About this listing
A fabulous serviced apartment in the beautiful 4-season resort town of Bethel.
Cathedral ceilings, 4 spacious rooms comfortably sleeping 7. Full kitchen, but breakfast is included and you're 50 yards from TWO New York Times recommended restaurants!
A self-contained apartment located in gorgeous Bethel Maine, adjacent to the Sudbury Inn. There are four bedrooms: one with a king bed, two with 2 twins, one with a single. Cots for infants can be provided on request.
Two full bathrooms, a full kitchen, dining room, and a living area with a cathedral ceiling and a large field-stone fireplace for cool and cozy evenings.
In winter? Snowboarding and downhill skiing 6 miles away (via free shuttle bus 50 yards from the front door if you prefer not to drive) to the epic Sunday River resort or family-friendly Mt Abram. Plus cross-country skiing and snow shoeing, snowmobile trails, dog sledding and even ice fishing.
The property is located adjacent to the Sudbury Inn, which I am obligated to mention as I am one of the owners! This was recently recommended in the New York Times as "where to eat" in Bethel, and offers a French-style bistro, a classic New England dining room and the basement Suds pub which is open 7 days a week. Suds hosts live music three nights a week, has award-winning pub food and 29 draft beers on tap showcasing the best of New England's craft breweries.
And summer? Bethel is located about 200 yards from the Androscoggin River which is broad and relatively slow moving and is ideal for kayaking or just floating along. Canoes, tubes and kayaks can be rented locally. The stretch 20 miles either side of Bethel is really pretty as you float through Maine's Western Mountains. There are also a couple of excellent river swimming holes nearby, and if you want to go further afield for more fast-water adventures there are a couple of local outfits who can sort that out for you.
We are also surrounded by dry-land pursuits: road and mountain biking (again there are hire facilities), excellent hiking (the Appalachian Trail passes us about 20 miles away), climbing and two golf courses; one is right in town and the other, the spectacularly-located Sunday River golf course, six miles up the road.
Cho Sun, a Korean and Japanese restaurant also featured in the New York Times, is right next door and the property is a short walking distance to Bethel's other fabulous restaurants and businesses.
If you are also looking for a coastal experience, check out our other listing a stone's throw from the beach in Prout's Neck, just 7 miles from the foodie heaven of Portland, Maine.
The whole apartment is yours. Breakfast is included, and is served at the adjacent Sudbury Inn.
Check in is at the front desk of The Sudbury Inn, located at 151 Main Street.
Interaction with Guests
We can interact with you as much or as little as you like. Ali and Steve are located locally pretty much all the time, and there are Sudbury Inn staff available from approx. 6.45 am 'til late night seven days a week.
Bethel is a cool town year round with a great vibe. The property itself is located centrally in town, in walking distance to plenty of bars, restaurants and shopping.
If you love skiing/snowboarding, cycling, motor bikes, or anything from antiquing to fishing or floating down a river, this could be the place for you.
Bethel is located at the intersection of routes 26 and 2 in the Western mountains of Maine. Driving time from Portland airport is approx. 90 minutes, Boston about 3 hours. We are happy to recommend local firms if you need an airport pick-up (or just a trip to the Oxford casino!).
Off street parking is available directly at the front door. In winter, a free shuttle bus runs from 50 yards up the street directly from us to Sunday River.
Other Things to Note
There is a deck on the property looking towards Grafton Notch.
Bed linens and towels are included and can be laundered on request: there is no washer or drier in the apartment, but there is a laundromat just 100 yards down the road.
We currently don't have internet access in the building, but there is complimentary wi-fi in the Sudbury Inn right next door.
Well-behaved pets are more than welcome. Please, per Maine State law, no smoking.
Nice place, great location. We all absolutely loved the fireplace and the common space in the living room where everyone can hang out. Ample parking. The folks at the Sudbury Inn are very nice and the kitchen is great there even though quite pricey. Ali is very easy to work with, great communication. We came to Bethel for a skiing weekend and it turned out to be (almost/one of) the coldest weekend to date. The only issue with the house turned out to be related to this abnormal cold as one of the bedrooms was very chilly and one of the bathrooms was unusable for the same reason. However, please note that the temperatures we had a pleasure to experience are not something that happens every day or every year. With that said, I would totally come stay at Ali's place again and can recommend this to all.
Thank you very much!
