About this listing

Little traditional wooden house (non smoking) with terrace and modern bath-room. The design and interior is traditional Thai-style and expresses the authentic Thainess. The beaches, the shops and the restaurants are in walking distances.

The space

This little Thai teak-house (about 35 sqm) is perfect for your long-stay retreat on Koh Mak. The house has a terrace, DVD-player, water-kettle, hot water shower and A/C, fits for two persons.
The Thai-teak house is nestled in lush tropical gardens. Equipped with a modern bathroom and designed and made of original and antique teak-wood. Two of the best white sand beaches of Koh Mak are just 250 to 300 meters away. Koh Mak is a very remote and peaceful island. No ATM and no 7/11 here. Far away from mass-tourism and bars. It is the right place if you want just relax and have peace. The house will be cleaned by our staff every 3-4 days.
We are able to provide bedding and bath-towels, but we ask that guests bring their own beach-towels.
You also have access to our library with a big selection of dvd's, books and please feel free to use our office space in the "library"
It is pretty easy to get to Koh Mak via private minibus or limo-service. You can also travel by public bus or you can also fly with Bangkok Air to Trat.I can help you with the transportation.
FAQ:
- Easy to get from Bangkok to Koh MaK Island: You can fly with Bangkok Airways in just 45 Minutes, or we organize for you a pick-up serice with a private limo (about 3800 Baht) and also we can organize the transfer by boat for you...
-Bank/Money:
There are no banks and no ATM's on Koh Mak. Checks are not accepted. It is almost impossible to exchange currencies. Please bring Thai Baht with you.
-Several restaurants in walking distance (100 to 350 meters)
-Two sand beaches are just 250 meters away
Koh Mak is a relatively small island covering an area of 16sqkm.
-Activities:
Activities include scuba diving and snorkeling – there are two dive shops on the island. You can enjoy a traditional Thai massage on the beach or at the Good Time Resort, visit the Koh Mak Museum and discover the history of the island, or learn Thai cooking with "Smile Cooking School". Boats are easily hired to take you to some of the many other unspoiled islands nearby. In the high season, there is a regular speedboat service to the neighbouring island of Koh Chang, the second biggest in Thailand.
It has far more tropical desert island feel to it than other islands nearby ( Koh Chang, Koh Kood) as no matter where you are you are never more than a few minutes from a palm fringed beach.
No wonder that the “Sunday Times” newspaper named Koh Mak as one of the its “World’s Top Secret Beaches in late 2006.
Away from the two main beaches on the northwest and northeast coasts, the scenery mainly compromises rubber and coconut plantations.
Most visitiors opt to see the island by foot, bicycle or on a rental motorbike – there are very few cars on the island as there are very few roads. The island has 24 hour electricity.
No matter where you stay -you are usally within walking or cycling distance of wherever you want to go.
The message is clear: You are here to relax and not be disturbed by the masses. Visit our romantic serene hillside restaurant and our small romantic pool. The Good Time Resort includes a little library with a communal office available along with free WIFI.

Guest access

Guests have access to the romantic pool, the library, office-room and generous tropical garden.

Other things to note

Yodying and his family are such wonderful hosts. Good Times is ideally located on the island, and they are great at organizing anything you might want to do. The room was a bit dingy and rudimentary, but that's the style of the Thai house. The whole resort around us more than made up for it though. We spent 8 days there and were very happy. Also note that there is no wifi in this room, as the signal is too weak. But we enjoyed going to the main building where they have a nice library where we could use the internet. The location is fantastic, right in the middle of the island near the best beaches and restaurants. Nice little pool to use as well, great breakfast.

We had a fantastic experience in our romantic little thai wooden house. Our host was very nice and helpful. It was clean and we also enjoyed the restaurant. Above all, the island is beautiful and not spoiled with too many tourists. Thank you for these great holidays!

We stayed in the Basil house for 8 days, and even though the house is located in a nice garden and close to the pool, we were sad that we didn't pay slightly extra to have a nice seaview bungalow or hotel room incl breakfast, since there's lots of nice seaview choices on the island. The standard of the room was lower than expected, we were less keen on the "flower power prints" and it could have been more clean. One of the ceiling lights was poorly mounted with tape and there was small holes in the ceiling above the bed, which was very hard. Also, often the sheets were stained (even though they seemed clean). The room was cleaned every day which was more often than informed. Note that the breakfast is not included in the price, and it's a bit pricy 190 THB/person. The resorts personnel were kind even though their English skills could have been better. They were nice to include transfer to/from the pier for free at arrival/departure. The library (closes at 8 pm) has a big selection of books and DVDs. Unfortunately we were not lucky enough to find any DVDs that were not too worn to work, or not dubbed with Thai.

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Good Time Resort for 6 days at the beginning of October. The house is wonderful; quiet, relaxing, and well appointed, and Yodying and his wife are wonderful hosts who've put a lot of hard work into the resort to make is a great guest experience. Overall, our trip was very nice! My only caution to other travelers is to be sure to check on the weather in the season you plan to travel to Koh Mak as the island is virtually shut down in the off season and it can be a bit hard to find activities.

Very nice resort, very nice little house surrounded by exotic trees and flowers. Koh mak is extremely beautiful and charming, probably one of Thailands last remote islands. We stayed for 2 whole weeks and loved it!!

We really enjoyed the stay in the Thai Teak House - its very authentic, and was perfect. The island itself is quite remote, so be prepared for this. Lots of great food around, all of which we found very safe (we didnt get sick as many do in Thailand). Yodying himself was great, very calm and ready to help. His manager Michael was also fantastic, a great representative of the Good Time Resort. The house is located right near the pool, which is fantastic, and if you walk down the hill and along the beach you will find a great spot with little coral and rocks in the ocean. Definitely the place to stay if you want to get away from it all and relax.

Hello, my name is Yodying,

The island of Koh Mak is still very peaceful and has not been overwhelmed by tourists like other Thai islands. We wish to maintain this peace for our guests and give them a quiet and relaxing experience while still providing as many amenities as possible.

The guests that best enjoy Koh Mak and our properties are those that are looking for true tranquility. The beaches are beautiful and isolated, there are typically very few people on the island, and the beaches are always empty. There is plenty of time and peace to enjoy good food, do work if you wish at our open office space, and relax on the beach.

We look forward to welcoming you to Thailand and wish you a great time on Koh Mak. We are happy to assist you with your transportation to Koh Mak and to answer any other questions.

PS: We receive often questions like: "how will the weather be in August"... sorry- we really don't know. But what we know is that the past years we had many hours of sunshine - even in rainy season. And normally rainy season is not as bad as some imagine. From my experience, rainy season in Thailand is has more sun-shine days then summer in Berlin.

Kind regards,

Yodying
