About this listing
Alma del Sol features 4 ample rooms, 3 of which have balconies to the exterior. Breakfast is served on a sunny rooftop terrace. Witness some impromptu music courtesy of local musicians and enjoy a short walk to many of Guanajuato's historical gems.
Alma del Sol is an old stone and adobe house in Guanajuato's beautiful, historic center. Available are four ample rooms, each with its own bathroom, including two suites. All are decorated with artist and traveler Carol Summers' own collection of folk textiles from all over the world, with an emphasis on India.
The view from the rooftop garden, bar, and dining room is absolutely grand. We are right next to a 250 year - old Jesuit Church, "Templo de la Compañía," offering an exquisite display of the magnificent architecture of the colonial period.
Alma’s location could not be better, a short walk from the University and most museums—including The Diego Rivera Museum, El Museo del Pueblo, and El Museo Alhóndiga de Granaditas. Also nearby are the spectacular Teatro Juarez and two lively meeting places, the Jardín de la Unión and the Plaza de la Paz. A number of good restaurants , serving both Mexican and international cuisine , are just steps away.
Interaction with Guests
I will be accompanying guests during every breakfast in order to provide assistance in planning your day so as to ensure an enjoyable visit to Guanajuato. Please feel free to ask about coordinating a spontaneous printmaking workshop; I would be glad to share some tricks of the trade!
Other Things to Note
If you would like to make a reservation for more than one room, please complete a separate reservation for each of the rooms.
The experience with Hugo at Alma del Sol was beautiful. The rooms and home were as beautiful as the photos showed. They greeted us when we arrived after 10pm tired from traveling all day. They made us feel at home and comfortable and safe with my two young children.
We woke in the morning to a fantastic breakfast of fresh fruit, homemade omelettes and flautas (taquitos) and coffee.
Hugo attended to our every need and gave us a map of places that we could visit for the day.
Overall, I give it a 10 out of 10 for comfort and experience!
Gracias Hugo and Anna
Our best B and B experiences ever. We felt welcome long before we arrived with Hugo's prompt and attentive messages. And during the 5 days that we spent with them Hugo and Angeles and fed us wonderful breakfasts, made us feel completely at home.
In addition, we were in Guanajuato to explore neighborhoods and schools to relocate our family and we soon found out that Hugo is amazingly well connected and an absolute encyclopedia of information about the town, its culture and its people.
We couldn't have been luckier to have found Casa Alma del Sol!
It was a great stay in Hugo's house. Very thing is neat and clean with enough quality. The breakfast with either Hugo or other guests is also a good to chance to know the tips on traveling in the city as well
as Mexico. The house location is awesome closed to any place you needed about eating and visiting. I hated to stay too short in this wonderful place. Hope I can come again.
Sharing with Hugo was a great experience. He is a honest customer oriented person.
On the other hand, his house is clean, comfortable and plenty of small details
Really enjoyed my stay here. Hugo so helpful and gave me some great tips. My room was very large and comfortable. Huge and comfortable bed. Love it....I will return!
Like so many others, you will fall in love with Guanajuato -- and it will be largely because of Hugo! We arrived and he gave us his map marked with his most recommended spots - some fabulous sites and wonderful food. And he'll guide you with details all the way down to which table to sit at for the best experience. He is so warm and welcoming and really made our visit to Guanajuato very special. Breakfasts on the rooftop with him and other guests are really sweet and a wonderful way to start your day - lovely homemade food made with love. (And he was really gracious in accommodating celiac dietary restrictions, which is really appreciated!) The location of Alma del Sol is great, too, perfect spot in town. We hung out on the rooftop and did some work each day, enjoying the incredible view, fresh air, and sounds of the city. The only little tiny bummer is that if you're a light sleeper, you may want to bring ear plugs or some white noise to sleep at night, as the town is alive all around you. (Or just go to the great spots Hugo suggests and have a great meal with enough local mezcal, tequila or wine to put you into a deeper slumber ;)) The home is beautiful and Hugo attracts fabulous people.
Hugo was the best host we have ever encountered! He was friendly, knowledgable about the town and provided the best service! His BnB was so charming with the most amazing decor one could want. The rooms were very nice, clean with all the modern conveniences. The breakfasts were some of the best meals we have while in Guanajuato. We would highly recommend anyone looking to tour GTO, to stay with Hugo at his BnB as the location alone is enough to stay there in addition to all I have mentioned above. Thanks Hugo!
About the Host, Hugo
I am an artist that lived in Portland Oregon for many years. I live and work near Alma del Sol Bed and Breakfast in my 250 year old property with a large studio where I teach printmaking workshops. I love meeting people and having guests at Alma del Sol keeps me in contact with people that share travel and life stories.
