The Space

Nestled above San Miguel, minutes from the Jardin, are three amazing "Jewels". Three very different casitas staggered on the hillside offering privacy and a town view from inside the casita, no walking up a spiral staircase with a tray of Margaritas to go and sit on an exposed rooftop. Within this Casita, Ruby, you can view the town from your BED or from the sunken BATHTUB/SHOWER. You can sit in the living room area and watch the evening fireworks or the frolicking birds are at eye level in the afternoons from the "Jewels". These are Boutique Casitas and each has its own style, Ruby is woodsy and has the most amazing terrace, it's for people who love the "al fresco" lifestyle, love to sit and read, and dine outdoors under the stars. The glassed in, sunken tub bathroom is a luxury soak and soothes the aching muscles from sightseeing all day. These casitas are for the visitor that wants quiet serenity, a refuge from the hustle and bustle that can be San Miguel, when they return home. Our Casitas have all the modern amenities of home:
40 in. flatscreen Samsung Smart Televisions with tons of Apps as well as traditional Mexican cable
Complementary Netflix Acct for your enjoyment
DVD player
Local phone line
Free USA line to phone anywhere in the US.

Location: In Centro, above but just less than 4 blocks away away from the Jardin and Juarez Park, across the street from the home built by Actor/Comedian "Cantiflas" and next door to famed Mexican Tenor Pedro Vargas' estate.

  • The most perfect home in San Miguel. Bebe had everything you could ever need or want in Casita Ruby. Every question we had was answered in the guidebook to the home and Bebe provided the most wonderful restaurant recommendations and other fun things to do in San Miguel. Very close to the center of town, we walked everywhere but buses and taxis were always available and very inexpensive. Thanks for thinking of everything, Bebe. Hope to visit again soon.

  • Perfect. Perfect. Perfect. The apartment is beautifully decorated and has everything you need (comfortable bed and furniture, plenty of linens, cable TV, wet bar and most important: a fantastic view. Communication with Bebe was easy, and although we didn't meet her, her staff were there waiting when we arrived with tips on where to go and what to do. Don't be swayed by the apt's location on the map -- we thought it might be a bit far out with a demanding hike to/from, but its actually very close to centro and great restaurants. We walked everywhere. Also, given the various church bells that ding-dong throughout the day, its much quieter than centro. Looking forward to visiting Casita Ruby and this part of Mexico again.

  • We loved our stay here! The view couldn't have been better, and was even more magical with the jacaranda tree blooming above our heads. I enjoyed hearing the church bells and concerts from the city below. There was no street noise in the room, which was nice. The room was cute, well cared for, and embodied the colorful and artistic spirit of San Miguel. The coffee bar was sufficient for making some toaster oven tostadas, cutting up fruit, and making coffee for breakfast or a snack.

I was happy that the cleaner came three times in the week we were there to refill water and tidy up.

I personally enjoyed the hike up to the casita a couple of times a day because it meant that I didn't have to build exercise into our stay, but then again, we are from Colorado and walk up mountains for fun on a regular basis, so take that as you will. I thought the view was totally worth it. I would wholeheartedly recommend this casita!

  • Casita Ruby looked exactly as it did in photographs. The view from the Casita and especially the terrace was spectacular. It was near Centro, we walked multiple times, but away from the noise of the Centro area.

The place was clean, neat and beautiful. We would not hesitate to stay there again.

  • Casita Ruby is a great place to stay. It was very clean, comfortable, VERY San Miguel, and well stocked. It's not right in the flats of the Centro, so you will want to take cheap and convenient cabs ($3) or buses ($0.60) back up the hill to the casita, but the panoramic view is spectacular. Buses stop right near by. The walk down to the Centro is a little steep, but quite manageable. We did it many times, and it's very scenic. Don't miss La Sirena Gorda restaurant/cantina just down the hill. One tip, bring a wifi extender if you have one (like Almond) if you plan to do a lot of surfing/emailing from the terrace. The signal is very strong in the room, but weakens out on the terrace. Love the free Netflix. In all, we were very happy choosing Casita Ruby, and Elizabeth provided great communication leading up to the trip. She also provided a very helpful book with many tips and recommendations. Don't miss Tacos Don Felix or La Palapa if you like real authentic Mexican food. Both were recommendations from our host Elizabeth. Buen Viaje!

  • Amazing casita in an great town!
Everything about this place is wonderful, the terrace, the interior, the bathroom and of course the view. Probably the best view in the city ...which means that you have somewhat of a steep climb home at night. Taxi is dead cheap though. Enjoyed our stay so much that we stayed in many nights. Great strolls around this beautiful town. If going to SMA and don't mind walking a little (i.e. healthy enough for a walk up the hill) this is the place to stay.
Didn't have the chance to meet the hosts, but they were fast to reply online as soon as we sent an email and gave many good recommendations. Cleaning staff were very polite.

  • Casita Ruby met all my expectations and more! We travelled throughout Mexico during the month of January and Casita Ruby was by far our favorite abode. Elizabeth/Bebe our host was wonderful and has thought of everything her guest could need.

    Favorite things...
    *Terrace with an amazing view
*Writing Area with a beautiful view.
*Separate sitting area with a swivel TV - so you could watch it from your bed as well.
    * Accessibility of transportation.

Please note that the casita is on a steep hill but there are tons of buses and taxis that pass by all the time.

Loved it so much, I will definitely be returning again!

P.S. Bebe - on my way back to the USA, I ran into a lady who happened to be the mother of a well known american designer and had been living in SMA for the past 2 months. We compared our casitas while waiting to board the plane.

  • I would recommend this place in a heartbeat! The location is easy to get to, wonderful shops, restaurants, spas, activities, cooking classes, are just a minute walk from the apartment! The view has to be the best in the city! The balcony is spacious with plenty of seating to sit, relax and enjoy the can't be beat view. The bathroom was by far our favorite part! A HUGE sunken tub and shower with floor to ceiling windows overlooking the city and the valley. We both took turns spending hours in the bathtub just reading and enjoying the view. The housekeeper was incredibly kind and cleaned and refilled our water on a regular basis. The kitchenette was kindly stocked with coffee, tea, water, dishes and a mini-fridge. Also, the hosts are amazing. They sent us ample information before we arrived which really helped make our stay more pleasurable. They even called when we arrived and the day we left to make sure everything was to our liking. Oh, and the internet is very fast which is great because my husband works remotely. Look no further and please stay here!! You will not regret your decision!!

  • Drop dead gorgeous view. All concerns addressed promptly. Cost $$$$$$, but remember you are paying for the view. No kitchen a downsize. Also, in order to have such a lovely drop dead gorgeous view it's up the mountain, and a steep climb. Taxis are only 30 pesos and the bus 5 pesos. I think it would have been fun to be nearer to Centro and have the ability to walk everywhere, but much nosier in Centro. All in all, I was comfortable (bed and mattress perfect) , no kitchen, no problem as I'm not much of a cook. San Miguel's weather lovely in July and August. Yes some rains, but then it clears up and is lovely again. Bebe, (owner /manager) very accommodating and respectful of your concerns.
