Come stay in my cozy home on the Southside slopes of Pittsburgh! The house is a single family strictly smoke and pet free home. Completely renovated and I keep it in excellent condition so everything looks like new and is clean.

The Space

This is a large fully furnished first floor Master bedroom (no stairs) with free off street parking right next to the front door. Located 10 minutes from downtown, Oakland and the Southside and very close to the 279 and 376 highways. The street and neighborhood are quiet and off the main drag so you get the convenience of central location without the city noise.

This bedroom is 13 x 14 feet (4 x 4.25 meters) with overhead lighting and plenty of natural light. There is a large closet with a full length mirror on the door, large desk, 3 dressers and a small TV. There are plenty of extra outlets to plug in all your gadgets as well as a hair dryer for your use. The bedroom door can be locked from the inside.

Amenities include:
•King size bed with heated mattress pad. Very comfortable and about 3 years old.
•Clean sheets and towels provided. Extra toiletries if you forget something important
•1 bathroom is just outside the bedroom and is shared with other guests that may be staying in the house and is always kept clean
•Additional toilet in the basement available for use if the bathroom is occupied
•Keyless entry with a personal door code so you don’t have to worry about keeping up with a key or getting locked out
•Full access to eat in kitchen with refrigerator, dishwasher, stove, microwave, toaster oven, coffee maker and garbage disposal
•Secured high speed Verizon FIOS wireless internet
•Living room with TV, basic channels and DVD player
•Front and back porch and backyard
•Central Air Conditioning/Heat
•Washer/Dryer in the basement with laundry table and detergent, help yourself
•Bus accessible: 10 minute walk to buses that go downtown (51) and Southside/Oakland/Northside (54C/D)
•Free off street parking at the house

•Need anything else? Contact me and we’ll figure it out!

Guest Access

Guests have complete access and use of the first floor of the house including the kitchen for cooking/eating, living room, bathroom, and basement for laundry and storage. You also have access to the front and back deck and back yard.

Keyless entry means you never get locked out and have flexibility with when you check in and out.

Interaction with Guests

If this is your first time staying with Airbnb, please include some details about yourself and what brings you to Pittsburgh in your message to me. I also required a completed profile with a recognizable photo, verifications of phone, email and ID as well as some description about yourself in your profile. Please see my profile as an example. This helps us both get to know a bit about each other and make sure we are a good match since you will be staying in my home.

I answer all messages promptly. Once you make a reservation, I will follow up a few days prior to your arrival with a detailed email containing lots and lots of additional information about the house and its amenities, parking the neighborhood and bus transportation.

On the day of your arrival I will be available and check in with you to make sure you got in ok. After that I am hands off. You are here for business or pleasure and to enjoy yourself. I trust that if you need something you will get in touch with me and I will be more than happy to help you with anything at all you may need to know or find about Pittsburgh. I’ve lived here 12 years :)

The Neighborhood

Welcome to the Southside Slopes and Mt. Oliver Boro. This is a quiet residential area of mostly working families and not an area where students live. It is a safe area with its own Police force that patrols regularly. Carson street on the Southside is a 10 minute car or bus ride away and provides dozens of different restaurants, bars, banking, groceries, and shopping in the Southside Works area.

Getting around

If you drive there is off street parking in the driveway right next to the front door of the house. The neighbourhood is walkable but on a hill so the walk is not flat but up and down some hills.

Driving Access:
•10 mins to highways 376 and 279 which will take you anywhere throughout the city
•5-10 mins to Southside and Carson Street
•10-15 to Downtown
• 15-20 mins to Oakland, Shadyside and Squirrel hill
• 45 mins from the airport

Bus Access:
• 51 bus goes to the Southside/Carson street and Downtown
• 54C/D buses go to Southside/Carson street, Oakland, Shadyside, Friendship, Bloomfield, Polish Hill, Lawrenceville, Strip District and Northside
• 44 bus also goes Downtown

Other Things to Note

Please note that I rent two bedrooms in my home and that common areas (kitchen, living room, bathroom) would be shared with other guests if both rooms have guests staying. I always keep guests informed of who else is staying in the house. I expect all my guests to treat my home as your own, be tiddy and be respectful towards other guests staying in my home as I expect of them to act towards you :)

  • Maggie is a great host, responsive, caring, helpful. Thanks a lot!
The house is a nice place to stay, well equipped and taken care of. An oasis.
Public transport to the vibrant SouthSide and Downtown is great (if you don't mind a little walk and once you have figured out out it works), by car it is really close.
    I loved it!

  • Maggie is absolutely the most gracious, conscientious, and generous of hostesses. The room is light and spacious, the kitchen fully equipped, and Maggie is quick to ensure you have everything you might need or even just fancy to make your stay comfortable.
I could not imagine a better experience. I can't wait to come back!

  • Great place, clean room, full equipped kitchen and good public transportation. As I was a last minute guest I am happy that Maggie responded so fast. I will be back when I'm in town. Thank you!

  • The room was fine. It was clean and fairly large. The room is part of a 2 bedrooms one bath house. I was alone in the house for two of the three days I was there. On the third night someone else had rented the second bedroom, but I never saw them. The house has a kitchen at the disposal of guests and a living area with a tv (which I could not get to work, but there was a small tv in my room that did work somewhat). It also has a basement with washing machine and drier which I did use. The house is located in the Mount Oliver section of Pittsburgh and getting to and from the place from other areas of the city is a bit of a challenge because of the hills and there are only a few ways to get there. But that is pretty much the story for the whole of Pittsburgh. I had many challenges getting around even with the help of Imaps and (website hidden) maps on my Ipad. Overall the place is ok, but if both rooms are rented one has to be prepared to live with someone else in close quarters and share a bathroom. But hey! The price is right!

    Response from Maggie:

Thanks for the feedback Frank :) Wish you had gotten in touch about the TV issue as I'd have been happy to help. I'll also make sure to highlight in my listings that common areas are shared if both rooms have guests as I understand this can be a consideration for some especially those new to airbnb. Cheers! Maggie

  • As my first time using airbnb, I would have to say that Maggie set the bar extremely high for any other host I may use through airbnb. Her home was extremely clean and very well put together for travelers from anywhere. Maggie left no detail unturned; any and all little things that one may have forgot about, she had covered. (bus routes, directions, things 'to do", extra plugs, a system on how to keep food items organized (if sharing the house with others) etc, etc. her communication skills are 100%, her home was very comfortable and the other guests were absolute dolls. I believe good attracts good. I stayed for 2 weeks and didn't want to leave and would do this again without hesitation.

About
Hello! I'm a young professional in the city of Pittsburgh. I love to travel and just got back not long ago from a summer trip to Vancouver, Seattle and Portland. I also spent a month in Europe (Berlin, Poland (southwesten parts), Prague, Milan and Venice) in October 2011. I've found that staying in hostels instead of hotels and meeting fellow travelers is what really makes the experience when I've been abroad so I'm excited that a site like this exists and have really enjoyed opening my home to travelers as well as staying with a couple airbnbers when I've traveled. I speak Polish fluently as well as the standard English of course. I'm originally from Poland and moved to the US when I was young, but still have family there. I came to Pittsburgh to go to college at Pitt and have lived here ever since, about 12 years now so I know the city pretty well. I bought this house in the summer of 2008. I fell in love with salsa dancing about 7 years ago so if there's anything you want to know about the Pittsburgh Latin scene, I can probably tell you! I have worked in Oakland at the University and downtown so I know the bus system quite well also. I commuted by bus to both Oakland and Downtown from my home. Hosting: I host because I truly enjoy meeting people and having travelers in my home. My place is always clean, not annaly spotless, but clean. I own a vacuum cleaner and a toilet brush and know how to use them :) I'm willing to be as helpful as you need or to stay out of your way if that's what you prefer. I am traveling more for work and personal reasons these days so chances are we will not meet in person but I will have everything ready for you and I am always reachable by phone, text or email. I assume you will treat my home as if it were your own, clean up after yourself and leave your room as you found it when you check out. I'm more interested in helping interesting and trustworthy travelers than I am in just making a quick buck. Please ask me any questions and if you are unsure if something is available or ok with me, let's just talk it out! I also sometimes have out of town friends and/or other guests staying in my home so you would be sharing the common areas in the house with other friendly folks and expected to be tiddy and respectful towards them as well as I expect of them to act towards you :)
