We had a lovely time here. Our friends were staying in the apartment next door so the location was perfect! Great place to explore nearby towns and to enjoy the beautiful countryside. Very kind of Andrea to meet us and to show us the way to the castle when we arrived. All the communication was excellent.

The castle is a really lovely place to stay, in the most picturesque setting; a real treat to be able to spend a few days here as it's a tiny little walled community that feels like you're stepping back in time. While Sophie is not the host, she was very helpful in answering questions and Andrea who met us at the other end was helpful and straightforward. There are a couple of absolutely wonderful restaurants nearby (La Fontanelle just up the hill and Casaline just down the hill). Insects are a bit of a problem, including scorpions... and the shower water pressure was particularly unpredictable, but these points are to be expected really for this location. With this said, there must be a couple of notes to go with it. This apartment is very, very close to a bell tower that goes off, at length and extremely loudly from 7am every half an hour until 10:30pm. I cannot stress it enough that you will need to be OK with waking up at this hour every day, as you have no chance to sleep through. We visited in August which, while excellent when out and about in the sunshine, also came with the problem that there is absolutely no air conditioning or fan of any kind, making it extremely uncomfortable to sleep here. This really does need to be addressed I think as points 1 and 2 in conjunction ensured it was nigh on impossible to sleep soundly while at the castle, so we spent a great deal of time feeling very tired indeed. I don't want to paint it in a bad light as it really is a lovely place to stay, but I just thought it essential to make guests aware of these two very important points to consider when booking.

Response from Sophie:
Thanks for taking the time to review your stay. As for the bells, it is true, there are churches everywhere in Italy, including within the castle, and they all have bells sounding all day but not in the night. I am sorry if they disturbed you--we hadn't had anyone complain about them before. We don't have air conditioning but we certainly do have fans--we would have been happy to bring more fans if you had let either me or Andrea know you wanted them. We urge guests to contact us during their visit with any requests or issues and we will happily and quickly respond. Thanks again for your stay, Sophie

Sophie was quick to reply and was very helpful with her communication. When we arrived it was Andrea and his family who helped us to settle in. My family and I loved the unique castle house, the surrounding area and Andrea, his aunt, uncle and cousins were welcoming and shared excellent tips and information. We were only there for 3 days and could have used more time to explore Umbria ... next time I'll come for a week!

Wonderful! The apartment is stylishly and comfortably furnished with everything we needed and lots of lovely details. Its location inside Campello Alto is breathtaking, peaceful...perfect! Sophie's communication before our stay was always prompt and helpful. Andrea, who owns the apartment, communicated with us during our stay, he gave us a great welcome and was a lovely host, patient, generous, thoughtful and always available to help with questions. We hired both apartments that Sophie has listed in Campello Alto (the other one is equally lovely) and this enabled five of us to spread out and have enough space but be close together too. Great to be able to use the pool and spa too - and so much to see in this lovely area. Thank you Sophie and Andrea & family for a wonderful stay

We had a great stay at the house in Campello Alto that belongs to Andrea Loretti, from a lovely local family rather than Sophi who as I understan manages the Airbnb listing. The house location could not be better in this utterly quiet fortified hamlet surrounded by fortified walls on top of a hill. It dates to 1100 and oozes atmosphere and is was very quiet apart from the renovation work going on in the house next door but it did not inconvenience us. The house inside is much bigger than we thought it would be, very stylishly decorated and cosy too. The space outside is great to enjoy a cup of coffee or lunch. Our only reservations would be the internet speed and the staircase to the second floor that lacked any railing for security. Andrea was kind enough to welcome us any time in his design furniture showroom in Campello less than 10' from the house and the stairs were OK after a while but maybe not suitable for others. The daytrips were fatastic and all more or less than an hour away: Spoletto, Assisi, Gubbio, Spello, Montefalco etc, etc... We wholeharteddly recommend a stay at Campello Alto to discover the unique atmosphere of Umbria. Don't forgot to go to the lovely local restaurants La Fontanelle just 5' up the road. An absolute gem.

Probably the best place to stay in Umbria ! A wonderful little castle-village in the hills with lovely people inside, absolutely peaceful, with dramatic views over the beautiful countryside. The house is a little temple for design where you can also enjoy sunbathing on the two terraces. Mariella and Sandro from Loreti Arredamenti are just the nicest hosts you can dream about and you will appreciate to enjoy the pool at Sandro's. Don't forget to visit the restaurant Casaline where truffle meals and lamb meat are prodigious, nor to taste Montefalco Sagrantino wine.

I've been living in the Spoleto area for over 30 years and have been helping friends who have holiday homes in the area find great guests who will enjoy staying here for several years. I make sure the houses are ready for your arrival and are always even nicer than you'd expected. I want to ensure you have a great holiday and come to love and hopefully return to Umbria whenever you can. When things are quiet here, I like to travel around Italy, Europe and the US but most of all I enjoy coming home to this beautiful valley, our cats and dog and garden. I am a garden designer, ceramics exporter, art residency manager and lover of nature and art.
