Kapa'a where Molly's unit is located is great, especially for active people. The bike path connects to the Coconut Coast path. Great for running or doing a bodyweight workout in the shade of the trees yet alongside the beach. The Eastside is also an easy 20min drive to Hanalei and road to Napali Coast (North), 30min to Poipu/Koloa in South (diving/snorkeling) and 1 hr to West for Waimea Canyon and boat tours to Napali Coast.
This is part of Plantation Hale, a hotel-type resort, set just across from a field in front of a beautiful beach with great views. Morning sunrise walks are a must. Molly's pictures are pretty accurate on the layout.
There were 4 of us. My parents got the bedroom, and said it was very comfortable. My fiancé and I took the sofa bed, and we slept well with no problems. The bathroom was decent. Overall, it's like a hotel essentially, except you bring your own toiletries, which is fine.
This is a solid unit and if you check out Plantation Hale, you'll be saving at least $30-$60/day, probably more around Christmas. When I booked in July, I was actually hoping more for a condo for that live-like-a-local feel, but this worked out fine, particularly because of the location. There are the basics in the kitchen so. if you're staying more than a few days and want to make some meals at home, you're good. Molly has her cleaning lady leave out chocolates (No champagne, but we bought our own at the Safeway nearby). Tons of shops for staples and Hawaiian stuff and sports nearby. The best is being near the Coconut Coast and Wailua Falls for kayaking and hiking, then driving where you need. Parking is uber-easy.
If you need anything, Molly will respond quickly. Text seems best. The management at Plantation Hale are really considerate and very nice. They make checkin easy with electronic keycards and will store your bags. Just note that they don't manage the unit, so text Molly if you have any questions. There was an electric burning smell on our first full day, which seemed to come from the A/C but ultimately was found to have been coming from the fan, which was replaced immediately to eliminate the problem. Even though it was two days before Christmas, Molly was thoughtfully relentless in getting people over to isolate the problem and fully correct the problem. We appreciated the effort and time Molly and her team of people, including the resort's general manager put forth to make everything well.
Overall, I'd stay here again. We're now in Princeville in another Airbnb spot and we still found ourselves going to/thru Kapa'a to get to other parts of the island. 'Hope this helps.
Thanks Molly for your thoroughness and providing a good holiday spot for my parents' 51st Anniversary. My fiancé and I wanted to spend this Christmas with them before we're married and your place was part of a special time for us.
We were very disappointed with our experience here. After coming from a wonderful stay at an airbnb on Hawaii, we arrived in Kapaa to find that Molly's "customized resort condo" was in reality a Best Western suite that has been sold as a condo. The shower backed up as soon as we turned on the water, the shower had mold, the shower curtain was very dirty, and there were no pillows on the bed (we managed to find some old yellowing pillows in the closet). There wasn't any champagne, and we were not provided with "all the comforts of home." There was wrapped hotel bar soap and a hodge-podge of cheap shampoo and sunscreen. In short, the condo (and its views) were not as advertised.
It would have been one thing if the condo was accurately portrayed in Molly's photos and description, but we felt misled. The professional photos are indeed of unit H2, but when combined with the description give the impression that you are staying at a resort. They mask the details that, when staying there, make you feel like you're in a cheap hotel (like blackout curtains, old uncomfortable beds, a sagging couch and no smoking signs). What made the experience really poor though, was Molly's response to our concerns. When we sent her an email notifying her of our concerns, she sent a one line response and sent over her cleaner. She never followed up with us or even apologized for our experience.
I'm a little shocked at how well reviewed this place is. It may be the right place for some vacationers, but it should be clear from the posting what you're getting.
I am sorry that you did not have a positive experience at my condo. We do our best to ensure that our guests are satisfied and that we meet their expectations. This is not Best Western Hotel but individually owned condo.
We care very much about our guests and their comfort. I am certain, given the opportunity, we could have provided you with a room that met and/or exceeded your expectations.
I must say I was disappointed we let you down on our services. I can assure you that is not the norm and I will share your feedback with my cleaning team. I sincerely apologize as we do our best to ensure that our guests are satisfied and we strive to meet and exceed their expectations. We care very much about our guests and their comfort.
Thank you for your business and your comments.
Molly s apartment was very well equiped and conveniently located.. the only problem we encountered was the request of the management of the property to supply our credit card at check in and since we had booked on airbnb and were not prepared by Molly for this request it was a bit annoying... also the fact that Molly was not present but rather leaves the transaction to be performed by the time share property clerks leaves a very impersonal feeling.. in all it was satisfacory Wendy Weiss
Molly was easy to get in contact with and responded very fast. The room was a little dated but cannot complain for the price we got it for. Adequate space for 6 people with enough linens and towels for everyone. Highly recommend this place if you want to visit Kauai on a budget.
Molly's place is really clean and very well equipped. It is a newly renovated unit.
The kitchen is well equipped with everything we needed for our 10 day stay. Molly had provided us beach chairs, towels, and a snorkel for kids too!
The unit is walking distance from the beach and shops.
Thanks, Molly, for a fantastic rental unit that helped make our Kauai vacation great! It can always feel like a gamble when choosing a vacation rental but fear not, you won’t be disappointed by this one!
-Molly responded quickly to my initial inquiry and each additional communication. I even needed to add on an additional day to our existing reservation after realizing that our trip began one day earlier than I thought (oops), and Molly was very accommodating.
-just a short walk from a beautiful, relatively secluded beach (swimming is not advised but we didn’t much mind) and lovely path for running/ walking.
-a fully stocked kitchen, in terms of cooking supplies. We did a bit of cooking and found everything we needed, even Tupperware, a blender and some olive oil. It was great to be able to fix sandwiches or simple meals at home without having to go out for every meal.
-QUIET. Wow, it was striking how quiet this unit was. Incredible for having units on both sides and above.
-unit came equipped with beach towels and chairs. Saved me from having to use my tiny microfiber travel towel for lounging on the beach.
-comfortable beds in the bedroom and extra linens, pillows, towels, etc.
-centrally located in Kapa’a. Easy access to both the North and South shores of Kauai.
-modern, updated interior.
The only con:
-the mattress on the pull out couch left something to be desired (springs made it somewhat uncomfortable). Luckily my dad, who slept on the couch, didn’t seem to mind it too much.
In a nutshell: we would definitely return to this vacation rental and recommend to anyone going to Kauai!
This is a great find! The condo is lovely- great kitchen & appliances, comfy beds and a handy fold-out couch in the family room. The resort is walking distance to the beach (with a great running track along it) and also to the Coconut Markets for dinners & late night ice cream, with good Thursday morning farmers markets to check out. It has bbqs & pools to use and the supermarket is walkable down the main road if you don't have a car, like us. The bus stop is at the markets to get around the island. Highly recommended!
Molly was a great host during our trip to Kauai. The condo was centrally located in the resort and the beach is 5 minutes walking distance. It was very spacious with a complete kitchen. Is was well maintained, clean, good furnishings and we had absolutely no complain living here.
Kapa'a is very well located in terms of all the good restaurants and shops (5 min drive at the max). Since Kauai has only one highway that loops around the entire island, it is important the you stay on the north or the east side close to most of the attractions. Living in Kapaa was extremely convenient to get to almost all then places including the airport which is 15 minutes away. Kapaa also has a lot of good local restaurants, food trucks and coffee shops.
