Modern Davis Square Family Home

House - Private room · Cottage Avenue, Somerville, MA 02144, United States

Centrally located, convenient access to everything and contemporary appointments make for a quiet, comfortable stay in the Davis Square neighborhood of Somerville. Have breakfast, put on your walking shoes and get out and explore!

The Space

This private room is in an apartment belonging to a 3-family home that is owner/family occupied. The room, which is on the second floor, has a full sized bed with independent A/C and light blocking blinds. There are two bathrooms (one for your exclusive use, one shared), laundry and, upon request, use of kitchen. Internet access is included. There is also a closet and small iPod/iPhone-ready radio in the room and access to iron and ironing board upon request.

Sheets, bath towels, hand towels, soaps and shampoos are all provided, so you can lighten your travel load by excluding those items. Guests have access to any part of the home that you see in the pictures.

Breakfast is included, as well as coffee/tea; you should make your ideal breakfast known at time of booking so I can have it ready.

Gay Friendly.

1. Do you have or allow pets?
No to both.

2. Do you have parking?
No and on-street is "Resident Only." There are other services online that you can find parking (if you REALLY need a car), otherwise this is Boston and driving is highly discouraged. There are inexpensive garages at Alewife station on the Red Line too.

3. Can I check-in really late or really early?
I would really prefer that check-ins happen before 11pm. If it's a weekend I might be more flexible, but I work too!

The room now has a TV (not pictured) and a white noise machine for those who need it. I've also added a chest of drawers.

Guest Access

The generally rule is: if it's in the pictures, you have access to it. I spend much of my time in the kitchen, working remotely.

Interaction with Guests

Generally, I only see guests in the morning before they head out. I'm usually onsite or next door, depending on the day of the week. I try not to get in anyone's way.

The Neighborhood

Within walking distance (1 block) are all the shops, restaurants, bars and coffee houses that Davis Square has to offer.

There are many restaurants that feature locally sourced foods and alcohol. Somerville is home to our own beer label called "Slumbrew," which is quite good!

If weather permits, I would advice people to walk around and explore. Davis Square is quite vibrant every evening.

Getting around

The location is ideal for car-free visitors to the area. Public transportation in the form of subway (The T, stop DAVIS on the Red Line) and several bus lines and public bike rentals, is steps away. Zipcar is also close by should you need a car.

Other Things to Note

My home is practically in the center of Davis Square and much closer to the Red Line (subway) than is shown on the map. The mattress is memory foam style and medium firmness. All linens are washed in hot water between guest arrivals.

For those new to Airbnb, it's customary to introduce yourself and state your reason for visiting when you are booking. Also, I go to great lengths to assure the accuracy of both my profile and my listing and I ask that you have a complete profile, with a picture, before attempting to book. Thanks!

  • We can highly recommend staying with Frank. His beautiful home is modern, well equipped and nicely decorated. Everything is superclean. Frank had lots of suggestions where we could eat and what would be nice to do during our stay. He had thought of everything, even had an extra toothbrush for guests who would forget to bring their own. Our bed had the most comfortable (new!) mattress and Frank made sure we had a tasty breakfast every morning. Thus, in one sentence, Frank is the perfect B&B host.

  • I stayed at Frank's house for four nights. I immediately felt very welcome and like at home. Frank has always been very hospitable and always willing to friendly chat (he speaks Italian very very well) and give recommendations for anything I would need. The room was cozy and clean. So was the dedicated and well accessorized bathroom. The house is located in a quiet street but is very close to Davis square which (email hidden)ly location with a good variety of nice restaurants and shops. I had an excellent stay and would recommend staying at Frank's house anytime.

  • We stayed with Frank for 3 nights and have only nice things to say. His home is clean and beautiful and the bed was very comfortable. Frank was very accommodating during check-in and check-out and let us leave our bags there for a few extra hours. His location is ideal since it's so close to the square and subway, and Frank himself is kind and hospitable. We would definitely stay here again.

  • The place was great, very clean and modern as well as in a nice neighborhood just outside of the city but really close to the T (even better if you are going to Tufts or Harvard). Frank was really accommodating, making access super easy and even cooking us breakfast every morning!

  • We stayed at Frank's home for 9 nights and enjoyed it. Location: Very convenient to the Red T Line -about 15 minutes to central Boston. The house is on a very quiet street, about 7 minutes walk to Davis Square subway station in Somerville, and 10 minutes walk from the Porter Square station in Cambridge in an attractive suburban working neighborhood, with lots of good restaurants. Although street parking is reserved for residents, we explored some sites offering nearby extra parking spaces at people's homes, or a "guest certificate" for a few days, and were glad to use one for four day trips out of Boston. House: Modernized inside and lovely looking with both living room and kitchen furnished with modern appliances and furniture. Bedroom: Located on the 2nd floor, with a double bed and a recently installed TV with Basic Cable. There are two full modern bathrooms fully stocked and inviting, a small private one for guests, the other shared. While Frank was away for the first four days, his aunt took good care of us. Breakfast foods were lavish with many choices of cereals, milk, jams, bagels and a large container of fresh fruit salad which lasted for days. Frank's aunt noticed that we did not eat cereal for breakfast, and bought us some English muffins and a baguette! Frank offered to supplement the regular coffee with espresso, and to wash our clothes, since we were staying so many nights living out of a small carry-on each. Frank was also helpful with some iPad problems we were experiencing, since he works with computers and software. We were glad we stayed in Frank's apartment.

  • The house is clean and very confortable with access to a confortable living room and kitchen. Our room was well furnished and we had acces to a dedicated bathroom. The welcome was perfect thus we had a very nice stay. Thanks a lot

  • Great to be back in Boston. Great place and location. Easy communication with host.

  • My wife, Naomi, and I, stayed with Frank for a couple of nights to attend a friend's wedding. The guest room and bathroom were both immaculate and super clean. Although Boston was going through a heat wave, the A/C worked perfectly, and the bed was really comfortable, so we slept great. The house is a very short walk to the red line (T) subway, so we were able to get to downtown Boston very quickly.

Most importantly, Frank is an absolute gem. He is a considerate, intelligent and friendly person. He went out of his way to recommend fun things to do in Boston, cooked us breakfast and had fresh brownies waiting for us in our room when we arrived. We had great conversations about history, travel and urban planning.

We would definitely stay here again. The whole experience was a perfect 10!

  • I stayed in a cozy room in Frank's apartment for 11 nights this June and I felt absolutely at home!
Frank is a very caring, hospitable and warm person, ready to help with any issue that might occur. His house is comfy, with all necessary appliances, clean and this makes you want to keep it tidy and care for it as if it was your own.
I fell in love with Somerville and got used to it very quickly. Nice people, quite, green streets with cute American type houses, Davis Square and the T are very close to Frank's house and lots of homey cafes, restaurants and good food shops along the way.
His family next door (his aunt and his mother) are excellent hosts, open-minded and willing to greet each guest like a family member.
I am going to miss all of them and hope to come back again.
I highly recommend Frank's apartment to anyone coming to Boston (on business or for pleasure) and looking for a great place to stay.

My aunt (Pam) and I ventured into Airbnb a few months back and we've been having a fun doing it! She handles the guests for her apartment and I handle the guests in mine (obviously). Our apartments are completely different in style, but we both enjoy take care of our guests' needs. I'm one of the rare Somerville natives who has called Davis Square home long before it was even remotely hip to do so. While my aunt moved here almost 2 years ago from Melrose. My days are mostly spent attached to my laptop, working from home so I"ll be available for any advice or directions and she's retired and is comes and goes during the day. I've traveled (and continue to travel) quite a bit. I'm often in London and Italy but I've been to Guatemala, Poland, Czech Republic (Prague), Spain (Malaga), Costa Rica, Iceland, Ireland (Dublin), Australia, Mexico (Los Cabos) and France (Paris). I speak Italian fairly fluently and that comes from frequent trips and studies. I'd say my Spanish is intermediate, but I find language studies fascinating overall. I'm somewhat of a foodie and I do enjoy trying different beers. Boston has a very strong local beer culture that allows you to explore what good beer can really taste like! People looking for national brands will be disappointed (and possibly taunted by bartenders if you ask for a Bud). Come check out our little corner of the world!
