Alma del Sol is an old stone and adobe house in Guanajuato's beautiful, historic center. The four ample rooms, each with it's own bathroom, including two suites, are decorated with artist and traveler Carol Summers' own collection of folk textiles from all over the world, with an emphasis on India.
The view from the rooftop garden, bar, and dining room is absolutely grand. We are right next to a 250 year - old Jesuit Church, "Templo de la Compañía," offering an exquisite display of the magnificent architecture of the colonial period.
Alma’s location could not be better, a short walk from the University and most museums—including The Diego Rivera Museum, El Museo del Pueblo, and El Museo Alhóndiga de Granaditas. Also nearby are the spectacular Teatro Juarez and two lively meeting places, the Jardín de la Unión and the Plaza de la Paz. A number of good restaurants , serving both Mexican and international cuisine , are just steps away.
We only stayed one night, but it was delightful in every way. Alma del Sol is a wonderfully preserved old structure right in the heart of Guanajuato, with high ceilings supported by ancient beams and walls decorated with Mexican, Central American, and Oriental carpets and tapestries. The breakfast's fresh juice, cut fruits, warm breads, and eggs "al gusto" was filling and delicious. Our hosts, Hugo and Angeles, were friendly, knowledgeable and helpful in a way that made us feel like personal friends sharing their home. We can't imagine a better place, or better hosts, and wish only that we had been able to stay longer.
Hugo is a gracious and charming host. (not to mention an artist). I couldn't have planned a better experience than staying at his charming place in Guanajuato. The views from the rooftop of this historical building are spectacular and a delicious inventive and fresh breakfast is served there every morning. You can enjoy the sunset from the roof as well and bring your own beverages or use the wonderful honor bar provided. My bedroom had very high ceilings and plenty of light. The baths are modern and the textiles and popular art that decorate the home take you to another time. You are in the heart of the city.
We stayed at Alma del Sol B & B for a week during our recent visit to Guanajuato. What a lovely place! Our room was beautiful; shutters opened to a balcony. The bathroom features local tiles - very attractive. The hotel has a wonderful display of vintage textiles. There is a very pleasant rooftop terrace where you can sit out, read, work on your computer, have a drink. Wifi is free. Breakfast is terrific; very creative use of local ingredients. The location is great - a few doors down from the university. Hugo is a wonderful host - he has breakfast with you most mornings and has a wealth of knowledge to offer on local restaurants, historical sites, transportation, and performances. He called our airline and confirmed our flight and booked a taxi for us. We would love to stay there again.
