Come to Copper Lodge to immerse yourself in nature and make special memories with the people you love. We’ve made this home a retreat that provides everything you might need right now–a place to get away in nature to relax, a change of scenery for work-from-home, and an optimal environment for distance learning.

Yosemite is in our backyard for year-round activities, but you'll wish you had more time to just cook, drink wine, sleep, read, play, learn, work, and disconnect, right on the property.

The space
Copper Lodge is a two-bedroom, two-bath house that sits on 21 private acres at approximately 2400’ elevation, at the end of a well-maintained dirt road, located seven miles south of the town of Mariposa. It has the west fork of the Chowchilla river running through the property. The house was built in the 1990s and has been recently renovated.

We’re located in Mariposa, CA, about three hours east of the San Francisco bay area, and about four and a half hours north of Los Angeles, CA.

Copper Lodge is conveniently located between two entrances into Yosemite National Park – the middle arch rock entrance and the south gate, which puts Yosemite valley and the Mariposa grove of giant sequoias each about an hour’s drive away. The valley is accessible year-round for 4 season fun, via the beautiful, wild and scenic Merced river canyon drive. Kings Canyon/Sequoia National Parks are also a couple of hours away.

There’s hiking, swimming and river sports in summer, snow sports in winter, and year round mountains, fresh air and dark, starry nights.

We are eight minutes to the shops, restaurants, museums, live music and other outdoor activities in historic Mariposa, and also close to the shops and restaurants in the larger town of Oakhurst.

Our property is secluded and provides peaceful solitude. Spend the day hanging out at the river. Cool off in our outdoor bathtubs or outdoor shower. Maybe spend the afternoon reading/napping in a hammock built for 2, or sink into a comfy Adirondack chair and share a bottle of wine at sunset on the front porch. A full-sized ping-pong table and other outside games are only steps away from the kitchen and patio, and illuminated by market lights, so the entertainment can easily be continued from one spot to the next.

If you have to work, or need to get the kids through their distance learning curriculum for the day, there's a dedicated office workspace, complete with conference table, wi-fi extender, office chairs and office supplies–all in a separate building, close to the main house. It's a light-filled space with windows on three sides and is a great place to concentrate and have privacy and quiet. Take video calls or get some focused reading or work done, yet still be close enough to the main house to be able to stroll over and get a snack or not feel disconnected from your group.

At the end of your "work" day, snuggle on comfortable couches in either the indoor or outdoor living rooms. From the large deck or wraparound porch, and numerous spots around the property, take in the gorgeous sunset views, the twinkling stars at night–Mariposa typically has little to no light pollution– or enjoy your morning coffee while gazing at the landscapes and visiting wildlife.

The house is well appointed with everything you need for a comfortable and luxurious stay. With an open floor plan, the living room flows to the large, cook’s kitchen and dining area, bringing everyone together while cooking and socializing. The living area has plenty of room and comfortable seating to enjoy watching DVDs or shows on your Netflix and Amazon account on the flat screen television. Sit in a corner on one of the cushioned benches to read a book from the library, overlook the view from the windows and sliding glass doors, play one of the many card or board games, or snuggle into the couches and enjoy the warmth of the stone fireplace. The house also has high speed wi-fi, so you can check email if you need to.

The kitchen is fully equipped with stainless steel appliances, and everything you might need to create wonderful meals, plus make your coffee in the morning. (Foodies, please message us and we’d be happy to provide a list of appliances, kitchen tools and basic cooking ingredients at the house.) Prepare a delicious dinner in the fully equipped cook’s kitchen or grill on the propane BBQ and enjoy a relaxed meal outside on a warm summer evening.

The large farmhouse table seats 8 and is next to a bar area. There is a good assortment of glasses, a cocktail shaker, cocktail making supplies, wine opener and a blender.

The house has air conditioning and central heating and sleeps 4 adults comfortably, with a king bed in the master bedroom, a queen bed in the second room, and a comfortable queen sleeper sofa in the living room. Each bedroom has blackout blinds. The master bedroom has its own en-suite bathroom with single sink, tub and shower, and toilet. The second bedroom has a bathroom with shower, single sink and toilet. Each bathroom has towels and a hairdryer. There is a full laundry room on site, complete with laundry supplies.

Please be respectful of our home and our belongings. A lot of time and effort (and love!) has gone into making this space as comfortable as possible. The guests before you treated this place as their own and we hope to continue to share it with people like you, for a long time.

Enjoy your stay!

Where you’ll be

Mariposa, California, United States

CopperLodge is located at the end of a well-maintained dirt road (no 4x4 wheel drive is typically needed, even in winter.) You'll have lots of privacy, and peace and quiet to enjoy the sights and sounds of nature. A hike out of our front door will take you to beautiful scenery–either to the river, or just around the neighborhood where you’ll see the mountain vistas leading to Yosemite.

While the property itself offers 21 acres of 100% end-of-the-road privacy, its only a 10 minute drive to the groceries, shopping and bars and restaurants of charming downtown Mariposa. Mariposa has retained the small town charm of a bygone era, so you won’t see strip malls or chain stores, and it remains one of a handful of California mountain towns without a stop light. 30 minutes away you can find larger stores and a bit more hustle and bustle in the larger neighboring mountain town of Oakhurst.

Copper Cabin is conveniently located about an hour from Yosemite National Park, via two entrances. You can get to valley quickly via the Arch Rock entrance, or head to the giant sequoias, Glacier point and Badger pass skiing area, via the south entrance.

But Mariposa County isn't just the home of Yosemite. It's also home to amazing scenery, a wealth of outdoor attractions, and historic, gold rush towns. Copper Cabin is located off historic Highway 49, where charming mining towns dot the Gold Rush Trail route, surrounded by the panoramic vistas and bubbling streams of the western Sierra Nevada foothills. It’s 35 minutes from Lake McClure and Bass lake, and 20 minutes from the Briceburg Merced River recreation area where visitors can swim, raft, float and pan for gold in summer months.

Mariposa is beautiful in every season as nature changes her outfits and colors. During the summer, the weather is dry and hot. Fall and spring are wonderfully mild, with daytime temps in the 70s and 80s, and nighttime temps falling into the 50s. Rain is a likely event. Every winter, we typically receive several inches of snow on several occasions, which melts away within a day or so.

Hi and very nice to meet you! My husband Jon and I are looking forward to welcoming you to our river houses in the woods and doing everything we can to make your stay as comfortable, easy and efficient as possible. We know how precious vacation time is and we want to help you make the most of it–through both our physical spaces and the concierge-level of service we strive to provide. I grew up in England, and moved to California for art school in my early twenties, having spent time on the east coast first. I’m now in marketing. Jon is a third-generation Californian and runs a design-build business. When we’re not working, we enjoy traveling, both around the States and internationally. When traveling, we use AirBnB as much as we can. We also love being out in nature and get away to camp and backpack frequently. We divide our time between the San Francisco bay area and Mariposa. Yosemite is one of our favorite places in the world and we’re passionate about sharing our knowledge, appreciation and love for the park and surrounding areas. Our motto? Work hard, play hard. We’re thoughtful about our home environments and setting them up well. The houses are in a beautiful setting that’s secluded and quiet and provides everything you need for a relaxing vacation. Some of our most cherished times have been spent at both properties–from gatherings with friends and family, to quiet, romantic weekends, with just the two of us. Please don’t hesitate to message me at any time if you have any questions. We look forward to having the pleasure of meeting you and helping you enjoy your time in Mariposa and Yosemite as much as we do!
