: Sun, space, privacy and relaxation in a stunning rural setting. Birds and glow-worms! Explore the Nelson-Tasman region from this perfect base. Convenient to amenities, wineries, National Parks, coastal bike-trail and beaches.
Mapua Heights cottage is a comfortable and stylish two-bedroom self-contained holiday cottage with magnificent views. It offers privacy, space and the opportunity to relax in a stunning rural setting. It has a master bedroom with Queen bed and a second bedroom with King single and pull-out full height trundler bed. It is fully self-contained with open plan well-equipped kitchen, dining and lounge areas, tv and wi-fi internet, bathroom with shower over bath, washing machine, etc. The cottage is built on principles of passive thermal design and environmental sustainability.
Outside, there is a generous deck and garden area where you can sit, relax and enjoy a drink (perhaps a local wine) or a barbecue. Take time to watch the sunsets, watch the twinkling lights of Nelson emerge and be mesmerised by the stars of the Milky Way and Southern Cross in our dramatic night sky.
Extensive native planting and a large area of regenerating bush attracts native birds such as tui, fantail, silvereye and at certain times of year bellbird, shining cuckoo and a New Zealand falcon. We even have glow-worms in our gully - Ken is happy to be your guide! Deer and sheep graze our paddocks - let us introduce you. Guests are welcome to explore our native bush walk and paddocks.
Interaction with guests
Too much choice of things to do? While the cottage is very private, owners Ken and Vivien are on site to ensure your comfort and provide local knowledge.
Our cottage is just 5 minutes drive away from the welcoming village of Mapua, with its picturesque wharf, popular cafes and restaurants and unique shops and galleries. It is the ideal base from which to explore the Nelson-Tasman region. You may choose to enjoy the many beaches, sample the region's food and wine, visit the bustling Nelson Saturday market, tour the wineries and art outlets, have fun cycling, kayaking or walking in the area or tramping in one of the region's three National Parks. The possibilities are endless, hence many visitors choose to return.
There is no local public transport to the property so guests will require their own means of transport. There is covered car parking. The region is great for cycling, with options for road, trail or mountain-biking. We are close to the Great Taste Cycle Trail.
Other things to note
Please contact owners if interested in extended stays outside peak season
The cottage is a no-smoking facility. Unfortunately we cannot accommodate pets. Spare linen, towels and cleaning supplies provided for longer stays (we do not service the cottage during stays as we feel this intrudes on your privacy and space).
We (Ken and Vivien) are a professional couple with young adult family who feel privileged to live where we do; in this small piece of paradise surrounded by fresh air, sunlight, nature and those wonderful views. We met travelling many years ago and have now lived in the Nelson-Tasman region for almost 20 years. We love the many attractions and activities in the area, particularly exploring the three National Parks in the Nelson-Tasman region, as well as sampling local food and wine in the many cafes, restaurants and wineries nearby .
We live on the same property as the cottage and are therefore able to welcome you, share our local knowledge with you and ensure that you are comfortable. You will find the cottage to be peaceful, private, sunny and very comfortable; the perfect base from which to explore.
