Our beautifully appointed apartment is above our vintage shop in the centre of Kirkby Stephen in the lovely Eden Valley. We have a large open space with fitted kitchen and dining area. The sitting area includes, if needed a quality sofa-bed. The bathroom has a luxury double walk-in shower, shaver point, basin and toilet. The attractive bedroom includes twin-beds, wardrobe, dresser etc. This is a charming space in a central location near to pubs and restaurants and is an ideal location for walking, visiting, historical sites etc. We are the halfway point on the coast to coast walk and Kirkby Stephen offers an ideal resting place. We offer a delicious continental style breakfast if required. Pet friendly by arrangement. This is a super place for railway enthusiasts, we are on the Settle to Carlisle line and Kirkby Stephen East station is open to the public and includes a small museum.
Other Things to Note
We do have a very nice travel cot at no extra charge.
We are a non-smoking house and would just ask guests to respect our lovely apartment and our peace and quiet as we live above. We also ask that guest take the door key with them at all times as the entrance door to the building is dead locked at 10.30pm also when the property is empty during the day.
We were made very welcome at Paul and Penny's lovely apartment, and appreciated the fresh bread and eggs kindly left for us. Paul was very attentive to any enquiries or needs, and the flat makes the perfect base for exploring the quite beautiful and dramatic local scenery. It is truly a 'getaway' from the busyness of urban life!
Penny and Paul made us very welcome and the flat was exactly as described. They are a charming and friendly couple who have worked hard and thoughtfully at how best to create a lovely comfortable space for guests to use. They left a loaf of bread, home-made plum jam, some butter and six eggs for us on arrival which told us much about them and their attentiveness to our needs.
The flat is large and light looking down over the main street of Kirkby Stephen and we congratulated ourselves on finding somewhere so central and easy for our 8 night stay. The cooking facilities/fridge/shower etc are new and everything worked, especially the wifi and tv.
We were just two persons but the flat could easily take a family of four.
We had a really enjoyable stay at Rocke that Frock and would recommend it to anyone who is thinking of spending time in the Cumbrian countryside from a very practical and homely base.
For us Australians, this was the epitome of the English experience. Such a beautiful apartment, spotlessly clean and so very, very pretty. We had all the mod cons and Paul and Penny could not have been more accommodating, warm, informative and just lovely! The location in the Lake District is fabulous, picturesque, with breathtaking views around every corner. We will never forget this stay and we feel that we have made some wonderful new friends!
Penny and Paul were very friendly and accommodating during our two night stay, even with our very early starts and bikes in need of storage!
We were 4 people, so also used the sofa bed which was very comfortable! There was plenty of space for us all!
It's worth noting that due to how central out is, there is some street noise from revelers on weekends.
The bathroom and small kitchen area were spotless and modern. We loved the small touches of decoration all over the flat, they obviously have a keen designer eye!
Kirkby has lots of restaurants and small shops and nearby castles are worth a look! I hope we'll come again.
A lovely apartment in a lovely town! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Rocke that Frock apartment. It is beautifully decorated and the hosts are superb. We loved the fresh bread on arrival and being able to explore the amazing vintage shop downstairs. Kirkby Stephen is in a good location to explore the surrounding areas. I would recommend it to everyone!
Absolutely wonderful stay! Paul and Penny are very welcoming. We had home baked bread and the most delicious Christmas cake I've ever tasted on arrival. The flat has a great, open front room, everything is new and clean and interesting. We really enjoyed the area as well, the walk up to the Nine Sentinels was as bracing as can be up a brilliant, water logged path. The pub opposite, the Black Bull, is very friendly and the food was some of the best pub grub I've had for ages. Basically a brilliant couple of days away from it all!
!00% is the least we can say. This is a lovely apartment with its very large lounge/diner/kitchen, large twin bedroom and big bathroom with an excellent shower. We loved our 2 nights here and if possible would like to come again, but this time we will come by car!. This trip was by train and Penny & Paul could not have been more accommodating in picking us up from the railway station. They then took us there again for our trip in the rain to Settle and again on our departure. Nothing seemed to be too much trouble for them. They had very kindly left a freshly baked loaf, butter, some eggs, jam, tea & coffee for us and that was much appreciated.
Kirkby Stephen is a lovely town with loads of places to eat & drink and the only downside was the weather, which neither Paul nor Penny can control!
